The hotel is charming, we stayed 1/3-1/6 in the room labeled General Nathanael Greene. I’d been wanting to come to Savannah for over a year now, since we frequent different parts of the south. However, I feel the customer service and its attentiveness needs a face lift. Some examples: the main entry doors are locked, you have to ring the door bell and be allowed in. Upon arriving, we were ringing the door bell with no one to answer; finally a guest who was in the living room area elected to let us in and said the receptionist was somewhere. I immediately thought bathroom break, but when she came in from the back, I got a strong whiff of cigarette. The door bell was pretty loud, which left me with the impression that we were being dismissed while she took a smoke break. (She was lovely nonetheless, and I decided to dismiss, since I later learned her dog who I later saw on sight, had had a seizure and I know how stressful that can be). Upon entering the hotel, the first thing I also recognize is how stagnant the air smelled.
However, the experience that really left a poor and lasting impression, was the man who was there Sunday evening/ night on 1/5. Caucasian, somewhat overweight to describe. If I can recall, it was between 730-9pm, we had decided to call it an early night. In the previous nights, I believe her name was Catherine, had the fire place going and set up for a lovely atmosphere. When I walked downstairs, it wasn’t on or seemed out, and it was somewhat cold. I walk over to kindly request, and encounter the man who was doing nothing but sitting on the chair, and met me with a stoic look on his face. When I requested if he can turn on the fireplace or if I can assist, his question was: Well is it 50 degrees outside?
I initially thought this might be a joke, but quickly realized through his demeanor that he really didn’t want to get off his chair. He then kept blabbing about it, to the point where I felt uncomfortable. I sat on the chair as he continues on saying that he’s going to turn it up only because the pilot was on, but that if it weren’t “50 degrees” bla bla. It was to the point where I felt compelled to look at my weather app, which behold, it said 50 degrees outside! I regret not expressing myself to him, but I really wanted to say can you shut up now? He could use the extra steps ….
I run a business for a living. Without our customers and mutual respect for them, our business would be no more. Likewise, if management is reading this, your guests keep your business alive. I would remind your team that its events such as these that eventually run a business dry; really consider who you hire to represent...
Read moreHad wanted to stay here for years, but was disappointed with our visit. The inn is beautiful, and we enjoyed learning about its history. Our room was spacious and we were happy with the fresh roses, chocolates, and cookies. However, this place did not live up to its high ranking on TripAdvisor. When we arrived, we were greeted by a woman and man, but neither seemed eager to check us in. The woman took our name and disappeared. The fellow, who we weren't even sure worked there, was dressed in very casual and somewhat sloppy attire. His demeanor was friendly but very low energy. He mumbled so much that we could barely understand what he was saying. As he showed us around, he mentioned at least five things that were broken or didn't work correctly. He also gave us warnings about how to use certian things so as not to cause problems later. We could only wonder why they hadn't taken the time to fix things. We took advantage of the complimentary hors d'oeuvres in the evening, but the forks provided had run out and we had nothing to eat with. We pointed this out, and the fellow simply said, "Yeah, were out. We think people steal them." We stared at him blankly as if to ask "Okay, what do we eat with then?" and he finally said we might be able to find some forks in a drawer across the dining room. We had to disturb another guest sitting closeby to get into the drawer and look for them ourselves. The appetizers themselves seemed store-bought and lacked flavor and character. The next morning, breakfast was quite ordinary... soggy potatoes, a strange take on croque madame, and we had to wait for them to brew a pot of decaf. No decaf available at the early-morning and afternoon coffee set-up either. The friendly breakfast waitress was very loud and inappropriately opinionated as she talked with guests, making conversation difficult at our table. We have traveled all over the world and are accostomed to high-quality service at inns of this supposed calibler. The price we paid for a room seemed to be only for the historic setting; certainly not for the service and extras. We were not impressed with the Hamilton-Turner Inn and...
Read moreAfter attempting to book the advertised "Honeymoon Package" in combination with the James Oglethorpe Suite online, I had some questions regarding inconsistent package pricing. Once selecting my desired package and room, the package subtotal was clearly displayed on two different pages / tabs as $1040.00 for the dates I selected. Upon continuing with the reservation process the subtotal jumped up another $147.00. At the middle of the page was also an area for "Optional Services" which displayed a $30.00 champagne option and a $110.00 carriage ride option. With no explanation of what the $147.00 increase was, I came to the logical conclusion that it was probably the champagne and carriage ride cost plus a few dollars in taxes. Given that these services were advertised as being included in the package price (that was advertised at the $1040.00 subtotal amount) on the previous webpage, I decided to call the Inn and speak with the Inn Keeper to clarify why there was an additional charge for services that were supposed to be included in the package price. I must admit, I was very disappointed with the lack of customer service skills and the unpleasant attitude that the Inn Keeper possessed. I could not voice a complete sentence or question without being rudely cut off each time. The pricing discrepancy was blamed on their website, and I was told that they would not honor the advertised package price. While this was not a deal breaker, her attitude and lack of customer service skills certainly was a deal breaker. So a word of advice to anyone looking to book a room at this Inn, be aware that their website package pricing will probably not be accurate, and the subtotals displayed initially will not be honored. Also be aware that if you are looking for an inn that will treat you with southern hospitality, kindness, and good customer service then this will not be the...
