Grippy Tannins is hands down our favorite wine bar in Portland. Don’t let the understated exterior or the fancy neighborhood fool you — this spot is anything but pretentious. And trust me, I’m far from a wine expert! We’ve visited a handful of times over the past year (not as often as I’d like, due to their tricky hours), and every time, we leave absolutely thrilled with the experience. Lindsey is the heart and soul of the place. She is knowledgeable, approachable, and an absolute wine wizard. I’m always amazed at how she balances selling bottles, offering expert advice, and managing the lounge like a pro. She’s incredible. What really sets Grippy Tannins apart for me— aside from the chic, cozy vibe inside — is the unique setup. You can pick any bottle from the shop to enjoy in the lounge for just a $10 corkage fee. Browsing their shelves, packed with hundreds of options, is half the fun. We always end up with something amazing, and to this day, we’ve never had a disappointing wine. Bonus: they have plenty of great bottles under $30!

I had such a wonderful experience here! The wine selection is fantastic, with a wide range of tastings that let you really explore different styles and flavors. It’s clear that a lot of thought goes into curating the options, and Lindsey was very knowledgeable without being overwhelming. I especially appreciated that they also offer a non-alcoholic option—such a thoughtful touch for anyone who doesn’t drink but still wants to be part of the tasting experience. A welcoming spot whether you’re a wine enthusiast or just curious to try something new!

Loved this place. Lyndsey the owner is friendly, flexible, efficient, and tells great "wine stories" (terroir, producer, grapes). She is super knowledgeable and passionate. Everything is from small producers, generally low intervention. She has the classics in place, but if you want a slightly more funky natural wine or pet nat then you're also in good hands.

We had an absolutely incredible experience at Grippy Tannins, and it was all thanks to Lindsey. From the moment we walked in, she made us feel completely at ease. As novices to wine, we were a little intimidated, but Lindsey turned it into nothing but fun while also showcasing the fine art behind every pour. Her knowledge, enthusiasm, and warmth created a state-of-the-art experience—educational without pressure, engaging without being overwhelming. She guided us through different selections, making each sip feel special. If you’re looking for an unforgettable wine experience, Lindsey is the one to...
