After a long day of driving, we pulled into Shamrock around 2:30 AM. I immediately realized the town was without power. We were all exhausted and needed to get out of the truck for a few hours, so I thought I'd see if the motel would honor our reservation and let us check in. The office was locked, but a lady came out after a few minutes, and was just the sweetest. She got a physical key (key cards wouldn't work) and let us into a room, helped me open the window to get some air in (A/C was out, of course), and made sure we were all settled before saying goodnight to us. It was a little hot, but we grabbed a few flashlights from the truck and a radio and passed out in the comfy beds.
The power came back on a few hours later, and the A/C unit cooled the room quickly. In the morning, we got to fully appreciate how clean the room was (we had done the normal check by flashlight before falling asleep; I'm always very cautious about bed bugs and check well). The water pressure in the shower was great. The room was large, with a microwave, mini fridge, dresser, and a couple night stands. And the room had 3 queen-size beds! I don't think I've ever seen that before, but my teenage boys were grateful to have their own space.
Overall, for $68 for 3 beds for the night, it blew motels/hotels I've paid twice as much for out of the water. Clean, roomy, pleasant, and the woman who checked us in was so helpful, worked with what was going on beautifully, and went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. Saw there was a laundry in with the ice machine, but didn't get to check it out. We live 1,000 miles away but go through Texas about once a year. From now on, we'll skip Amarillo with its high prices and constant construction, and stay in this hidden...
Read moreThis is the best-maintained independent motel I've ever stayed in, possibly the best-maintained motel of any kind. The building is old - or more aptly, vintage - but has been thoughtfully remodeled with love and care. I really should have taken some pictures but we slept very soundly after a late arrival and were rushing to get out. They removed the bathtub and tiled the whole bath, so there's a full-sized shower (it's a small bathroom and probably felt cramped with the tub, now it feels modern.) New fixtures throughout the room, with fresh paint, caulk, and grout. They also wired a light fixture and electrical outlets into the wall on each side of the bed. Mini fridge with a little freezer, microwave, flat screen TV mounted to the wall, great cable (well, by my standards, which just means they had TCM.) I won't tell you what I paid, because I think they should raise their rates at least a little, but I will tell you it was by far the cheapest room this entire three-week trip. And perhaps best of all, the owners were cheerful and welcoming when we arrived at midnight. 10/10 could not be more pleased, WILL STAY AGAIN!!! If only more places were even half...
Read moreI have been meaning to leave this review for quite some time. My son and I were driving back from Utah to Georgia and pushed ourselves as far as we could drive eventually landing here, at the Blarney Inn - Shamrock, TX. Going against worries from family that I shouldn't pick a cheap motel, I was just too tired to care. We showed up late, expected to be greeted by a wildebeast that sleeps on a bed of razor blades; instead we were warmly greeted, given keys to our room and asked if we needed anything to make our stay more comfortable. I wholeheartedly expected to get what I paid for here - a semi-clean room and a bed you kick the sheets off of in favor of your own. The door opened, lights were on, the room was immaculate. Really a no frills room but it had the necessities and despite the crazy wind and cold outside it was nice and toasty. Angie was the person at the front desk and she was very accommodating throughout the few days we were there. Don't give this motel a second thought; if you are just passing through you will be...
