Update 4/10/25 Went back tonight and dined in. We ordered for 6 people, 4 sandwiches, sides and drinks, plus 2 orders of Ramen. We did not get one of the Ramen orders. We went and told the person at the counter. She said she only charged us for 1, so we paid for the 2nd order, the order was placed and we waited. My husband went up to the counter to check on the order as it was taking a long time. They said it would be out soon. Then another member of our party went to check on the order a few minutes later and they then said they forgot about it. We asked for a refund and this man who worked in the kitchen came out and started to argue with us. He was rude, acted crazy, a little scary and was unwilling to solve the problem. We went without the order after spending 150.00 at this place and one person in our party never got a meal. He said, "Go ahead, give me a bad review, I don't care." So here is the bad review. As a local in Savannah, I had thought I found a good sandwich shop. We will never come back here again and will tell everyone we know of our bad experience.
I loved that this deli was open after 3 pm! They are open till 9! So many places in town miss out on business because they close so early. My order was ready when I got there. I actually wanted to add a few more salads to our tab. They charge by the pound (13.00 per lb). I got a black bean salad that had corn, mangos, cilantro, tomatoes. The flavors worked so well together. Very refreshing. Their brocoli salad was made from fresh brocoli florets and the dressing is sweet but light. Couldn't resist getting a little something from their dessert case. They had tiramisu, cheesecakes, cookies and a banana cream pie that was to die for. I got the Turkey Club and generous side of beet salad (which was absolutely fantastic!). My husband got shrimp salad on a croissant with another very generous side of potato salad which was delicious. He said the shrimp had been cooked perfectly. It is 18.00 for the sandwich and 1 side/ salad combo If you want to dine in, plenty of seating, even though it is in a small, quaint space. And in the nicer weather, there are tables outside. I would highly recommend this deli. Catering would also be a great way to go for an office party...
Read moreMy family was craving something light, like sandwiches, and Urban Deli was the only restaurant that was close AND had near 5 star reviews. Plus it's located just outside of South Historic District, so not only do you get a good meal, it was also around nice scenery. Upon arrival, it was packed with patrons and I loved how the building was quaint and cozy. I was looking forward to trying it after reading so many rave reviews. However after actually dining there, I was left disappointed.
Nearly all the sandwiches are 15$ each. They serve 17$ ramen, but only after 4:30pm. They have other options but I didn't look at those. You could choose a sandwich and salad combo for $8. Drinks (bottled and canned) are 5$ each. The kids menu items were extremely limited without a price next to it. As we were checking out, we were shocked of the register price of over 50$ for just an adult and child. Come to find out, a drink was 5$, the kids sandwich (bread, cheese, and meat) was $13. It did not include a side. Adding a side a la carte (fruit) was 5$. But we were already there and my kids were starving. So when we finally checked out, 4 sandwiches (2 which were just cheese and turkey), 2 salads, a side extra of fruit, chips, and two canned beverages costed a whopping $95.
In no world would I ever pay almost 100$ for a meal of sandwiches for a family of four. That's absurd. I get that I'm in Savannah and that the area is historic but I'm from Nashville where things are considered overpriced too. But for 100$ I should have gone to another restaurant, any restaurant, for food that's worth the money.
The positive? The sandwiches are decent but small. Unlike other reviewers said, they were nowhere near the best I've ever had. Even a lady who was sitting with her mother next to us was complaining about "$20 dollar sandwiches". What's an insult to injury is that I went to Lady and Sons for dinner that night and our entire meal for 4 with unlimited food was cheaper than lunch at Urban Deli. I won't be coming back and I can't...
Read moreI was so excited to try this place as I have seen it on social media.
I ordered the roast beef and brie, and my sister ordered the prosciutto and mozzarella. The roast beef was a textural nightmare - wet, soggy, and flavorless. The roast beef was over cooked (the roast beef comes already cooked - it just needs to be warmed). The Brie was so over done it turned into a mayo paste texture! The prosciutto and mozzarella literally had one shriveled piece of prosciutto for almost $20.00. I felt robbed and scammed, these sandwich’s are so lettuce heavy with zero flavor. Even the cokes were flat, we had to open multiple bottles to get a fresh coke,
The sides were OK but needed salt. The salt shakers they had were filled with a coarse finishing salt and not table salt, so we had to unscrew the top of the shaker just to get some. I want this place to do well, the atmosphere and location is adorable and the service was great, the girl behind the counter was knowledgeable about the brand of meats and ensured our safety with the current recall of boars...
