Located in the heart of Little Italy with scooter parking conveniently located right in front, Bird Rock Coffee Roasters should be on your coffee bucket list.
While I am not a coffee snob, I have simple criteria for coffee shops.
It is my understanding that, Bird Rock Coffee is coffee worth drinking. While blogging and editing, I had a shot of expresso (it was an early morning for me), and later on a vanilla latte. The vanilla latte was quite excellent.
The biggest downside is that Bird Rock has large garage door style windows that open up. In the morning a cool breeze was blowing in and it made it almost too cold for me to sit by the windows. Thankfully a barista came by and closed the windows. Of course, during a pleasant summer evening these windows will make the perfect perch for people watching.
Awesomely enough Mark, of Chiefs & Kings, is a barista at the Little Italy location. He is always welcoming and makes coffee with a smile whether you know him or not. He definitely made Bird Rock that much more inviting.
One of the coolest things about Bird Rock is that they offer fair trade and organic coffee. Simply buying a cup of coffee can have a positive impact for social change. You can read Bird Rock's philosophy here.
All in all, Bird Rock has my vote of confidence. I have yet to try their chai tea, and would recommend the Little Italy location over La Jolla. Bird Rock La Jolla had literally no seating and was much too crowded to suit my taste. šš» if you want more than just a cup of caffeine, you are at the right place. If I'm not feeling a pour over, I enjoy the...

Iāve been coming here for a while now, and everything from the coffee, to the vibes, to the staff has always been great and genuinely welcoming. The latte art is also a nice touchāthey always do such a great job, and as a coffee lover, I really appreciate seeing it when I pick up my order.
One of the best parts of visiting is the gratitude journal at the pick-up counter. Itās such a simple yet powerful reminder to slow down and appreciate the little things, especially on busy mornings. Even with multiple locations, Bird Rock has maintained its personality, and commitment to friendliness and customer care remains at the forefront.
Whether Iām stopping in for a quick to-go order or spending a quiet morning journaling, itās the perfect place to enjoy my coffee.
The vegan pastry options are fantastic, and Iām hoping theyāll bring in even more! Iām a big fan of Split Bakehouseās pastries and love that Bird Rock supports themātheyāre absolutely delicious!
Highly recommend Bird Rock for its great coffee, cozy vibes, and amazing staff like Isaac and Sophia who make every visit...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA great selection of 3rd wave craft roasted beans, on par with other top roasters on the West Coast. There were 4 pour-over selections offered on the day of my visit, including 1 that was dry processed and 1 that was honey processed. The pour-over is a 27 gram/350 ml pour for ~$5, I believe. Each bean might be priced differently. I can't recall. I only know that the Panama selection I chose was $5.25. I'd like to see that pricing closer to $4. They sell beans in 8 oz and 16 oz bags, which is a nice break from the customary 12 oz size found at most craft roasters.
The pricing for the 16 oz Ethiopian bag that I purchased was roughly $20, which is within $1-$2 of what comparable craft roasters in other areas of the state charge for 12 oz bags of the same beans, so a good value per oz. They also include a free cup of drip coffee if a bag of beans is purchased (which is a practice I appreciate and have experienced in Bend, Oregon with Backporch Coffee), making the pricing an even greater deal. I wish they had a location in Orange County so I could enjoy the beans more often. Maybe they will sell to...
