This is my sincerest review of my disappointing experience at Hyatt House Seattle/Downtown on 7/29 through 8/2. When we first arrived to check in on our first evening, we noticed police right outside the hotel. Two suspicious strangers were arguing very aggressively out on the street and our family felt unsafe. We proceeded to walk into the lobby and the first thing we saw was a huge mess of chips all over the floor. The staff nervously apologized for the mess but there was absolutely no urgency to clean it up. Staff members at desks continued to use their computers despite there being no other guests except us. Not the best first impression.
The following days we decided to rent a car and pay for the onsite hotel parking. Parking was very limited with tight spaces. On top of this, this hotel has some serious elevator issues. The rooms, staff, and garage all share only TWO elevators and only ONE of those elevators leads down to the parking garage creating lots of elevator traffic. Waiting for elevators took forever and other guests expressed their shared concerns about this issue as well.
The worst part of the hotel was that on one of the evenings there was no hot water and there was no note of warning whatsoever. When my family discovered this on our own, we called the front desk and the staff member said “Let me check with maintenance,” and hung up abruptly. After some time, I received no call back and still had no hot water. I went down to the front desk myself and I patiently expressed my concerns and stated that there was no warning about maintenance. What I received in return was disgusting and completely unexpected. The staff member was extremely rude, sarcastic, and almost seemed to be projecting his own personal problems onto me. Seconds later as I was angrily walking back to the elevators after our exchange, he proceeded to answer a telephone call. Loudly, to make sure I would hear it, he said, “Yes we currently have no hot water.” Followed by, “Oh, thank you SO MUCH for understanding!”, as if to step on me and get his last word in.
The reason why this was so problematic for my family is because my youngest son has a serious skin condition and needs warm water everyday to be treated properly. Not only did the Hyatt House stop access to the hot water; they did so without warning! After trying to have a civil conversation about this issue with the front desk, I felt violated by the utter disingenuousness by this staff member. His name was Anthony and he was the night auditor. When he said his name, he also said to me “would like me to spell that for you”. This was completely unacceptable and Hyatt House should oversee and coach this type of behavior.
All in all, my family chose Hyatt House for a vacation in Seattle. While we enjoyed our time exploring the city, the hotel was easily the WORST part of our vacation. We had no peace of mind whatsoever and would 100% choose to stay elsewhere if we had to do it all over again. Stay somewhere else if you want a hotel where you don’t have to think about safety, unhelpful and rude staff, and all of the other annoyances...
Read moreI hate to leave this kind of review but I feel like I need to. Upon trying to check in, we tried to park and were told we couldn’t park until we checked in, so my fiancé had to drive around in circles while I checked in to avoid paying to park somewhere just to pay to park here a few min later, very inconvenient. There’s no parking lot or place to keep your car while checking in, so if you’re alone beware of that. Next, we booked on the hotels website for a KING STUDIO SUITE CITY VIEW. When we arrived after already paying, they said they did not have any kings left and gave us a 2 queen bed city view room. They said they would switch us to a king room the next day. We got to the queen room, the view was of the parking lot and some trees, could barley see the very bottom of the space needle through the trees. Atleast the room was the same as advertised online even though it wasn’t what we paid for. Unfortunately there was dirty dishes in the sink and urine on the toilet seat underneath the seat. The next day I went to check into my correct room, had to wait a few hours so we went to eat, no big deal. Come back to check in and go up to the room, room does not match description online. We did not have the large table, nor the wooden centerpiece with the tv separating the bed from the sofa area. Room was not 420 SQ as described, was more like 300. This room was so much smaller than the previous room we were in. It did not look like the room I booked in the pictures. I’m sure they put me in the wrong room but refused to fix it for me or make it right for me. They offered me 500 points for compensation, yet it cost 15,000 points to stay for 1 night, so 500 is nothing, and I just became a member to stay here. The toilet in this room had black sticky stuff on the seat, the automatic blinds did not work and phone did not work, also phone did not work in other room either. This place was somewhat dirty, and stuff did not work. Maintenance did fix the issues in our second room. The lady on the phone was not helping me at all and I paid $900 for 2 nights when rooms were $310 per night because of all the fees and parking was $40 per night plus parking fees, and we did not even get what we paid for. Very disappointing. Would not recommend. City view was just a view of space needle. Rooftop was not impressive, lady on the phone argued with me and tried to tell me I was wrong and couldn’t tell me why the room didn’t match the description of the room I paid for. Rooms were dirty. Bad customer service. Not impressed. Too overpriced. Also walls were paper thin and you could hear people stomping all night and walking and traffic...
Read moreWe stayed here for two nights this past weekend (Friday and Saturday) for a show at Climate Pledge Arena. I did the online check-in process and requested a 1:30 check in (early). It said our room would be ready at 3 but then a minute later I got an email that our room was ready and I could proceed to the lobby and get keys. Score! This hotel has a fantastic location, within just a few minutes walk of so many Seattle Center tourist destinations (Space Needle, MoPOP, Monorail, Chihuly Garden & Glass, International Fountain, etc...). We were in a King studio and had a room with an awesome view of the Space Needle (room 710). The room was well laid out and they managed to make the space quite functional. I especially liked that we could rotate the TV sitting in the room divider so that we could watch TV in either the living room or in bed. The small kitchenette had everything we needed for our two day stay. The bed was pretty comfortable. Our room seemed clean. The staff were pretty friendly/ helpful. My only real complaints were very slow and crowded elevators with housekeeping staff often trying to cram their carts in around guests. It's too bad they don't have a service elevator to use. I also paid for the on-site parking garage, which was almost 100% full when we arrived back from an afternoon out around 5PM on Saturday. I got the last "full" spot on P2 next to a wall. The spaces are quite small/ tight with concrete pillars making it hard for giant SUVs and trucks to fit. They really should undersell the parking garage because a lot of the large vehicles took up 1.5 spaces. As a result, I paid $40 per night for parking, plus parking tax AND sales tax, then paid even more to take Lyft everywhere that we didn't walk because I didn't want to leave and lose my spot. That said, the parking garage seemed quite secure and I felt good about leaving my car there. My last complaint was that the sectional in the living room was really hard to lounge on for any period of time because it was so uncomfortable. It was a sleeper sofa so maybe that's why. The cushions are not in good shape. Anyway, none of these complaints would keep me from staying here again because the location was so great and we really had a good time in the area. I attended a Friday night concert alone at Climate Pledge Arena and felt very safe walking back to the hotel at 11PM by myself with all the people out and about. It was an 8 minute walk door to door, with me stopping to take a few pictures along the way. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again to attend a concert or to visit multiple Seattle Center...
