I enjoyed this Square a lot, because it has a plate to commemorate the Battle of Monterrey during the American Invasion to México during 1846. I am from Monterrey and even that the Battle was won by the American Army, Monterrey defended the city with honor and heroism. It wasn’t easy for the General Z. Taylor to took over Monterrey.
Besides and very interesting is that, during that war, a group of Irish soldiers gave up on American Army and joined the Mexican Army. I read that the first battle of the Army from Savannah was formed by Irishmen. So I wonder if some of the Irish who stood for Mexico, were from Savannah.

I had never been to Savannah before (other than staying at a nearby hotel off I-95) but this square is exactly what I envisioned this city would be like.
Elegant historic homes surround this small park. A monument honoring the 1846 Battle of Monterey is also situated here.
This square oozes southern charm. There were beautiful colored flowers blooming, touches of Spanish moss and some park benches.
The Mercer House is also conveniently located right across the street from Monterey Square.
