Portland Gear - Water-Resistant Bags and Apparel — Local services in Portland

I do not normally leave reviews as much as I should, but I love Portland Gear so much that I have to share. Our families have been buying and wearing Portland gear for years and we absolutely love the styles, comfort, and durability of their products. Both myself and my husband have several Portland gear items that we wear on a consistent basis and always receive compliments. My favorite is my throwback 90’s “P” crewneck! Portland gear is not only a trendy and cool place to buy products, but they are very involved with the community and do not sell products on big sites such as Amazon. They truly represent the best aspects of our city.

Most importantly though, in my experience they are 100% customer support and customer relations driven. Recently, I had a question on an order where I did not receive a discount code I thought I could use. My email was responded to and resolved within 12 hours by the head of operations, Eli. He was not only helpful, but also friendly and warm in his communications. This is the only “issue” (if you can even call it that) I’ve ever had with an order, and it was responded to immediately and fixed. I could not ask or imagine that level of support from a box store or corporation, or even some smaller businesses especially during the holiday season. (Purchased backpack 3-2024) Portland Gear backpacks are perfect for traveling. It took me a long time to be willing to travel with a backpack. It just isn’t the most stylish look no matter how nice the pack. But I am so happy I finally switched from a shoulder bag to a Portland Gear backpack.

The pack is surprisingly comfortable to carry even when heavy. There are enough pockets but not too many. There is a hidden pocket for you to have easy access to valuables without anyone else knowing it is there.

I like that there are (or were) only two models; one smaller and one larger. Many colors to choose from.

The larger size is great as an airplane carry-on. It stores slippers, a pillow, meds, snacks, an extra layer, toiletries, etc.

It is easy to haul through airports, and can be carried on your back or on top of a carryon spinner suitcase.

With a backpack and a carry on size suitcase it is easy to travel on public transport.

I bought mine last year. It has traveled with me on trips to Europe and Asia. I wore it hiking along the Amalfi coast.

It is ‘water repellent’ but NOT waterproof. On a rainy day put your gear in a plastic bag inside the pack and expect to need some time to get the bag dry again later. (This may have changed in more recent models)

This company has products for travelers that are game changers. First recommended to me by a luxury travel agent last fall- I ordered the Cascade Standard in Tan- it was fabulous- fits under the seat yet has tons of room. They thought of everything- springs opens at the top like a medical bag allowing you to see everything below - to that end they made a light liner color providing contrast to the inside. It has a padded section for a lap top and is waterproof. Slides over the handle of luggage and has a loop outside for hanging a jacket. It has two external holders for water bottles. I have since purchased more for friends and family - in light blue, black & green. I liked this so much I ordered the cascade kit and the pouch. Those add ons fit seamlessly into the standard cascade backpack and I am good to go. I was searching for a way to travel internationally without checking a bag and my international carryon pierce pairs perfectly with their products. Shout out to their team esp.
