The good part of my experience was my initial check-in only. The lady at the front desk was quick polite and efficient. Once I checked in I got into the room with the help of my son. I booked a room with 2 beds, for starters there was barely enough room for the luggage cart, the curtains were ripped, I didn’t want to be responsible for the
damage (which when I
tried to go down stairs
and notify the young
man at the desk he said
he’d make a note of it
he “wrote my name,
room #, etc. on a sticky
note. I then went back
upstairs and found only
sticky tape holding the
table lama bottom on
since the single plug in
had a loose
connection. We looked
around and decided it
looked clean and the
beds seemed fresh,the
bathroom was decent.
We decided to go down
for a short swim and
soak in the hot tub but,
the key card we had
just used to put in the
slot for the lights to turn on in our room
didn’t wouldn’t work in
the key slot for access
(being handicapped
and room on 6th FL
aways from the
elevator)
I went up to ask the
same young man I had
just told about the
damage to our room to
fix the card, he refused
even after I gave him
my name, key card, and room # and he pulled it up on the computer
was Not nice about it refusing to redo the keycard
and questioned me being who I said I was and told me I needed to
go back and get my DL
again even though I
had just spoken to him
less than 15 minutes
prior
however I lucked out
since the young lady
who checked me in
walked up and when he asked her and
she confirmed I was a
guest who she had checked
in he huffed and reset
the key card. I normally
have pretty good
experiences with any of
the Holiday Inns I do
stay at but, I also ran
into issues with what
appeared to be an
employee’s family who
were swimming in the
tiny pool and who
soaked our clothes,
shoes, and even made
a rude comment to me
about a minute after I
sat down in the hot tub.
The water appeared to
have just been shocked
with powder. We
decided to call it a night
went to our room and
had trouble figuring out
how to use the tiny
remote control for the
TV which had some
channels but, not much
to choose from or a way to know how to work it from initial turn on screen. I continued
to try and adjust the AC
so it wouldn’t keep the
room at sixty five/six degrees,
we never did get the
room above sixty seven degrees I know
this because even though I did
manage to fall asleep
before midnight but, not for long and my son was awake while I did sleep
the constant noise from
the airplane traffic
every minute kept my
son awake and woke
me back up at 4am.
Between the air traffic
noise, ending up on the
spot in the bed that was
apparently broken in by
time or a heavier body
weight, the cold, the
refrigerator making a
terrible constant noise,
and constant air traffic I
didn’t manage much
more sleep even with
fitted earbuds playing
my white noise for sleep and the TV on
with the air planes.
Finally about 8 am I
called down to double
check they still had
complimentary coffee
and creamer which was
Not Hot and the Hot
water was mostly
empty and not
plugged in. I ended up
using the coffee machine in the room for
a second cup of coffee
after I ended up getting
sick drinking the 1st
cup which I had to heat
in the microwave. I
would also warn
anyone like myself that
is handicapped and
doesn’t have sure
footing to stay away
from standing in the
shower’s in regular rooms with hand rails because it’s very
slippery once the water
is turned on. I
understand I used a
combo of points and
card for my room but,
that’s required a lot of
staying at other IHG’s to accumulate. I will Never stay at this IHG again. The hotel was in
obvious need of a good overhaul, the pics of the room I chose on the IHG site didn’t do a good job representing the actual room. It
makes me wary of
being willing to stay at other Holiday Inns and I would prefer spending
just a little more during my road trips with my kids back and forth to FL a couple times each year at
least. We enjoy taking
our time and having
quality time and
adventure and I need to
feel comfortable, safe,
and enough quiet to get
much needed sleep for...
Read moreNOTE: I have previously incorrectly posted this review referencing Holiday Inn Express Romulus/Detroit Airport, an IHG Hotel. And, I apologize to Holiday Inn Express. Therefore, I am resubmitting this review for the intended establishment: HOLIDAY INN DETROIT METRO.||AIRPORT SHUTTLE EXPERIENCE: Several guests including myself arrived the same time via hotel airport shuttle. Shuttle driver was very polite, courteous and respectful. However, upon arrival at hotel, no one (staff) was present at the front desk and/or lobby area. We waited for approximately 10 minutes before a staff appeared from back office. With a very solemn/cold facial demeanor we were individually checked in. No welcoming remarks, etc. It was an overnight stay for me since I was connecting flight to Japan the following day - London/Detroit/Japan intinerary.||RESTAURANT - FOOD SERVICE & FRONT DESK EXPERIENCE (Morning of following day)|Basic western breakfast (limited selections). Restaurant staff was rather abrupt and rude by advising me that I must pay her a “gratuity” fee since my breakfast was complimentary (As an option, IHG Diamond status guests receives complimentary breakfast). I was rather uncomfortable with this encounter. I immediately brought this issue to the front desk staff about the gratuity issue. Unfortunately, she bluntly told me that it was “NOT HER CONCERN” and that any gratuity issue/concern was with the restaurant and not the hotel’s. From my observation/assessment of her demeanor, tone of voice and body language, she basically conveyed an “I DON’T CARE” indifferent attitude.||As an IHG Diamond status customer, I expected a higher quality of customer service experience based on the highly commendable reviews posted in the IHG Review website. Unfortunately, it was an extremely “SUB-STANDARD” experience to me.||Personally, I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL even for an overnight stopover. The treatment I have received was so degrading/humiliating compared to the highly commendable excellent customer service experience I have received from other IHG hotel establishments. ||Overall, I have perceived that the staff I have interacted with were extremely INDIFFERENT and very deficient in providing proper customer service. Further, it was also unfortunate that my candid review (similar to this review) was never posted by IHG after my submittal within a...
Read moreI'm a avid traveler and I typically stay at IHG Hotels over others when I'm in certain areas. Check-in was seamless as I had did the check-in online the day before. So key was ready for pick up when we arrived. The overall appearance of the hotel when arriving was excellent. It was very clean and everything seemed to be where it was suppose to be. The mini store was stocked pretty well. The maid that we had cleaning our room did an excellent job. Ensuring we had fresh towels and trash was removed properly. I appreciate that. The only issues I had with the facility was the breakfast option, I didn't know that this hotel had a restaurant attached as I didn't really read. I'm use to locations having the breakfast buffet available and that allowed for everyone in our room who we registered to eat. However we only received two breakfast vouchers, and maybe that's because they are for the adults, but we had registered on our reservation a 15 yr old and a 5 yr old. Where told that 12 and under ate free and we also had another adult so that left us in a situation where they allowed the 15 yr old to eat free except she was restricted to the children's menu which didn't have to many options that appeared her. I also didn't like the fact that it wasn't a buffet that it was a order by menu. I did appreciate the cook to order Omelette but the limitations on what could be added didn't appease me as you had to pick 1 meat, 1 cheese and two veggies and I'ma a vegetarian and would have wanted to be able to add a extra veggie versus the meat which wasn't able to do that. The other thing that I had an issue with was the pool and hot tub. The pool was very cloudy, and had a lot of oil floating on it. Now granted it was also full of children but still I'm not sure if the filters were not working properly or what. Also the hot tub was very dirty water that water was clearly brown and it deterred me from using it. So I was disappointed in not being able to use that amenities while I was there because that is why I picked that Holiday Inn location, if I would have known that I would have chosen another location. Overall I was there for just two days, thank goodness it wasn't a long term stay. The waiter at breakfast was really nice and she was working alone and did a very good job managing everyone even tho she seemed as if she may have needed assistance to keep up...
