My coffee search led me to James in Little Italy and 400+ reviews of near perfect score in Yelp do not lie. This is awesome coffee in a very cool and chill atmosphere. It almost feels like some remote island hanger converted to a central market with your clothes, general goods, coffee, and other wares. Aside from the very cool set up, the coffee is legit great.
I originally came here only for the coffee but ended up staring at the many great things sold under the same roof. There are a lot of interesting things to stare at as they make your drink. Even if you're not interested in the clothes or things for the kitchen, they have some beautiful artwork on the walls. Most people did walk away with their drink but if you just want to chill ... there are tons of tables to sit and even play on. A few have chess board embedded in them.
Service here is knowledgeable and quick. Though there was a constant line up non stop, the baristas were always moving through the line quickly as they can. I was staring at the horchata latte option and seeing how I never ever see it north of the border, I had to order it. We also got a flat white with almond milk. Though they had a tempting selection of sweets and baked goods, we passed as we just had lunch.
Horchata Latte - This wasn't as sweet as I would have thought but I guess for an espresso drink, this was probably the right balance as it was more latte with the kick of cinnamon and a light touch sweetened condensed milk. I got mine cold and it was so good in the 90F heat. I would like to try other options next time but this is a solid delicious drink. 4/5
Flat White - This was very good. Microfoam was just right and the drink was well balanced. Bold but not bitter and very smooth. It rivals some of my favourite ones I've had in Chicago and Toronto. I also love how they served it in these gorgeous cups that are locally made and designed. 4.5/5
Between Copa Vida and James... it's so hard to choose an outright favourite. This definitely had some of the best espresso drinks I've had all week. If I'm ever back in San Diego, I'm...
Read moreThe best cup of coffee ive ever tried. Justin made me a Pour Over "H........" Something coffee bean. I should have written it down. I could taste the butter in the coffee as it cooled down. We also tried the Peach Ginger tea over ice. Very tasty. My coffee, I actually drank it black for my very first time cause it was so good. The flavor !!. Justin has this very slow way of it making it, which made the flavor of the coffee better and better as it Cooled down. Wow. Usually I need cream & sugar. But Not This Time. Wow o Wow. I had to walk a little ways to get there. We walked past two 7-11 & a Starbucks. But my 23 yr old son told me. Walk & wait til we get to James and it will be worth it. So glad I did. There should be a premium name to call it rather than just cup of coffee. Justin was super nice as well. He explained to me the importance of giving it a try just black and He was Correct. I will definitely be going back. . We checked out the Eye Glass shop there also. awesome unusual frames that were very hip, cool, sick, rad and whatever else all the kids say these days. Give James a try, im super stoked I did today. Thanks Justin for explaining...
Read moreThis place was amazing. My brother and I both had cappuccinos that were both delicious and beautiful. We also tried out one of the chocolate almond croissants and one of the traditional croissants. They were both warmed up for us and delightful. The space is great with the different storefronts and several different types of seating available. Since we had never been there before we asked some questions about the options and the staff was very polite and knowledgeable. One of my favorite things to do is watch someone who is good at their craft, and I was not disappointed at James Coffee. You can even sit at the bar behind the counter and watch them all in action. The stores where not open the first time we went so we actually came back later in the day to go through the stores. I believe that I spoke with the owner in the James At Home Shop and he was very nice and helpful. You can really tell from the space and the quality of product that they produce that this is not just a job but a passion. I highly suggest stopping in and giving it a try if you are...
