Extremely Disappointed in Our Stay at THE SPARK by Hilton – Shepherdsville, KY
I feel compelled to share the extremely disappointing experience my family and I had while staying at THE SPARK by Hilton in Shepherdsville, KY—especially since we’re here due to flooding and power outages, already under stress.
At 1:00 AM, the fire alarms went off because someone was smoking in their room. This alone was disruptive enough, but the behavior of the front desk employee made the situation far worse.
While evacuating with three small children, one of whom was barely dressed due to the abrupt alarm, the front desk worker was cold, unhelpful, and downright disrespectful. She laughed at me when I told her our room key didn’t work (a key that was knowingly given to us), and offered only a sarcastic “sorry” while slamming her office door in my face mid-sentence.
She continued yelling from her office, mocking me while I tried to stay calm and focus on my family. I asked her multiple times to stop speaking to me and simply help resolve the issue. Instead, she taunted and talked over me, clearly trying to provoke a reaction.
To make things even worse, when I called the front desk during the alarm to ask if it was a real fire and whether we needed to evacuate, she told me she wasn’t sure. No guidance, no reassurance—just confusion from the very person responsible for helping guests in an emergency. Thankfully it wasn’t a real fire, because she was no help at all.
And as if that wasn’t enough, when I asked if anyone had turned in a pacifier—because my baby was screaming uncontrollably—her response was to laugh and say, “You probably should have an extra.”
Now it’s past 2:00 AM and my children are still wide awake, anxious, and uncomfortable. This is not just bad service—this is negligent, unprofessional, and unacceptable.
In the middle of a hotel evacuation, my 4-month-old was screaming — alarms blaring, chaos everywhere. That staff member loudly said, “Guessing you still didn’t find that paci,” as if I wasn’t already doing everything I could.
My babies were pulled out of sleep into confusion and fear — any child would cry. But to mock that? It was heartbreaking.
I will be contacting Hilton corporate and requesting to speak with someone higher up. Due to me reaching out to the GM sherry and being ignored. Then her daughter finding me on Facebook and laughing at the awareness post I made. Very strange things going on here. I do not want a refund or a rain check—I want accountability. No family, especially one already displaced by a natural disaster, should be treated this way.
I’m sharing this experience so others can be warned about the lack of care and decency at this location.
What was supposed to be a safe, reliable place for our family turned into one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve ever had. We will never return, and I sincerely hope...
Read moreWe chose this place for our stay to go on Kentucky Bourbon Tour. Should we go back, we will not be staying here. There was a bit of an odd smell to the hotel, almost like they were trying to cover another smell or whatever they are using to freshen up the place was a horrible choice. We were on the first floor with a king size bed. The rooms looked a bit dated as they used base window air conditioning. It took a while to cool down room but once cooled it stayed quite cold like we like it but the weather was in the upper 50s at night and 70s during the day so it wasn’t that hard to cool down. The bathroom was tiny and the shower was like taking a shower in a wood paneling closet and not much room to move around. To me, the bed was like sleeping on a park bench. Very little cushion and by the end of our stay, we couldn’t wait to get back to our comfortable bed as our back and necks were killing us. I complained to the front about the quality of the bed and they told me they had just been replaced the previous week. Don’t know who their manufacturer is but I think they need to find a new one. When paying $135 a night (which I know isn’t considered a quality hotel), I can deal with less room comfort but for goodness sakes, please get comfortable mattresses. When we are there, we are there to sleep and deserve a good one. The last two nights we had to deal with what appeared to be small boys and girls baseball/softball teams who were in town. For two straight nights it was nothing but loud, yelling rambunctious kids from 9 pm to almost midnight. Their “breakfast” was not a breakfast. It was choice of bagels with cream cheese, muffins in a bag, juices from a machine, or yogurt. We will not...
