I have been going to this establishment since I was a junior in high school. This has been my favorite restaurant literally for the past 8 years. Recently, I walked in after placing my order over the phone. There was a rather large line so I waited for a few minutes before walking up to the front just to ask if there was any way I could grab my food really quick. Before I even get a word out, the female who works the cashier literally yells," UM...YOU NEED TO GET BACK TO THE BACK OF THE LINE." Being very surprised and taken aback, it takes me a moment to even ask," Even if I ordered over the phone? I'm just-" and that was all I was able to get out. She then continues to DEMAND that I "stop trying to cut everyone." Being a business owner myself, this level of customer service has permanently severed myself from this place of business. After being talked/yelled at like that in front of at least a dozen other customers, unfortunately I will never be returning. It's a shame, really. I cannot express how disrespected I felt by the restaurant I've been a loyal customer of for 8 years. Worst part, I know even if I told the manager, I know they wouldn't do anything. I've seen the same cashier talk on her phone while taking peoples' orders and getting them completely wrong, and then getting an attitude with the customer when they bring it up. Thanks, Yummi Japan, for throwing away one of your most frequent and long-term customers because some girl with zero tact and manners is the one interacting with customers.

Read moreI usually go to New Japan for my Hibachi chicken fix, but the nearest one, from my Smithfield location, is in Garner, so I thought I'd try Yummi Japan. I won't bother going there again. For starters, their white sauce tastes awful (like Thousand Island) and I was really looking forward to the white sauce (New Japan in Durham has the best). The Hibachi chicken must have been sitting out for a while and got old and hard. Never like that at New Japan in Durham. Only five scallops in the chicken and scallops entree? I know because I cut each one in half to go farther - wonder how many I would have gotten if I had ordered it alone? Plenty of old dry chicken to make up for the loss, I guess. The sticky rice and the fresh cooked veggies were the only things I enjoyed, when it wasn't ruined by the "white" sauce. There was too much rice, IMO, but I can always use that as a side dish for another dinner. Apparently, these other reviewers never ate at a New Japan (off of Miami Blvd., Durham, NC) because if they had, they would know what I'm talking about. Next time I'm going to check the Garner New Japan out to see if they are as good as the Durham one - but not Yummi Japan - first...
Read moreSaturday trip to strip mall, decided on lunch here.
It's not really a "restaurant", per se.
Food looked interesting on menu board.
Wife ordered hibachi shrimp and scallops plus seaweed salad.
I got hibachi steak.
Taste was bland, near flavorless for both. Kind of disappointing meals, half the tray were "fried rice".
"Fried rice" was nothing more than stir fried rice flavored with soy sauce, nothing else...no onions, no eggs, NOTHING.
Both of our order was nothing more than "steak" for mine, shrimp and scallop for hers with same exact veggies in both: stir fried zucchini(?), onions and mushrooms.
Can't believe they got 100 on sanitation rating? NEVER seen a "restaurant" with 100 before, not even in high end restaurants in Vegas, with water stained ceiling tiles and flies.
VERY disappointed with tasteless food, made me more aware of rest of the place to note discrepancies in their rating.
Will not return again...if it's any consolation, the seaweed...
