Stayed here with my partner June 2024. We were in San Francisco to celebrate our 20th Anniversary of us being together and San Francisco had been a place we’d wanted to visit for a long time. We’d booked this place after seeing all the good reviews for it online however just before we came a few bad reviews popped up and had us a little worried as people had mentioned its proximity to The Tenderloin district and people mentioned how it felt unsafe. We looked and did a bit of further research and decided we should be fine and really there was nothing to worry about. Whilst not too far from it, it really isn’t Union Square and yes it is on the edge of The Tenderloin district but we saw very little of any issues apart from a few rough sleepers who didn’t come near the hotel and it was just like any area of any other city and the majority of the issues that come with The Tenderloin district were mainly confined to that area itself. In fact we found ourselves in the middle of that area on our first night and whilst there were some sad sights we actually faced no problems walking through, just like anywhere you just have to be vigilant.||Back to the hotel itself upon arrival we loved the decor and its quirkiness and the staff were great, friendly and welcoming everyone we encountered were nice and helpful. We were informed of the lift (elevator) being out of order however we had been aware of issues with regards to this from reviews we’d read. To make up for this the daily resort charge that guests pay (more on this later) was wavered for one of the days. We got to our room which whilst not huge was an ok size with big bed and desk, decent wardrobe space and even a table and chairs at the small window. The shower room was a good size. Everything you needed was in the room as well as a complimentary water bottle to be able to fill up with water downstairs. This is a lovely idea but it’d be nice if there was one for each guest in the room instead one between 2. Aircon good and the bed is really comfy and we generally had good nights sleep the 4 nights we were here. Down the stairs where reception is also has a bar and lounge area as well as a small mezzanine containing a small seating area. In the lounge each afternoon they have complimentary coffee and cookies which is a nice touch (we had them one afternoon) and snacks such as toasties and pastries etc in the morning can be purchased at the bar. We used the lounge areas a couple of times to have a drink it was a nice chilled area. The situation of the hotel we found to be pretty good, near buy are a number of bars, restaurants and diners and about a 10 mins walk down the road was union square handy for shops, the underground, busses and trams (San Francisco’s public transport systems are fantastic). We also found when returning to the hotel of a night and we got back quite late some nights, we had no issues getting into the hotel as some people seemed to have mentioned on here I can’t say we had the same experience.||We absolutely love San Francisco and would love to return and we really did enjoy the hotel and absolutely loved the quirkiness of it however we did have a few negatives that may stop us from booking here again which is a shame. ||The resort charge for general housekeeping/replenishment of your room and for things like wifi, and general amenities etc is I have to say a little on the high side but also something I disagree should be charged as an extra. Yes it means is you wish you can use bikes free of charge if you so wish but it wasn’t something we wished to do, Also housekeeping of the rooms are done every other day which in itself isn’t a problem (we were able to get more unlimited coffee and creamers from reception) but this meant whilst we paid for 3 out of 4 days of our stay (due to one day being wavered) we actually only had our room made up and replenished once. Meaning just one day whilst paying for the other days, obviously the day we arrived the room is already made up, following day meant no housekeeping in our room we then had it the following day and the day after that was our check out day. Also WiFi in hotels these days is just standard and for any other amenities you expect these in a hotel as part of what you already pay.||The second issue we had was whilst the hotel was generally quiet there is a bar next door to the back. It mainly seems to be outdoors in a kind of court yard area and towards the end of our few days we decided to head back the hotel one afternoon to chill out for a bit and maybe have a nap before heading out but this was impossible as there was a DJ on in the bar next door the noise…was… horrendous and I mean so loud parts of the hotel including our room shook and vibrated it was so bad I felt ill with it. Now don’t get me wrong thankfully when we returned that night for bed it was back to being quiet but we did also purposely stay out late to hopefully avoid it but even having that amount of noise for any part of the day is just not acceptable and it needs seriously looking into.||Unfortunately despite absolutely loving aspects of the hotel these two negatives would make us reconsider whether we’d return, which is a shame as we did like the hotel. San Francisco is such an amazing city and well...

Only bitter scaredy cats with zero street smarts that watch too much Fox news won't appreciate this hotel in the heart of all the coolness. Pay no attention to the negative reviews that like to bag on our city as they have an axe to grind & only WISH they could live here.LOL✌🏽
Your stay here will be simply AWESOME -Trust.
Just had some family from out of town stay here this week and they fell in love with this cool hotel too. They were especially impressed with the check in staff, overall cleanliness of the hotel and picked up some groceries from a couple nearby local bodegas.
Still AWESOME!!!!! one of the best if not thee BEST boutique hotel in town.Seriously,Shout out to the especially fabulous staff who truly go above & beyond.. 5 Stars all the way baby!
