Don't take my word for it. Just look at the other pictures and comments of this hot mess of a hotel from the multitude of the posted reviews and you'll only get a tiny taste of the experience until you compound it exponentially with the unprovoked, abrupt rudeness and incredibly hostile manner of unprofessional behavior you will encounter from its male management (especially towards women) and the unnecessarily stressful conditions they add as a bonus out of their personal cultural biases to make your stay especially memorable in their own terrible way. If the copious amounts of fragrance filled cleaning solutions poured out in an attempt to mask the urine odor that greets you from the disgusting carpeting doesn't immediately deter you upon entering, then maybe the roach infested broken filthy picture frames over the headboards of each individual bed may. If even that fails to impress upon the hardship bearing spartan in you then go check out the bathroom for an extra thrill. Their website is either full of outright lies or false advertising. They state that they offer free breakfast, and are service dog friendly, which are both false. Breakfast which is truly beyond meager, whose beverage choices are milk, coffee with grounds in each cup or hot water. A meal of fake egg and cheese omelets, white toast, one type of some kind of bagel, with your choice of strawberry, peanut butter, cream cheese or butter spreads. 3 kinds of artificial cereals, instant oatmeal packets,or (my personal and only choice) the fresh and surprisingly good oranges, if there was any other dish available i did not see it. This fine dining will cost you an additional $15. A day. Fortunately there are plenty of places to eat all around and within a short walking distance. Add to this the repetitive interrogation that begins not with an," excuse me ma'am or sir" but an immediate, "you cannot have dogs on the premises" added by "even if it is a service dog" after exhibiting all the proper paperwork and identification along with the law citing such right and accommodation. They still persisted to state that they don't allow dogs not even service dogs in their establishment, all which are once again contrary to their own website and after being notified of the dog situation prior to booking. So after an unnecessarily prolonged argument before and after presenting all the legal paperwork and identification for my service dog again (for the 3rd time to the 3rd employee to demand such) he decided on the spot, this time, that he would allow us to remain in this wonderful dump. The pool is untreated, poorly if maintained at all and soupy. Thus you won't see anyone in it. But if you are a risk taker and like to live life dangerously make sure you take some antibiotics right after your swim because whatever you catch in there you probably won't be able to release. I'd only recommend this place out of absolute necessity to a desperate person when all other options are unavailable. It's best you pay a little more to stay anywhere else. We stayed in Room 242 a.k.a The bug shack, strictly out of nostalgia for our past vermin filled NYC apartment life experience. Don't unpack your luggage or leave anything open that can or should be closed or you'll be taking some if not many unwanted guests and souvenirs on the road with you. Bring ear plugs also because the planes are loud and bothersome if you're not accustomed to constant loud noise which is not an additional knock against them but rather the normal experience I've always had regardless of where you stay near any...
Read moreArrived much later than anticipated, in fact it was after 1 AM. I was expecting to wait a long time for the shuttle, but that was not the case. The shuttle arrived very quickly, about a 5 min wait, and we were at the hotel in no time. The lobby is very nice and well maintained (in fact for an $80 room I was not expecting such a nice lobby). Check in process was quick and easy and I was in my room less than 30 min after touchdown at DTW.
Unfortunately I was greeted at the entrance to my room by a piece of molding hanging from the wall in front of the door. The A/C was not the coolest or quietest (eventually it got the job done) and the shower made a constant dripping noise. The bathroom had a bit of a old and tired look... the grout was old, the caulk along the tub was cracked and showed signs of mildew. The tub while not dirty was stained and looked old and dirty. The bed however, was very comfortably (if you like a nice firm mattress) and there were plenty of pillows on one king bed. Unfortunately one pillow case had a rather large stain on it, and that was mildly off-putting, but toss that to the side and use on or two of the others. On the plus side the room had a strong wifi signal and a microwave and refrigerator. There were also plenty of A/C outlets and USB charging ports available (and they all worked BONUS!)
As for cleaning service my only comment is that my room was not cleaned... trash not emptied and bed was not made during my 2 night stay. The hotel has a policy about only changing linens every 3rd day which is fine, but I was expecting at least to return to an empty trash and a made bed. The stairwells have a very strong mold/mildew odor and the hallways could use a bit of paint or some other way to brighten them up a bit. I guess I was expecting the appearance of the lobby to extend into the hotel itself.
Breakfast is what you would expect from this tier of hotel... typical scrambled eggs, bacon/sausage and potato. Additional cereal and breads and pastries were also available as was oatmeal. The have the ubiquitous waffle maker, though one day they were completely out of batter. The lady working the breakfast was exceptionally friendly and helpful.
The lounge served a good selection reasonably priced cold draft beer and the food menu provided the typical burgers, sandwiches, pizza, wings, etc... at a decent price. Again the staff shined... the bartender/waiter/server was awesome. Extremely pleasant and helpful.
Checkout was a breeze with no issues and an emailed receipt!
Overall the hotel is definitely worth the room rate. The staff is great and some of the issues are certainly just minor little things that...
Read moreThe hotel and rooms had a very strong smell of perfume from those febreeze plug-ins, so if you are sensitive to strong smells, you want to be aware. The room also had one plugged in, but I took it out right away and put it in the closet. They have a great breakfast for free for hotel guests from 5am to 9am. There is a waffle maker-my favorite, mini cheese egg omelets, sausage, pancakes, cereal, breads, juices and coffee, etc. The bar looks nice, but it was closed because they're not open on Sundays. There is a cafe down the hall from check-in, and they have very affordable food. You can get to the cafe at any time from the entrance outside next to the main entrance. I got the chicken alfredo and a shawarma sandwich and an oreo cheesecake slice and they were all delicious and I am very happy that it did not cost am arm and a leg, it was about 20 dollars for all that and the serving was big. They have a shuttle that will take you to the airport every 30 to 40 minutes, and the driver is very nice. Please be aware that they do not have cable right now because they're changing the cables, so bring something to stream or play on a laptop, etc. The room is decent, and I can't complain since I stayed for the night to get to the airport early in the morning. There was a teeny little dust in the corners of the room and side tables, and the curtain rack in the bathroom looks like it might fall out if you yank on it. I am not sure if it's in every room, but I had a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. The front desk staff were very nice, and check-in and out was a breeze. Next is the gas station that makes pizzas and sandwiches, which I think is cool. Next to that, there's Starbucks, a burrito, and taco place. The only thing that I did not like is that the window can be opened to the outside and has no lock, it just has a little wood bar to prevent it from opening all the way, but it still had a gap when I tried to open it with the bar in the window sill. This was a bit scary because I was on the first floor, and the parking lot on the back of the hotel was right outside my window. I found a little bottle in my luggage to put in the window sill so I could sleep peacefully and not worry if something...
