Love the idea of this place but not the execution.
They made an effort to turn this jail into a lovely hotel. In the process they missed the opportunity to keep a lot of the history and details. There’s no story or pictures or anything that would make you understand the culture context aside from a few old bar doors in the hallway.
In addition, it was as if they A-L-M-O-S-T got to the higher end look that they were going for. But a lot of it was tacky. Poorly printed taped up signs in the bathroom and sink area stated things such as, “Our bathtubs have not been functioning bathtubs since 2019. You can only use the shower function. WE DO NOT ADVERTISE THAT WE OFFER BATHTUBS IN ANY OF OUR BOOKING SITES.” (The bathtub IS front and center in the room.) The ice machine didn’t have ice (which usually I wouldn’t care but I was post surgery and needed it). The Keurig coffee maker was shared and in the hallway - also not connected to water. So, want your morning coffee… hobble out to the hallway and cart your water. Plus the Clink (yes a separate entity but and attraction we were looking forward to) was closed for a private party. It was as if someone had the right idea but couldn’t quit execute. Meh.
But, the room was clean, the bed was comfy, the location is fantastic and, again, I liked the idea. So, I could have looked beyond some of the miss-steps if it wasn’t for one thing… the utter, complete and absolute lack of service. Day of arrival we received a voicemail notifying us that we would be billed and receive a text for how to check in. Great. Except there was no text. I was provided a call back number which was never answered. We arrived at the desk and it was unmanned - ALL DAY. I attempted to call the number again and we could hear the desk phone ringing. We waited 30 minutes before another guest walked in who awkwardly showed us where the keys were located. As we were never provided a door code and, therefore, come after hours we were locked out. There’s an emergency number listed - but they make clear is is only for emergencies only and seemed rather annoyed when it was called. There is NO ONE to contact if you have a question or simple concern. In the service industry that seems completely unprofessional. No one ever once returned our call, followed up or apologized. It was absolutely ridiculous.
I will say, I was completely charmed by Pueblo in a way I never expected. There’s a lot of character in this town. I will certainly be back to visit but I will not stay at the Station.
As I can't figure out how to respond to the owner's statement, here's my update.
I made no false statement that would damage a reputation. Rather I stated my opinion (which is what a review is) and what had accurately occurred.
Check in is at 3:00. No one was present at the desk at any time that we saw. Period. No one answered the phone at any time. No one returned my phone call at any time. I did indeed see a housekeeper in the morning as we were leaving - which was not helpful with any of our concerns.
As for your statement that the Clink and Station are a single entity: How would I know that? Especially when there’s a sign for a private party? Was I supposed to go to them two hours later with a concern? Perhaps a sign at the front desk could have explained that. That would have been exceedingly helpful.
When I called, I needed the door code. You gave me that after I explained the situation. Did I need anything else specifically at that moment. Nope. We got it figured out thanks to other guests. But an apology would have been nice - or an I’ll look into it - or an anything else I can help you with? That would have been kind. (Still would be.)
I did see an electric kettle. I did not see a pour over system or any coffee in the room. Could I have missed it - yep. I used the Keurig which I clearly saw.
Yes. As I stated, you have signs in two places explaining the bathtub situation. I just...
Read moreRooms: 5 Service: via text, responsive, no front desk attendant Location: historic downtown Pueblo on the Riverwalk, great location The Hotel: Reimagined old police station/jail. The rooms, or “cells” are themed to a jail with cheeky do not disturb hangers, and boutique style. The beds and pillows are super comfy. Personal robes.
Amenities: none. The Clink is advertised as a trendy bar but it was not open when we stayed there (Friday-Sunday). But the Brewhaus is downstairs and is fabulous. Try the fig and goat cheese burger–you won’t be sorry!
Take a stroll on the Riverwalk and you can easily walk to restaurants like B Street Cafe and Fuel and Iron (10-15 minutes). Free parking is across the street.
These are not cons but know this: it’s an old building…a jail. Hot water takes awhile to heat up, the temperature in the room is fixed at 72* F, there are no snack machines, no pool, the ice maker is a portable ice marker in the hall that will never make enough ice for 5 rooms, and we stayed in cell 5 so we could hear the music at the bar, however, it turned off by 10:30 every night. It wasn’t an issue.
Pros: This boutique hotel is nice. It’s unique. Right across the street from the music hall, easy access to cool and unique places to see and eat. Downtown Pueblo is clean and feels safe to walk at night. The Riverwalk hosts movies nights...
Read moreThe hotel is a really fun boutique hotel. The staff were super friendly and helpful. My husband and I loved the Clink. I loved the room and decor. The bedding, towels, and bath/shower products were luxurious. Although, when it came to the actual functionality of this as a comfortable hotel, it was a bit of a different story. The restaurant downstairs was having a concert until 11pm, which we were made aware of. We were told the back rooms can be very noisy but it is better in the front rooms. Plus my husband and I were not planning on going to sleep very early, so we thought it would be ok. Well, the residual noise from the restaurant/concert went on until after 2:00am (I guess understandable), but noise from the restaurant below and hallway started again at 6:00am with the bright light beaming in from outside. Needless to say we did not get the relaxing night/morning we were hoping for. I totally agree with Ron Thomas, the rooms need some sound blocking features or at the very least ear plugs and dark out curtains. I also agree with an earlier post about the bath tub. It is very difficult to get in and out of and the half door makes it a chilly experience at times. We would, and probably will stay again. This time, with these things in mind and...
