My husband and I were on a cross-country road trip and decided to try staying in an old-style Route 66 motor court, so we chose the Shamrock Country Inn. We had a delightful stay! Let’s be clear: this is not a luxury hotel. But for a basic roadside motel, it’s a swell place to stop on a road trip. Our room was clean and fairly spacious; the beds were comfortable; the water pressure in the shower was good; and the location was just far enough off Route 66 to be quiet and afford us a good night’s sleep. The solid construction of the building contributed to the quiet. The exterior of the building is well-kept, and everything has been recently painted, with the Texas star on the outside of every room’s door. The rooms are equipped with old-fashioned wall heaters and A/C units; we stopped here in October, so they were sufficient for our needs. The buildings form a “U” around a paved parking area for cars and trucks right in front of the rooms; there is also a central gravel area for semis or larger vehicles. The night we stayed there, many of the rooms were occupied, and this seemed to be a favored stop for hunters. Wi-fi is available and free, but outdated by current security standards, so we did not use it. There is a breakfast room, with all the usual offerings; there are limited hot food selections, but they do have a waffle maker. Breakfast is included in the price of the room, which is already a great deal. The proprietor was very courteous, and check-in and check-out were extremely fast and efficient. It’s just a 10- to 15-minute walk to Rusty’s (a GREAT place for dinner) and the U Drop Inn Café (known from Disney’s “Cars”) on the corner of Route 66. We truly enjoyed our stay at the Shamrock Country Inn and will definitely stop here again on our next trip through the...
Read moreI promised the owner once I settled I would review his wonder little inn. So as promised here you go! This family loves what they do and you can totally tell! I was in the middle of relocating from Columbus, OH to Las Vegas, NV. This is actually our second stay there the first was about 6 years ago while relocating from Las vegas to Nashville. So I already knew it was an absolute nastalgic little inn. Even though it was old it was well cared for at that time, so I hoped the same for this stay. I was not disappointed! But besides the inns nastalgic charm the owner is beyond amazing. I was so incredibly behind schedule I was not able to make it to the hotel till 8 am. When I gave them a call to let him know I was running late for check in and may not arrive till about 2 am, he said no worries I will be here when you arrive. Shortly afterwards I had an accident with my uhaul trailer! I had to wait hours on the side of the road with my 2 minor children , one adult child and my 4 month old granddaughter. When I was finally able to clear up the accident I called and told him I would still like to come and shower maybe nap a few hours before I headed out again as I was the only driver. He agreed without hesitation and said that customer service comes first! This is astounding ! Shamrock inn you don't know how appreciate you are. I am a firm believer in shopping with the locals instead of big business whenever possible, places like this is the reason why. Especially since covid little business are struggling to stay open. He could have easily said no, and charged me the night as stipulated when booking. Thank you a thousand times over ! May God continue bless...
Read moreDo yourself a favor and stay at this awesome motel. Here are the reasons why:
You pull right up to the office and the nicest man smiles and greets you as you walk in after a long day of travel.
After a smooth and pleasant check-in, you open the door to your room and the first thing you notice is it’s big and smells so clean. The bed is soft and comfy with plenty of blankets.
You decide to take a shower and are surprised, in a good way, at the nice heat and the perfect water pressure. You stay in a little longer.
You set the AC temp to 72 and float away to dreamland for 8 hours straight.
You make sure you wake up before 9 so you don’t miss the free breakfast. You walk by the nice owner and he warmly greets you with "good morning, how did you sleep?"
As you gather your things before checkout at 11, you can’t help but think “how is a place like this only $60 a night?”
You’re so pleased with your experience you make sure to tell the owner thank you for everything several times before driving off on down historic Route 66 on a rainy Sunday morning. And you can’t wait to write this review when you get to your destination.
Highly recommend. Will definitely be coming back next time we’re in Texas. Clean, affordable, safe and just great vibes from this...
