My daughters and niece and I snagged a room here as an Express Deal on Priceline on a list minute whim to stay an extra night in San Marcos, after staying at a much nicer resort the day before. While the room looked decent at first glance (the pictures do the room much more justice than it should), after a couple of hours in the room, we noticed more about it. Our room (110) was dated, and there were stains in the tub, on the toilet, and on the furniture, which was also chipped and worn. The cleaning of the room was not the best, but overall it wasn't horrible.
Because I had experience with bed bugs just after I moved into an apartment over 6 years ago. I learned way too much about them and whenever I stay in a hotel, I always check for signs of them on mattresses and other areas. I did the same here and didn't see any obvious signs of bed bugs (though I did find an old butter pack when I raised the duvet to check the mattress...)
With that said, all four of us ended up with bumps on us the next day (arms and face). I even felt the itching in the middle of the night and woke up and used the flashlight on my phone to check to see if I could see anything.
I know that bed bugs usually bite in a line, and each of us had at least 2 or 3 bites in a line or a cluster. I am obviously not certain that the bites were from bed bugs since I did not actually see any, and I pray to God they were not, but the bottomline is that we were all bit up by something.
Outside of the issue of the bites and hearing the footsteps of the visitors above us, I would say that the stay was... okay. People were swimming and hanging out at the pool once it cooled down that evening, which was cool, and the girls ate their dinner at a table near the pool area. We even saw the pool being cleaned when we were leaving the next morning. The shower was hot and the water pressure was good. The coffee maker worked well and the coffee was...
Read moreWe stayed at the Days Inn in San Marcos on October 26th and 27th. The first thing we noticed as we walked in was the room had a funny smell to it. They tried to mask it with some kind of deodorizer , but it had a funky smell to it. The next thing we noticed is the walls must be paper thin because we could hear the people next door doing things in the next room. The WORST thing was the traffic noise. It sounded like the freeway traffic was driving through our room. The 18 wheelers sounded like they were roaring incessantly through the walls of our room. They put us in a room directly under the stairs to the second floor, so you could hear everyone who went up and down. We were also close to the room where the laundry was being done and the noise permeated the room. The free breakfast was a joke, as if we wanted toast for the morning start. The a/c unit did work well, the only positive thing I could say about this experience. The refrigerator wasn’t event plugged in when we tried to use it. Either it was unplugged to save on the electric bill, or it didn’t work so the unplugged it. Keep on driving , there has got to be a better place to stay for the $90+ dollars a night we were charged for the room. If I were you I would keep on driving and stay...
Read moreNEVER EVER AGAIN. I will sleep in the car if I can not find anything else. This is the defination of "Roach Motel" with actual roach crawling on the bed after I lifted the pillow. The only positive thing about this location was the shower, great water pressure. The towels were very old, ratty and stained. The "Red" bedding had bleach stains. The blankets were torn. When I asked for another blanket and pillow. I was told to walk back to the front desk and get them. When I arrived two men were talking to each other. The man in the chair spun around around and ask is he could help me with something since I had interrupted there discussion. I said that I had called down for another blacket and pillow. They said they don't have any. I responded by saying " I just called and you told me to walk over here" He then said well I go see if I find something. Which they only found a pillow that was not really in "Pillow Form" anymore and a sheet. The Breakfast selection is VERY VERY limited. After watching how they handled the food without gloves or at least washing his hands. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND...
