Read moreThis is my story of a beautiful tea spot with a not so good customer service. Very excited to have tea time in such a picturesque location as I had seen on social media. It was a Saturday. We were told there was a wait time of 3 hours. I added myself and the family to the reservation list and we were going to take advantage of walking around St . Agustine to kill some time. We bought some iced tea drinks to go and went about exploring. Not even 45 minutes later, I recieved a message from the restaurant that our table was ready and if we did not arrive within 15 minutes, they would unfortunately give our table away. That was the first error. How were they expecting for us to get to their location when they stated the wait time was 3 hours and we were in the opposite direction? I called and they left us on our original time. We make it back to the location close to our time of reservation. We are told that our table was almost ready and it took another 30 minutes to get seated. The atmosphere and decor was beautiful! I will not take that away from them. Menus are through a QR code, which makes it a little more difficult if you have family members that do not have phones. It also does take a bit longer to decide since there are so many good options and it's harder to go back and forth on the phone to make a decision. They were trying to squeeze in as many people as they could in the small area. Once we were accommodated and settled, we were asked to get up again in order to move our table around to seat a small group that had come in from up north and the owner did not want to disappoint them since they were close to closing time and wanted them to experience it. She offered us a 5% discount for the bother. It does have amazing food choices and options for tea. The only thing not posted, is the the 3 tier tray of sandwiches and petit fours. One would never know it was available if I had not asked. I was told they do make them if requested. By then, one has made up their mind after so much scrolling, for a different choice, and left with slight disappointment. As if they prefer not to mention or promote it as it does take time to create. Food arrived with no silverware which should have been set on the table already upon arrival. It took close to 10 minutes to finally get a fork and knife, which is pretty nerve wrecking if one is hungry and just looking at your food getting colder. I had ordered tea for two and some scones. The tea arrived and the scones never showed. I asked for them to be removed from our check. The owner came and wanted to right the wrong. She had given our scones away to another table. Told us to wait. We waited, and waited, and waited. The wrong was never righted. She never returned. And we were already done with being there. Our experience in this location was not the best in customer service. They were handling way too many people and were missing that personal flair and attention expected in a high tea location. Trust me, I've been to quite a few around the world. The Modern Rose will be placed on our list of "been there done that". No...
Read moreCame here today for my birthday. Figured it would be dead for brunch on a Monday. Walked in around 12:20pm to be greeted by the owner as we were the only ones there. The decor is great and charming and well thought out. It reminds me of the waySweet Pete's thinks out their decor but in a "let them eat cake" kind of way. Even has a golden toilet. Owner informed us what was not available immediately. Which were the flights for coffee and tea which I was looking forward to. I don't drink anything with sugar added and typically drink unsweetened or black coffee and tea. He grabbed his barista who was absolutely wonderful and went thru the menu with me to pick out something I would enjoy and was not overly sweetened. Completely understandable to my special request and accomdating. Drinks were perfect. Creamy london was a perfect creamy blend with just enough of lavender. (Took a sip of my boyfriends drink) The booster was what the barista decided I should have. (Iced) It was not sweet but still refreshing without being bitter. The owner walked us through the menu and answered our questions as we were still the only ones here at this point (12:45ish) I was hoping to try the high tea tower. They require a 24 hour notice to order one. However, as they were slow he was happy to ask his wife if she could do it for us and they were able to. He said it typically takes 45minutes to prepare. We let him know we had tickets for the capybara cafe at 230. He said no problem. Our beautiful tower came in about 20mins. We ate it so fast, I was not able to get pictures. The bottom plate is three of their most popular avocado toasts. Our favorite was the just keep swimming. Was not expecting it to be the favorite but it was perfectly balanced. The venetian and some like it spicy were also very good and no complaints on either. Hard to pick a favorite! The second plate was a traditional English scone with cream and lemon curd. And two of their croissants. The Marcia which is a turkey croissant was delicious and warm and hit the savory spot. The better than, which is what I was most excited to try, was incredible! I love a good brie sandwich and with fresh blueberries and honey and the crunchy almonds on top. Everything paired perfectly together and was my favorite thing of the entire day hands down. The top plate was the petit fours. Two pieces of cheesecake which were overly sweet. Two macarons and two little bar cakes. The lemon and lavender bar cake was our favorite from those. After we finished the other owner who prepared our meal came out to greet us. I let her know we were very impressed with everything and that I have spent $400 on 4 people to have high tea from a French pastry chef and hers were better. Total with tip? $75. Not bad and completely worth it for the experience and service...
