I enjoyed this Square a lot, because it has a plate to commemorate the Battle of Monterrey during the American Invasion to México during 1846. I am from Monterrey and even that the Battle was won by the American Army, Monterrey defended the city with honor and heroism. It wasn’t easy for the General Z. Taylor to took over Monterrey. Besides and very interesting is that, during that war, a group of Irish soldiers gave up on American Army and joined the Mexican Army. I read that the first battle of the Army from Savannah was formed by Irishmen. So I wonder if some of the Irish who stood for Mexico, were from Savannah. Every side has to honor their Heroes. Respect to the Soldiers that fought on both sides 🙏🏼

A small square designed in 1847 to honor the 1846 battle of Monterey during the Mexican American War. However, the monument in the middle was erected in honor of General Pulaski who was killed in battle nearby. I have included pictures of the surrounding residential and commercial buildings. Also included is the Mickve Israel Temple (built in 1878), home to one of the oldest congregations practicing Reform Judaism in the United States.

We stumbled upon this beautiful square while wandering through the city of Savannah.

I had never been to Savannah before (other than staying at a nearby hotel off I-95) but this square is exactly what I envisioned this city would be like.

Elegant historic homes surround this small park. A monument honoring the 1846 Battle of Monterey is also situated here.

This square oozes southern charm. There were beautiful colored flowers blooming, touches of Spanish moss and some park benches.

The Mercer House is also conveniently located right across the street from Monterey Square.

If you have time while in Savannah, I recommend stopping by for a few minutes. It's very...
