I stayed 5 nights at this property to visit a friend. Very small room, bed was incredibly uncomfortable. Never had breakfast because pans were always empty, but I did enjoy the chocolate milk. I had put in my preferences to have the room cleaned every other day, not once was the room cleaned during my stay of 5 nights. I had to empty trash cans and collect fresh towels daily. Each time I went to the front desk (for anything) it was a guaranteed 15 to 20 minute wait. There is no bell or anything to get their attention and they sit in the office in the back not paying much attention to the front desk. Once I finally got someone to assist me with getting towels they treated me like I was trying to steal their towels or something and didn't give me clean washcloths or hand towels and made me show my key to prove I was a guest. Just two towels for 4 more nights. This made me have to go down daily for my 20 minute wait for towels and the 3rd degree about why I needed more towels. One morning I decided I wanted to do a load of laundry. Went to front desk for my 20 minute wait just to find out they don't have any way to give customers change for the laundry room. I had to leave the property to go find a place to give me change to use the washing machine. Got everything in the washer and it soaked my clothes with water and completely stopped working. I had to go back to the front desk for another long wait for them to say "huh someone must have taken the out of order sign off of the washing machine " wait what! Why didn't you warn me of this when you knew I was trying to get change to use it! I had to ask for a trash bag (because no solutions were offered) to put my sopping wet clothes in so I could carry heavy wet bag to the car so I could leave yet again to go find a laundry mat on vacation. No apologies or any sort of assistance was offered. The last day of my stay the computers crashed and no one could use their room keys at all. I was advised to leave a shoe or something to keep the door propped open so I could get in and out. What!!! That's not safe! But that was the only option if we had to leave our rooms. It's 9 am two hours before check out, I load my car and go back in to make sure I have everything, one last double check. There was a man in regular clothes who I actually saw outside smoking while I was loading my car in my room. (Again because we were all instructed to keep our doors propped open). I was scared ran out and ran downstairs to the front desk. Surprise, surprise no one ever came to help. Other customers were standing in line frustrated because they hadn't been helped and I didn't know what to do. The other guests and I waited and waited no one ever came, the other guest agreed to go up with me to see if this gentleman was in fact still in my room and he was gone. I checked my room and left! Not an hour after I left I get an alert that they charged me an extra $275 for smoking in the room, even though I never smoked in the room! That's NOT something I would ever do and it was their word against mine, I felt so angry and stuck. I have worked in the hospitality industry and I know better! When I tried to call them to discuss the issue Rhonda was very rude and unprofessional about the whole situation, refused to return my calls and kept telling me I was lying. She also informed me that it's normal for their housekeepers to wear plain clothes (not uniforms) and just walk into your room before you are done with it. She also told me I was lying about a scary black man in regular clothes being in my room before I checked out! If the housekeepers would have came in every other day to clean like they were supposed to they would have known the smoke wasn't coming from my room!!! Luckily I know my rights and got the bogus charge taken off through disputes (no help from them). I don't recommend this hotel, there are lots of hotels in the area I would definitely look into other properties. This one is a joke! Definitely not the Marriott standard that I am used to. Very disappointing, I will NEVER...

Let me first say, that everyone I spoke to in person or over the phone was courteous and respectful, but ultimately were unhelpful and passed the buck to the next person. I have over 40,000,000 views on my post, I've traveled the world, and the lack of compassion from this hotel is very telling. Traveling from New York to Smithfield, North Carolina was a journey. My aunt who is a noted figure in that community, passed away just before her 99th birthday and has a building named after her in that community. Traveling on American Airlines, I arrived at Regan National Airport š« My flight AA flight 5224 was delayed on May 8th. When passengers finally boarded, we sat on the tarmac for 2 hours before being told our flight to Raleigh was canceled due to weather. However, because it was a weather-related cancelation, the airline was not responsible for compensating travelers for an overnight stay and the time was late at this point. American Airlines suggested I go to Pittsburgh, and try to get out the next day. Instead, I found a place to stay in DC and got a ride. My cousin had a car rental reservation and every single car was rented out, and after he was directed to go to a car rental establishment, 10 miles away, and after going there, he was told that no vehicles were available. Arriving in Smithfield, I realized I was at the wrong hotel from my family, and my cousin didn't have transportation because we had planned to travel together.
