⭐☆☆☆☆ “$250 for a Hotel Room or an Elaborate Social Experiment?”
Ah, the Crowne Plaza Portland — where you too can experience the thrill of paying $250 (after taxes and parking) a night for a masterclass in disappointment. Also if you book a room for 2 nights 3 months in advance they will not honor those prices. I was charged 30 dollars more for the seconds night.
First, let’s talk parking. Sure, you pay for it, but like a bad dating app, there’s no guarantee you’ll actually get a spot. It’s more of a “parking lottery” situation — fun for people who enjoy gambling, less fun for people who have luggage and bad knees.
Coffee? Oh, they’ve really pulled out all the stops here. Two. Keurig. Pods. That’s it. No more. No less. Two tiny caffeine rations to sustain you through your $250-a-night journey. Hope you like rationing your happiness.
Ordered DoorDash? Adorable. Instead of the luxury of having it brought to your room, you’ll get a phone call to come down to the lobby and get it yourself. Which is especially fun if, like me, you’ve already removed your bra and entered “do not disturb” mode. Bellhop? Never heard of her.
The mattress? Imagine that scene from Nightmare on Elm Street where the bed swallows Johnny Depp — but without the charm. You don’t “sleep” here so much as you fold into the center like a human taco.
The AC is loud enough to qualify as a white noise concert, and you can’t turn it off. Or maybe you can and I’m just too dumb, but either way — enjoy the gentle roar of industrial air for the rest of the night.
Windows? Thin as a conspiracy theorist’s alibi. On the 10th floor, I could hear freeway traffic so clearly I half expected to be asked for my ticket at the toll booth. And the metal frame will burn you
Oh, and they have a shuttle — but will it take you to the Moda Center? Absolutely not. Why would it? That would make sense. You can go… somewhere. Just not where you want to go.
And if you happen to be a high-roller with a $100 bill, good luck. They can’t break it. Apparently, this is a “small bills only” kind of establishment. Maybe they think the mattress will break it for you when you fall into its abyss.
Now — to be fair — the view was stunning. Almost enough to distract you from everything else. Almost.
In conclusion: I’ve stayed in a Utah truck stop motel that felt more like a luxury resort. At least there, the coffee was free-flowing, the shuttle took me where I actually wanted to go, and someone could make change for 100$. They have zero accommodations for what you pay. Massive disappointment.
To reply to the reply. The front office explicitly said they cant break the money when we werre buying items from the canteen. The parking situation should be given priority to people that have rooms there, and cars absolutely werent restricted to the MODA center. We had to get a taxi because your shuttle doesnt accommodate people with disabilities. The matress was not soft it was broken down and needs to be replaced. For the cost, i shouldnt have to "insist" someone brings an order up to me. It should be common courtesy. Your help desk refuses to do anything but take money. You also charge 3 dollars and 20% to eat in the rooms which...
Read moreI stayed here during my association's annual conference, being held at the Oregon Convention Center, so as a senior staff member, I was given a one-bedroom suite. ||The location is an easy 10-minute walk to the OCC, as long as it's not raining. Unfortunately, it poured down rain most mornings, so I often took a Lyft or Uber that was fairly inexpensive and arrived quickly.||Check-in was easy, staff were nice, and the one-bedroom suite was very roomy and spacious and comfortable. Each one is a bit different (I saw a few other colleagues' suites). Mine opened into a small eat-in kitchen, with a square table, four chairs, completely set for dinner, and then all of the kitchen along one wall, with a sink, microwave, larger (not full size and not mini)fridge, lots of kitchenware, etc. This was perfect for me because I eat a specific way and like to order my own food through UberEats and then prepare and bring it with me for the day at the convention center. (Some of the other kitchens have a bar with barstools instead of a table, which I liked better, but not a big deal.)||Past the kitchen is the living room, with two sofas, a coffee table, a large screen TV, and a desk/chair area with plenty of room to work. As a communications director, I used this quite a lot to work in my room. ||A door near the work area leads into the one bedroom/bathroom suite, which is huge. There is a full-size closet with two sliding doors that also have full length mirrors on them. A king size bed features fluffy pillows and comforter. A big dresser also holds a big-screen TV. There are two bedside tables, an armchair in the corner near the entrance to the bathroom, and plenty of windows.||The bathroom features a huge shower, towels on a warming bar, a big vanity/counter with plenty of space for your stuff, makeup mirror, hairdryer, etc. ||This was a very comfie room to spend a week in and I really enjoyed it. For me, it was a perfect set up.||There was a small bar downstairs and a sitting area with a fireplace. I did have a drink with colleagues there one evening, and it was nice. ||The area around the hotel is decent (there's a senior living apartment building across the street), so walking through the neighborhood to the main street that takes you to the OCC is safe. The sidewalks are a bit broken up. ||But once you are on the main street and walking to the OCC, the closer you get to that area, the situation deteriorates. There is a large population of homeless people, most of whom appear to suffer from mental illness, and they can be aggressive, so be very careful and don't interact with them. In fact, if you are a woman walking alone, regardless of time of day, I would recommend taking a cab or rideshare to and from the OCC. ||However, I did not see any homeless individuals around the hotel. The grounds are immaculate and there is security, so no need to worry about that at...
Read moreBooked two rooms for the blink182 concert @ the Moda Center on July 13th, 2024.
For those who read these reviews, this Motel is only a few minutes WALK over to the Moda Center. No driving or parking (fees) are necessary. Hence our decision to stay here.
Previous reviews complained of homeless people around the motel, we saw a pop-up homeless short term stay facility adjacent this property (you can see the approximate 30-count small units from your higher floor southwest viewpoint). We had no problems whatsoever with any homeless or 'wandering lunatics' for our two night stay. The motel is in the Loyd District. There is city Bus service only a street or two away. Plenty of shops, bars, restaurants, a 7-11 convenience store, etc. ALL within very close distance to the Motel. We felt safe everywhere we ventured. A large Dutch Brothers coffee shop is nearby.
Also, a Food Truck corral and brewery (in East Portland) is within about a 15-20 minute walk over to from this location.
Total stay for two rooms, for two nights was approximately $850USD, four adults, tenth floor. So, not cheap, but within market range values, and convenience always has a price. Parking is $27/night per vehicle. Get your pass at the front desk, charge it to your room if so desired. The restaurant, bar, and other facilities on site are all good. They have a 24/7 snack bar immediately adjacent the front desk (you can walk over to the 7-11 if desired too). The swimming pool and spa (both indoors) were also nice and clean, and slightly heated. Our rooms were clean, fresh, smelled nice, and bathroom and other amenities were also good. No bed bugs here. One room would only cool to about 71F no matter what was done with the in room thermostat and amount of time (we left it on full blast the entire stay, but no luck dropping that room temperature); the other room would chill as much as guests would want (so...there may be some issues with duct venting prevalent as I've read additional reviews that stated the same issue). Overall, not an excellent five star experience (Motel rating is only at 4 stars), but it was a pleasant stay and we would return and stay here again. If you 'join' IHG Rewards, you will get their best rate and can pre-complete your room and stay preferences; so I'd go for it (if you have time to do so). "We'll be back!"...like Arnold :)
Also, all our staff were accommodating, helpful, and courteous (you get back what you give folks). I recommend staying here for any Moda Center or Convention Center (also walking distance)...
