I AM EXTREMELY ANGRY!!
What started out as a potentially good idea . . . a walk along the Pueblo Riverwalk on a beautiful Wednesday morning in Pueblo, turned out to be a most disturbing experience –
I parked at the Lake Elizabeth lot. My 96 y.o. mom and I walked around the lake then headed East along the South shore of the riverwalk. When we reached the public restroom facility at the corner of Riverwalk and Union Avenue we found a sign on the door indicating that it was closed.
We decided to continue walking knowing that there’s another restroom facility at the East end of the riverwalk. This facility has a sign indicating that it is closed for the “season”.
By then the need to find a restroom was becoming increasingly urgent –
We started back toward the parking lot along Alan Hamel Ave. When we got to a point across the street from the HARP Authority bldg. I thought, surely, if I explain the situation, they will allow us to use their restroom - NO CHANCE – The second lady I spoke with at the door after I rang the doorbell told me they don’t have a restroom, which I assume was a lie. This lady gave me what sounded like a scripted response about how the public restrooms along the riverwalk had to be closed due to illegal drug use. She had reasons and excuses but no solutions.
I had to leave my mom under a tree across the street from the HARP Authority bldg. while I went to get my vehicle and come back to pick her up.
I’m a Pueblo resident –
We’re constantly hearing about how important it is to attract people to Pueblo. Is this the experience we want to provide for visitors coming to explore Pueblo? Do we want people to return to their hometowns and tell others that there is no public facility to urinate legally along the Pueblo Riverwalk?
Drug use in the riverwalk public restrooms is a problem that should be addressed in whatever way is most effective, including posting a guard at each one if necessary.
The public restrooms at each end of the riverwalk MUST be available any time that the riverwalk is available. The sign on restroom door on the East end indicates closed for the season . . . does the riverwalk have a season or do we want people to enjoy it all year?
Lets get those restrooms open -
No public restrooms along the riverwalk is...

Read moreWould not recommend making a special trip as my wife and I did today... she called twice in advance to verify that the gondolas would be operating today (Thurs, 7/11/24) and was told "Oh yes, they will certainly be operating between 12 & 8, and no reservation would be needed". This is because she wanted to ride them on our 15th anniversary, today, 7/11/24. We arrived and had some lunch, walked around a bit (saw the gondola parked under the bridge) and made our way to the boathouse to book a ride... only to have the two operators/employees tell us that: Nah, the gondolas battery isn't charged, maybe later. It's too windy, come back later. (It was 100°, and barely a breeze) We can't book you, we are ALL going to lunch now, come back later. Hmm, we did call in advance and it IS our anniversary, and nope. No ride for you go away. Thanks for nothing, will never recommend this to anyone... because they really don't want your business anyway. Besides, there is a giant spider web with spider attached to the gondola, which tells you when it may have last...
