I've posted on another site about the Bird House (which I love!) but I feel compelled to write one here after seeing another review that talks about the price and the fake homeless issue... first off: this place is AMAZING. The owner has created a living space that is full of Sarasota history and such creative, cool and fantastical artifacts, it's hard to believe that she rents this out. Second: Sarasota has a homeless population (OMG, right?), but the shelter is not anywhere near this place. Let me be clear: this is not a place where you will interact with the homeless population. It's not like you're in downtown Chicago or San Francisco. This place is situated in a neighborhood right around the corner from a grocery store (Publix!), a short ride from the beach and 11 blocks away from downtown Main Street with all of the restaurants, art galleries, and nightlife you could want. Plus, it's centrally located (literally within just a few minutes) from a ton of Sarasota culture: the Ringling Museum, the Asolo, the orchestra, the opera, the ballet, in addition to the Ringling School, New College and the airport. On top of all that? It's super clean, it's stocked with everything you could want and there just isn't...
Read moreI have stayed at both houses. The Bird House is my favorite. Beside the fact that it is a historic Sarasota house that was moved to its present resting place it just has a charm that makes me smile. I stayed here while my home was being remodeled and fell in love. I have even had my mother stay here when she was in town with friends. It is close to downtown Sarasota as well as the beaches. The owner "Kitty" takes care of the gardens herself to make sure that they keep their Florida charm. They are a great place to sit relax and just read if that what you want to do. She is also a fountain of "Old Sarasota" information and loves to tell the stories of growing up here. Great place to stay....oh and the kitchen is a great gathering spot for company. Keep up the great work Kitty. I will be back with...

It's so close to everything in Sarasota - downtown, shopping, Dining, the beach, art galleries, art museums, Ringling School of Art & Design... it's just an amazing location! And the host was very accommodating, I live in Sarasota; but I had family coming in from out-of-town and Katherine put us right up, it was not a problem and the rooms were nice and cozy for everyone. Great spaces for gatherings- I cannot say enough about this place, if you're coming to Sarasota, this is the spot...