The Fairfield
I go to the Fairfield Hotel and talk to the lady at the front desk. I didn't give her all the details, but I did relay the info about being at the wrong hotel and asked if it was OK to cancel, assuming that I wouldn't be charged the cancelation fee. She was like "No problem" and canceled my reservation. At 5:22 am the next day, I got a notification of a charge from the hotel. I called the hotel around 7 AM and spoke to Anthony, he instructed me to call back after 8 AM. I call after 8 AM and speak to a woman. She tells me to call on Monday and ask for Rhonda, the daytime manager. I called and this is what she said. "We are not required to tell people that when they cancel they will be charged". I knew it was in the email I received, that's why I personally went to the hotel to explain my circumstances. Rhonda then told me that there was nobody that I could talk to, above her position, because it was her job to tell people about the company policy. I ended by saying, that I understood she was just doing her job, but that I would be writing a negative review of the hotel and said thank you. The bottom line is this, I was aware of the policy because I read the entire email, but after I spoke with the front desk, and personally took the time to travel to the hotel to explain my situation, I assumed that the clerk was not going to charge the cancelation fee because of our conversation. I was just lucky that I even made it to Smithfield to attend the funeral and would have stayed at the hotel if I had been told that the fee would not be waived. I would have been satisfied if the hotel had the Fairfield compromised with me and split the cost and charged me half. But as I said before, everyone was polite and respectful, but no compassion whatsoever for the situation. I was told the justification for the charge, is the hotel could have rented the room to someone else. Maybe, but from the looks of the parking lot, it didn't look full to me. Unless I have no other option, I will never stay at another Fairfield Hotel, and I suggest you -Joe Public do the same. Was there a policy, yes, but there's also, just doing the right thing! I doubt very much, that anybody would have been able to offer and could prove all the obstacles I encountered this past weekend from canceled flight, to no car rental, I felt bad for the international travelers who were on my flight. Glad I was able to make the funeral service but lessen learned. I hope this review is helpful, beware of dealing with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe people who accept this hotel and its standards will accept anything that comes along with it. Some of these reviews these folks may not know what it's like to be in a great Hotel like five star or someplace where you pay anywhere from $200 to $400 a night. My husband was a MLB player their team use marriott. It was always the Courtyard. I stayed at this Fairfield dump and it's a trailer trash hotel. It belongs in a trailer park. My bathroom was never cleaned at check in on 4/25 hair & urine on the floor. someone left their bacteria used soap in the bathroom. I sprayed my Lysol everywhere. Mattress was the worst I had ever slept on. I don't even sleep on the sheets I take a cocoon case with me when I sleep. I don't use their pillows, I take my own silk pillow covers. I pulled out a stool to sit on, two wheels missing from the bottom and I was so startled I slipped. I spoke to the staff told them to get it out of there before someone seriously injures themselves. They never sent anyone to remove that broken stool from the room. TV wobbled like a seesaw. I've stayed there in the past. I will never stay there again. I am a Hilton Honors member and they accepted me and told me to come very quickly and they will set me up in a room for two nights. I checked out of the Fairfield due to some crazy family with three lunatic children in room 426. I was right below them. they had what seemed like a rugby game going on in the room. Yelling and running. I know some noise is expected but these people acted like animals. Their mother heard me complaining in the lobby that I will be moving out immediately and the staff tried to talk me out of it. I immediately was told by woman "oh my kids aren't making any noise stomping". I said what room are you in? She said 426 I said "exactly you can come to my room and hear it they're above my head and I'm out of here", furthermore I don't have anything to say to you". I actually called the police and they talked to me on the phone, told me that I really need to notify the corporate. I did a two-page email to the GM at the Fairfield and she probably won't even get back to me. I am giving her one week and then I will be calling the Better Business Bureau and posting something on that. I will also be notifying the health department. Everyone who's ever had a bad experience at this hotel you need to start a paper trail and notify the local health department I beg of you to do that. When I called there on April the 28th the clerk wouldn't answer the question when I asked was GM there or when will she be in. As I was leaving, there was an elderly woman at the Fairfield to check in. When they heard what was happening in my room and they found out they were going to get my room they immediately left the Fairfield. I had no idea I would end up seeing them in the lobby of the Hampton Hilton where I ended up for my last two nights. The Marriott ought to be ashamed of themselves for having their name on this building . They were unprofessional but Ms. Delsy did very good work trying to get these people to stop the noise above my head. Those children behave like animals and what's even worse when I was leaving their Pappy was flipping the bird to me as I walked to my car. Now we see how those children will turn out just like their so called dad. Sorry about any typos or missing capital letters. I was in a hurry just to get this review posted. They either need to blow that hotel up or move it to a trailer park or do a complete overhaul. I would never want to work there and have my name attached to the hotel. Furthermore I used to work at a gorgeous Hilton Hotel for years ago. Enjoy my post people and if anyone is posting good things about that hotel either they were paid to do it or they just settle for anything which I do not do. I don't mind paying $200 or more a night at a hotel because it's well worth it. I don't get people anyone who does not give a 1 out 5 (as a matter of fact I would love to give it a zero) you don't know good hotels and that means you will settle...
