Budget Car Rental — Local services in San Francisco

Firstly I wanna start by saying there were some good things about my rental but the handful of bad things just ruined the overall experience.

The few bad things I have to point out being that when I picked up the vehicle there was not a full tank but I was told it is what it is but I MUST bring it back with a full tank or I will get charged and also have a fine added. When I returned the car on the receipt it stated out fuel level :17.0Gal fuel in 23.5Gal so I had to pay for an extra 6.5 Gal of gas that I do not feel I should have paid for.

Secondly I hired a “full size pick up truck” however after I dropped off the vehicle I found out I was actually given a mid sized pick up truck I found this out by mentioning to the guy who checked the vehicle back in that the other trucks seemed bigger than mine and he said “yes that is because they are full size and yours is a mid” I used to work for a rental company myself and giving a customer the wrong vehicle or and still charging to for vehicle they should have had is just wrong and has really disappointed me.

Now there were some good things I don’t want this review to be fully negative. Firstly the lady who served me what I picked up the vehicle was lovely and very friendly and can not fault her at all. Also the vehicle we did get was clean and modern (even though it should have been a different vehicle) and the location was close to the place I was staying.

Overall I would still suggest you hire here just make sure you are getting what you are actually paying for and ask for a fuel level report when picking up so you can drop off with the same level of fuel rather than paying...

When I went to pick up the car I reserved I was told only electric vehicles were available. I specifically reserved a regular gas powered mid-size sedan, like Toyota Camry, but nothing was available at the pick up location. My only choices were a Hyundai Ioniq 5 or a Ford Mustang Mach E. I asked the person at the counter if any other locations had gas cars and without checking he said no. He asked where I was driving to so I told him and he assured me that the 250 mile range of the vehicle would be more than enough. He only took into account the drive to my destination and back but did not take into account the driving I would be doing at my destination over a couple of days. I was forced to accept the EV and given no other options. I asked if there were any other vehicles available even a different class like SUV, van, or truck and they told me no. I only have 2 choices, Ioniq 5 or Mach E. They were not apologetic at all that the type of vehicle I reserved well in advanced was not available and instead assured me that I would love the EV so much when I got home I would want to buy one. When I got home I did not buy a new Ford Mustang Mach E. They acted more like an EV salesperson than someone wanting to help me get the rental car that I reserved and wanted. We drove well over the 250 mile range and had to charge the car. When I got to our destination I had to make arrangements with our hotel to use their EV charger so that we could charge the car overnight so that we would have enough charge to drive back to the airport for our early...

I have to say, my experience renting a car at the Avis Union square location was amazing. After having a long day at work and a lot of hurdles thrown my way that day, I needed to rent a car as my car was having repairs. That day Vitaliy and Lisa were beyond helpful, I usually dread socializing as I just want to get on with my day but they were so nice and welcoming when I entered and I ended up chatting with them for 30 minutes having a wonderful conversation. They were super attentive to me and any other customer that walked in while I was there. They looked at my reservation asked what type of car I need to help me out in my situation and even took the time to make sure the vehicle I was getting would be the most comfortable and capable for my needs. Furthermore, the staff retrieving my vehicle were so friendly and nice and they even took the time with me to identify any damages on the vehicle and even asked if I needed help finding any of the controls as these newer cars seem to move everything to a hidden place such as the climate controls.

I usually never leave reviews however after that experience I will only ever rent cars from this location as with my prior experience many other Avis branches aren’t as friendly or they give dirty cars and say sorry that’s all we got not willing to help any further.
