After years of staying in hotels, we decided to try the B&B route while celebrating my wife's birthday for a long weekend in St. Augustine. Picked this place because it had high ratings on Booking.com and the location and decided to overlook that this bed and breakfast no longer serves breakfast. Unfortunately it turned out to be a huge mistake which resulted in over $600 flushed down the toilet. Upon arrival, I noticed it was kind of warm and I asked the lady about the temperature and pointed out that the thermostat listed the temperature as 78 at 5pm despite fact that the AC was running. She gave me a song and dance about Florida and how ACs can't keep up with a summer day, which I found pretty frustrating. I've dealt with many dead, dying, and underpowered ACs, so I am familiar with situations where the ac has issues. We were annoyed, but we liked the location and room, so we hoped for the best. We left for an hour then returned to settle in and we were both pouring sweat within twenty days. The temperature was not unlike those horrible days after a hurricane knocks out the power. An hour later, we couldn't take it anymore and called the proprietor, who talked down to both of us, arguing that it's hotter outside, that people upstairs have hotter rooms, and that we are from Florida so we should understand these things. He was also very dismissive, saying we are the only ones that ever complained about this and refused a refund, telling us that we will lose the money if we leave. It was bad enough that we booked a new room and got out of dodge. We also lodged a complaint with Booking, but I don't think they will be able to get anywhere. Interestingly, as we left, another lady came outside and complained about how hot the rooms were and wasn't buying the silly explanation we were given either. Absolutely DO NOT stay her...

Read moreThe hotel manager lied to me about the source of noise HE MADE waking me, then yelled at me in front of the other guests to prevent me from discussing the problem with him: The loud noise of a power saw being used outside my first floor bedroom window woke me up before 8:00 am on a Saturday morning. The hotel manager and his wife both avoided speaking with me about it, and then lied to me, saying a neighbor down the street had been cutting a tree. They insisted this caused the noise even though I pointed out the right hand railing to the porch steps of the B&B were in the process of being repaired, and there was a pile of wood stacked next to a sawhorse in the front yard of this historic B&B. The hotel manager and his wife were "nice" until I asked them what adjustment to the cost of that night's hotel bill they thought would be fair for my being woken up this way. Then the husband attempted to humiliate me in front of the rest of the hotel guests by yelling at me the false statement that I did not want to pay him anything for three nights of staying in the B&B. I repeatedly and softly stated that I had never said I would not pay for the hotel, I just wanted to know what they thought was a fair adjustment for the one night. Instead of handling this problem as professionals, they were incredibly and horribly rude. They yelled that they did not want my money several times, then billed me anyway. Enjoy your stay here., so long as no repairs requiring power tools...