FYI: NOBODY is stealing luggage out of rooms, get real, sounds like someone bitter is trying to slander this hotel's well deserved & excellent reputation. And to the lady who keeps griping about her "feather"allergy, and pillow ,take your meds and touch grass you sound like a complete PITA. Seriously tho,GET OVER IT! #firstworldprobs
Yes,ALL the glowing reviews speak for themselves.Anyone with complaints in regards to this hotel/staff/location are probably just miserable, whiny, entitled, human beings in general and will never be happy ANYWHERE & live to complain.I've especially noticed a trend with bitter East Coasters always complaining about SF and California in general.I'd hate life too if I was stuck on the Worst Coast. Sorry, West Coast rules!
Well where should I start? I've passed by this hotel numerous times, and even peeked in as well on occasion . I finally decided that I would treat myself to a little mini solo vacay for a night and decided to book a room here based on the convenient location and the cool kitsch of all things pineapple.(My favorite fruit) It is downtown so prepare for a few "colorful"characters here and there and tbh, I have never once felt unsafe around the hotel property.
Front doors are promptly locked at 7 for those concerned.Felt VERY safe at all times..
The check in gal was VERY friendly and super helpful. An absolutely beautiful lobby with pineapple water and cookies awaits you. A nice touch.
The rooms are on the smaller side just so you know upfront.I didn't pack much, so it wasn't really an issue personally. The bed has a firm mattress and had a nice lightweight comforter and super comfy large pillow that came in handy as well. My room faced Geary, but surprisingly was very quiet & got a decent nights sleep. The bathroom was spacious with awesome extra large fluffy towels & Tommy Bahama bath products that smelled heavenly.. Good coffee with real creamer and ceramic mug was available which I greatly appreciated.
Location wise: Excellent and VERY safe. It's pretty much in the heart of Union Square, plenty of places in walking distance for eating, art galleries, shopping, theater district and no shortage of mini convenient markets with lots of folks around out & about. If you are not parking,Lyft/Uber is always an option.
Everything about the hotel is primo and on point.Exceptionally clean & spotless. You can tell they put great care into all the details.. Would absolutely recommend this 5 star hotel and will definitely be staying here again in the future.Did I mention the whole place smells really, really good? Reminded me of Hawaii ..
FYI- The hotel is NOT located in the Tenderloin despite what many misinformed (non local) travelers might say otherwise. This general area is technically Lower Nob Hill/Union Square.
Yes,the bar is closed, but you should always ask as many things closed during the pandemic and never returned. A quick call to the hotel would have clued you in so don't act surprised as that's on you..Besides there are literally tons of bars within a few feet of this property..
P.S. You can also purchase the little stuffed dog in the room and the proceeds will benefit a good cause. WonderfuL!
🍍💛🍍I Love Stay...
Read moreStayed here for one night with our two large dogs and baby before moving overseas in June of 2022. Probably would have been a good stay if our circumstances were different, but it wasn't a great last day/night in the country.
Dog "obsessed": They allow dogs. All of their claims about how much they love dogs is silly. Note that there is nowhere to let your dog relieve themselves anywhere close to the hotel. No dirt patches in the sidewalk, no parks for a few blocks, nothing. We booked with a pet package promo (beds and food bowls were supposed to be provided for free) but they weren't in the room and we didn't bother to request since we were exhausted and could make do with what we packed for the flight. I don't believe we got charged the pet fee (as part of that promo), but I didn't check.
Baby cot: They don't guarantee a baby crib since they only have a couple of them, but we were able to get one. The pack n play was clean but overused to where the mattress was way too thin to the point that you could feel the support beams way more than normal so we had to pad underneath with blankets to make it usable.
Parking: Used an app to book us a parking spot ahead of time in the garage right next door - the attendant was in and out of the lobby grabbing free drinks so they obviously have a relationship. Terrible experience with him and the garage (not app) double charging us and not keeping to gate hours.. absolutely do not recommend, but they are not formally with the hotel so this is just a warning.
The actual issue: The absolute avoidance and lack of communication by the corporate Staypineapple is why I'm bothering to leave a review. I accidentally brought along some hair styling tools I meant to leave behind totalling ~$300. I asked the front desk in the morning for a nearby post office, but was instead told by two employees (one confirmed with the other) that they would send the box to a provided address and send me an invoice for the shipping. I also provided my contact information and asked that somebody would let me know if that wasn't possible or the shipping would be over a certain amount, in which case I didn't mind if the items were taken home by an employee but I wanted to be made aware. I never got an invoice or communication and my mom never received the tools so I reached out a few months later via e-mail (my only option from overseas) and nobody from the hotel would respond back to me. I didn't want to be compensated or have somebody lose their job, just to make sure my box wasn't sitting in their storage somewhere as I was hoping to have those tools available when I visit and would really rather not replace them. Room was clean, cute, and quiet. Older bones like most of San Francisco but modern decor. A little tight for our needs (lots of luggage and two giant dog crates) and the bed was far too soft, but we liked it. Location is too close to a shady district and there is NOWHERE to walk your dog to use the bathroom. We were able to Doordash in some delicious food later in the evening, but there weren't all that many close options open on a weekday at night, including what was in the hotel. The free drink from the coffee bar in the morning was very well made and delicious. Not a bad drive to SFO at all from somebody who hates driving in the Bay Area. We also got some help loading and unloading our truck which was greatly...
