Read moreDespite the expensive digs and gorgeous manicured retail layout, this shop is all about real usable advice and gear. From traditional to new age thinking, George and his team have found a great balance between attracting younger newcomers while still catering to the stubborn old timers.
You can likely find plenty of the gear here on sale somewhere else, but besides the endorphins you get from supporting a local non-chain business, you get real actual live in person support from people who care.
Lost Coast has never tried to upsell me and has always been very conscious of my budget, although it's pretty easy to spend a couple grand in a visit.

A beautiful little gem, warmly lit, with delightful ambience, and run by super-knowledgeable people who are expert fly-fishermen in their own right. When I last went there, it was a dull, dreary day, and the warm light from inside this charming store spilled out to the sidewalk in contrast to the grey concrete buildings surrounding it.
