Came to the San Antonio area for a wedding and chose this hotel due to its location near the airport and major highways to get both to downtown SA and to hill country where the wedding was located. I'm a Bonvoy member but haven't previously stayed at an Aloft, so not sure if features of this location are consistent with others. Nonetheless, we checked in past midnight to a room on the fourth floor noting that we were in a designated handicapped room (we neither requested this nor or are physically disabled). First thing we noticed was the difficulty of opening the very heavy steel fire door, which in no way would have been possible for a person with a physical disability. Aside from that fact, just the aesthetic of heavy steel fire doors in a hotel gave off Kafkaesque vibes. ||Upon entering and wishing to immediately take our wedding clothing out to hang, we noticed there was no closet in the room and a single plastic hanger hung on a short horizontal bar high up above the room safe ... but oddly with another horizontal bar just beneath it, the distance between the two making it impossible to hang even shirt-length clothing. We called the front desk asking for more hangers which the person stated they had to search for...they arrived at our room with a hodgepodge of wire and plastic hangers presumably left by guests? Due to there being no other areas to hang anything, we had to hang our clothing on the shower curtain rail. ||Also missing from the room was a dresser in which to put clothing and a luggage rack on which to open a suitcase. Instead, there was a very small table and seating area that resembled what you'd find in a college dorm, so we had to dump both of our suitcase belongings on a combination that and on top of the mini fridge and on the safe. ||The bathroom was similarly bizarre. It was huge but with a bathtub at one end of a long rectangle and the toilet on the opposite side and nothing in between on which to put a towel, any of your belongings, etc. Assuming this is because it was a handicapped room, but it the room was so large and empty, the addition of a table or hooks on the walls wouldn't have affected the presence of a wheelchair. Also with regard to the bathroom, the handheld shower fixture leaked and the water pressure was a little better than spitting due to corrosion around the sprayer. And, again, if someone in a wheelchair needed to get in, it had a seat that could pull down from the wall but how the hell would they be able to actually get in over the tub or even reach the shower nozzle way up above? Lastly, there was a fabric shower curtain but no liner, so when the water was turned on, the curtain became a sponge. ||There were other bizarre things about the room, but would describe those more aesthetic than functionality, so those can be overlooked. On the upside, the bed was comfortable. That was really all we could say that was good about the room.||Just for our experience with our room, I wouldn't recommend this hotel for anyone staying longer than a day or so. The desk staff seemed pleasant (though couldn't find a toothbrush when requested) and the common areas looked okay, but we didn't use them, so can't really comment on either. ||For the money, I would look elsewhere if I were to return...
Read moreMy stay went pretty good. The location is perfect. I love this area so much. It’s away from the hustle and bustle of the city but attractions are easy to get to. The venue itself is beautiful, clean and well kept. My room was perfect for me and my daughter. Just enough space, nice view of the pool area which was for sure a plus. The aesthetics of the hotel are excellent. I do have a few complaints which took away from my experience. I typically prepay for my rooms, mostly for peace of mind. This stay was no exception. I didn’t receive a receipt upon booking and pre-paying. I called the Aloft corporate number to receive a receipt, they instructed me to call the actual hotel. I called the hotel and the gentleman told me there was no way for them to give me a receipt until after my stay. I've never heard this before. Not sure if guy was new, or just wasn’t aware, but a receipt should be provided upon payment. I had an uneasy feeling, but I didn’t argue. I saw several reviews raving about the food, specifically the breakfast and chef queen. It was one of the reasons I chose the hotel as I was looking forward to starting the days with breakfast at the hotel, then exploring. THERE WAS NO HOT BREAKFAST. Just items provided in the snack area. When I asked the front desk clerk about the hot breakfast, she told me the items were all they had and referred me to a restaurant. There was also no food later in the day. The hotel advertises wings and other small bites during happy hour. The bartender (both bartenders during my stay were AMAZING btw!) informed me that they didn’t have a cook. So if you plan to eat at the hotel at any time of the day, CALL AHEAD. Please note, the lack of services is the sole reason I rated the service as poor. Every staff member we encountered did a great job. Lastly, the hotel doesn’t service the room unless requested. Since we planned to spend the day at SeaWorld, around 9am I asked for the trash to be dumped, and for our towels to be replaced with fresh towels. That was it, nothing much. We returned to the room just before 5pm. Trash was still full, and dirty towels were still sitting in a pile waiting to be exchanged. This was fixed promptly when I called the front office. We were also provided waters from the housekeeping manager and assured that it wouldn’t happen again... It didn't. All in all the hotel is beautiful, safe, and great for kids and adults! We loved our spring break and I had high expectations based on the reviews, they just fell short in...
Read moreI wanted to love this hotel so bad. I really did. The first thing I loved was the fact that it is extremely dog friendly, so I brought my dog. This particular visit is a staycation with my significant other. Check in was easy and at first, we were very pleased with the service upon check in and the beautiful chic/modern decor in the lobby. The room was perfect, modern and quirky all at the same time. I was preparing myself for a very relaxing and romantic night here. There was no ice maker on the first floor, but the bartender kindly filled my bucket with ice. We go to the lobby to try to enjoy a game of pool and have drinks because it really looks like this comfortable common area. I take a drink to the lobby and my S/O orders a beer at the bar. We are having a great time and talking about how we need to make this our staycation destination all the time and even come in to enjoy the bar when they have a DJ. There was a couple actively using the table so we patiently waited in the lobby just conversing and enjoying each other's company. The couple finished their game and then turned in the equipment. We approached the pool table and there is a sign that says "Please ask front desk for Cues and Billiards Thank you”. I approached the woman at the front desk to ask for the billiard equipment and she tells me, “I need your ID,” which was in my room, of course. I actually didn’t even have time to even tell her I didn’t have my ID on me because, In that same moment, this man approaches the desk, hands his ID over my shoulders, and the woman says, “Looks like they want to play too.” She grabs his ID and doesn’t even say anything to me. When I tell you I was caught completely off guard by the Caucasity of this moment! I was visibly upset and she didn’t even apologize or acknowledge that she skipped me up. I had to walk away from the situation because I didn’t want to be mean. I did approach her after I talked through it. I told her that it was very rude that I approached her first and she skipped me. I also told her that if the equipment requires an ID, the sign needs to say that so people know beforehand. Disappointed that this ruined the whole mood of...
