I was fooled by the lobby appearance with ceramic tile and fountain which looks nice. I stayed for a week for business purposes. It was around $250 plus a $50 refundable cash deposit. I get to my room 248, first I noticed sheets and shower curtains on the hallway floor(see pics). I dismissed it thinking that people put it out for housekeeping to pick up since they said they come once a week to clean and exchange linen. This was a Sunday. So I get to my room and the door is ajar, I dismiss this as well thinking housekeeping forgot to close the door shut when they were done. I walk in and the door doesn't shut automatically, so I have to slam it shut. I played around with the door and came to the conclusion that slamming it is the only way it will shut. I go into the room and noticed a stench/odor in the room. I can't tell you what it smelled like but it wasn't a pleasant smell. I check out the bathroom and see the paint is chipping in the tub. That was to much so I called the front desk. It was hard to hear them do to the static and the sound going in and out because of the faulty cord. The lady at the front desk said she would see about getting me another room (never happened) and have maintenance come look at the door (two days later). When maintenance did come he said there's nothing he can do about it cause the building has 'settled'. What a joke! So every morning I have to slam my door shut, see a dirty hallway with sheets and the same shower curtain in the hallway. Fyi that was the same the entire week I was there. I come back and attempt to work from my laptop. Can't do that either! Come to find out the WiFi only connects when you're out of the room i.e. the hallway or lobby. The manager says it's nothing he can do about it, "the building is to big" is what he said. What a joke! Yet, that would explain a construction worker in the hallway video chatting with family, and another sitting outside door #3 with his family looking at the laptop. Front desk said that if I want my towels exchange then to call the desk and they will send house keeping up that day or whatever. I called the front desk as I was leaving out for work and they told me that I have to bring it to the desk. I was outdone! Plus I sprayed my room every day to try to get rid of the smell but I guess the smell is "settled" in the room too. Not a pleasant stay at all. Would not stay again and wouldn't recommend this place for business...
Read morePrepaid, non-refundable reservations for two nights. Relatives picked me up at the airport and decided to spend the first night with them. I called the hotel to inform them, I specifically told them I still wanted the room for the second night and if I had to "check in" I would since we drove right past it. I was assured that I would still have my room available for the next night, no need to check in since I prepaid, the room was mine. Next evening arrived to find that the reservation was "used". I showed my phone history (3 calls the previous day and the name of the person I spoke with) front desk called him, he lied, said I did not inform him I would be staying the second day and since I didn't check in I forfeited my reservation! After several more calls they gave me a room since I paid for two nights and was only using one. The female desk person was sympathetic and helpful, went the extra mile to help me. She was the only positive experience.
Like others have stated, the hall smells of a combination of weed, dirty socks and mold. The room has a "tired/worn/dated" feeling. The wall unit A/C was asthmatic and took forever to cool the room, the TV had three versions of ESPN, CNN, Fox News, Adult Swim and TVLand and you had to hold the remote within 4ft of the tv to work. The desk chair immediately drops you to the lowest seat position, almost fell backwards. The bathroom had used towels hanging from behind the door, the original wall sink was replaced by a cheap looking stand alone cabinet (the reason I knew this was because the wall still had remnants of calk, fragments of molding and bare sheet rock exposed where the old sink was). The toilet struggled to flush. I did not dare shower there, I did not pull back the covers, I slept in my clothes with one of my shirts covering the pillows.
I will not go back, I do not recommend. Spend the extra money. Several hotels...
Read moreIf I could give this place less than a star I would. I have stayed at the Magnuson a number of times now, due to it being very cost-effective and the staff is friendly, but man this place is horrible. My last and now, final, stay at this place was in early March. The van took forever to pick me up (at least an hour), but that I attribute to it being after midnight however, still no excuse since it was not busy at all. The rooms are sparse to put it kindly and there is only ever one outlet in the room (not including the bathroom) and it is across from the bed, which makes plugging in a cellphone and having it on your nightstand impossible. The floors in the hallway and the rooms feel like they may disintegrate at any moment and swallow you up, not to mention there is not a level piece of floor past the lobby. All the decor as well as the bedding and towels feel as though they are from the seventies. None of this was ever really a problem, but the real deal breaker for me had to be the critter crawling around in the wall that night. Not sure what it was, maybe a squirrel (I hope), maybe a rat, I don't know, but there was definitely something in the wall. What I do know is that, cheap or not, I will never stay in the Magnuson again. You get what you pay for and if you are looking for a cheap place that keeps you out of the elements, then it does the trick, but if you are looking for a comfortable place to stay where you won't get the heebie-jeebies, this place is not it! YMMV, and take my review for...
