Sadly I thought I had booked the Courtyard version that's practically next door which is where I normally stay, but ended up here. I'd still recommend that option vs. this one.
The good...front desk folks were very nice...the shower pressure was also good along with the front lobby and hallways. , although the temp tends to vary. My room was on the 3rd floor and I'm not sure if all the rooms are like that but that one was not worth the price.
The room didn't have very good AC. Thermostat was set at 68 and it felt like 74...by the time morning came around, the AC must've decided to kick in as by then it did feel like 68. While the water pressure in the shower is good, the temp isn't very consistent and after a 5 min shower, I was about ankle deep in water due to the slow drain. There's obviously some plumbing issues as even flushing the toilet is very slow.
My room had 2 queen beds. The one I used was not comfortable at all. Laying on my side, I felt like I was going to roll onto the floor due to how much of an angle it would put me at.
Housekeeping does not do a good job of vacuuming or maybe they never empty their bag or ensure their vacuum actually is sucking, because there was lots of dust/dirt in the corners of the room. The carpet was pretty dated and also looked very warn. The patch job on the wall around the AC unit could've been covered up a little better. There was a pubic hair on the floor of the bathroom that was there when I first checked in, so they obviously don't check over what they clean (if they clean).
I did have an earwig or small caterpillar come out of one of the large bath towels that I used while drying off after a shower. That was a bit surprising...it ran up under the sink in the bathroom, so I guess someone else can say hi to that when they check into the room I was in.
Parking is not free either...I don't recall paying that at the nicer Courtyard version next door. I will safely say that I won't mess up booking the wrong version of this hotel whenever I'm in the area next and highly recommend that one vs. this one.
I did not bring my issues up to anyone. When checking out the front desk person didn't ask how my stay was...if they had, I would've mentioned all this and I'm sure I'd still be charged too much for the stay. I've been to other hotels of this brand in other locations and this was a disappointment...
Read moreWe were trapped at the Detroit airport because of weather. This hotel was offered and being a Marriott rewards member we chose this hotel. The wait for the shuttle wasn't bad and the driver was nice. The hotel was in the middle of a bunch of other hotels with very little options for dining, being -15 degrees outside with 2 small children we didn't have many options for traveling for food. The driver offered to take us to the Bob Evans restaurant down the street. Check in was easy, no upgrade for being a rewards member as I had gotten before at other places, but they said that they had a crib for my baby which I was told would be brought to our room shortly. Waited about an hour for the crib and then decided to go eat lunch at Bob Evans. Shuttle very kindly brought us back from the restaurant shortly after we called the hotel. Still no crib in our room, called down again and they said it would be right up. Baby was getting fussy for a nap, so called again after another 30 minutes and the front desk seemed annoyed about it not being there yet. About 10 minutes later housekeeping showed up and set up the crib. The room was clean and lots of room for us to put the crib a little away from the noise of our toddler playing, so baby took a nap and we relaxed in the room. Dinner time came and we just didn't feel like leaving. We ordered room service. The menu said nothing about kids meals, luckily the woman of the phone mentioned them, so we got the kids chicken tenders, French Onion soup for hubby and Bruschetta for myself. The soup was good, kids meal was very good, though they forgot our drinks (didn't charge us for them), the bruschetta seemed a little old, but didn't taste bad. Delivery was quick and the prices were reasonable for room service. Slept well, the beds were comfortable and I love the big downy comforters at the hotel. We were starving for breakfast, debated between dragging the kids in the cold to Bob Evans or just eat at the hotel. The waiter pushed us to have the breakfast buffet, Breakfast prices were very high! We unfortunately did not look before buying and the was regrettable. The eggs were cold and had been sitting for a while, the yogurt for the fruit had been sitting a while, the sausage and bacon cold as well, french toast was hard as a rock and inedible. We had cereal and milk with a little fruit. Not...
Read moreSkipped this location for 7 years due to issues with previous stay, but updating and adding stars for visible improvements. Having stayed at most if not all Marriotts in Detroit area, I can say that the concierge lounge here is an order of magnitude better than all other Marriotts around Detroit. Forced to normally stay in most expensive Marriott in area(which will remain nameless), it was not available this week so I chose to return to airport Marriott due to favorable corporate rate. Unlike the higher end Detroit Marriott which I suspect uses cheap and tasteless GFS microwave food, airport Marriott food tasted freshly prepared and was very high quality. The huge tv and great cable was awesome, with a decent check in. My only complaint was getting gigged for parking, but I understand due to the proximity to the airport they must control parking access. At least they should consider crediting back for the parking after paid checkout. Bar and restaurant food was fair, with several items delivetwell undercooked. A shrimp dish was close to raw, a gray hamburger was served to me as well as white barely cooked fries.. Bed and pillows also cood compared to other local Marriotts. Recommended location over others in area, even with a few fruit flies in the bar and inexperienced cooks. Concierge lounge was closed unexpectedly for Friday breakfast. .Ice machine broken entire week of my stay. While concierge lounge food was most better than average quality, there were similar problems with undercooked items. Quality issue with white undercooked (but tasty) spinach pies, impossible to chew pure gristle pepper steak, but every dessert was great. I avoided room cleaning entire week due to no in room safe to secure valuables. Front desk refuses to break bills so you can tip attentive lounge attendants. Honorable mention for hustling bartender who was forced to serve undercooked food on 3/4 meals. Favorable 4 star overall rating just because airport Marriott Management pays attention to concierge lounge quality while other Detroit area Marriott concierge lounges are ignored by management and are poor...
