I stayed at City24 with my partner for three nights as part of a casual trip to explore San Diego and work remotely. We were flexible on location and curious about City24 because it was slightly less expensive than other accommodations at the time of booking.
Although it’s got “hotel” in the name, staff mentioned at check-in that City24 is more of an Airbnb. There is no daily housekeeping, and they charge a modest cleaning fee for the stay. (Unfortunately, the floor of our room was not clean — we asked for a vacuum to clean it ourselves and also bought some cheap slippers from Daiso during our trip.)
OVERALL: My rating is 3/5. I had a good stay, but it's not a great fit for my needs and preferences. I could see City24 being convenient for larger groups who are looking to stay in this area (near the airport, Little Italy, or Mission Hills). More details below!
ROOM: Our room was essentially a 1-bed, 2-bath new construction apartment, with gray-ish, unopinionated decor. The master bed is a nice-looking, king-sized platform bed, but it was really noisy. The sofa can fold out into a bed, although we didn’t see any sheets to use on the sofa bed. The master bathroom had a spacious vanity and counter, but the shower was cramped — the guest shower was actually slightly larger.
AMENITIES: I used the self-service laundry in the building without issue. You do have to buy detergent, though.
FACILITY: The building is interesting (though maybe less so to a native Californian) — the hallways are open to the outdoors. But I was always a little paranoid about dropping my keycard (which by the way is unlabeled, just a blank white card) through the wooden planks in the floor. The air freshener scent in the lobby is extremely overwhelming.
BEING NEAR THE AIRPORT: Not perfect, but not a problem. There was a faint jet fuel smell in our master bathroom sometimes. The sound from the airport was not what I’d call quiet, but it wasn’t an issue. Departures are the main concern (much louder than arrivals), and as stated on the airport website, “departures only occur without penalty between 6:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m.” Of course, if you’re here for proximity to the airport, these are just par for the course.
DRIVING AND PARKING: City24 is located right off the highway, and it’s a wee bit difficult to make the turn into the property. My partner also had some issues getting the EV...
Read moreDear City 24, this was my first stay at your hotel and upon entry, we found the hotel staff (Gael and Shantel) very welcoming and accommodating to our large party of 10 guests. Tour staff went above and beyond to help with our many needs to coordinating such a large group of visitors. Each and every room was new and freshly model with microwave, in-house phone system, decorative artwork and decor and fresh plants. In our large suit, we had 2 large king size beds, 2 bunk beds, and 2 separate pullout couch more than enough space for guests and friends. The mattress on the bunk beds were very comfortable. Having 3 bathrooms added extra convenience and access when we needed it most. More importantly, a full size kitchen with all the modern utensils were provided to prepare our home cook meals and late night snacks. City24 Hotel has gone above the benchmark and thought enough to provide handicapped parking and 3 Level 2-EV Charging stations located on their property to aid EV travelers. During our stay there were 3 EV vehicles requesting these amenities and our selection of this location was solidified with these needed requirements. We also utilized the amazing Roof Top view to see the sunsets which over looked the San Diego Airport, which made for spectacular viewing of the airport and San Diego Bay and Downtown. This was a great place for coffee in the morning and sharing a bottle of wine with friends/family. While BBQ grilling was available for use we did not get an opportunity to use them. The rooms were all soundproof and equipped with blackout curtains. Gabriel assisted us when we had questions and need assistance. Thank you Gabriel. |We asked for a slightly delayed checkout and they accommodated our request. Over all, I would highly recommend this hotel to my family and friends and we personally look forward to next stay at City 24 Hotel. It was conveniently located to most tourist attractions, restaurants/theaters and local bars for dancing and drinking. The staff made sure all were welcomed and appreciated at this property. While it is new construction (2024), the owners spared no expense with tasteful style, accommodations, security, comfort, and essential traveler needs. It is a must see and stay hotel. Please give this location your consideration in booking. I am pleasantly surprised and highly satisfied. Safe...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed here for 1 night with my daughter and one of her best friends back in Jaunuary. We stayed in a two bedroom sweet which was nicely furnished with two queen beds, two fold.out bunk beds and pull out sofa sleepers in the living room. The place was very clean and the kitchen had all the necessary pots, pans, plates, utensils, coffee maker, etc. There were 3 bathrooms and 3 tvs.
We were not connected to other suites so there wasn't noise from neighbors. Due to the proximity to Little Italy and the Airport, you are able to hear planes fly very closely above, but that also makes it so great. This is because there is a large rooftop patio area overlooking the airport runways so you can choose to watch and take off and land.
We also had a semi-private patio with a couch and table. There is also an added sense of security because you need to badge into a second gate to enter your private patio area.
Belen, the hotel Manager, is very kind too and so is Chris. I'm not sure if Chris is part owner, but he was very welcoming and contributing greatly to our very nice stay.
This ace is great and doesn't have a hotel feel, but has many amenities of home. This is a hidden gem.
Parking in an on-site structure is available for a small fee, spaces are a little on the small size, but there are is most San Diego area hotels. You can hear the nearby trains and low airplanes, but this is also common at any hotel in the area.
These suites are great for groups and families- we'll be staying here again in July. You should check out this great...
