Nice little place. Landscaping is horrid, but we're not sleeping outside. However, we were checking in at 8 pm after golfing at a nearby course. Informed them we were checking in at 8 pm and when it came time to check in we sat in the parking lot for 40 minutes waiting for someone to answer the 2 phone numbers that are on the front door for late check in. It was odd because at first it went directly to voicemail to a phone that voicemail hasn't been set up yet. Then after a couple attempts, it rang a couple times then hung up. Another time it would ring 4-5 times then hang up. So we knew we were simply being ignored and they were sending us to voicemail. We were getting ready to leave when someone finally called back and text us the door code to get in. We were told that "after 7 pm it's my family time". And we were made to feel like we were the ones who have created this inconvenience. With today's technology, send the door code in an email after the stay is confirmed or at least prior to arrival. Very simple fix.
Along with the $375.00 one night stay, which we waited for well over 40 minutes to even check in. With the stay, I purchased the rise and shine coffee, OJ and baked goods that were supposed to arrive between 7:30 am and 8 am.
Never showed up.
Usually at a B&B the hosts are very attentive and friendly. I have stayed at several of them here in South Haven and this ranks last among the 10 I've stayed at. Maybe I'm just cranky because I haven't had my morning coffee that was supposed to be delivered, but you will get better service if you stay at an Econo Lodge
Never coming back and would...
Read moreLooks like a dream, feels like a shrug — style over substance at Yelton Manor I booked Yelton Manor with high hopes, dazzled by its near-perfect 9.8 rating on Booking and charming aesthetic. The house itself is a gem — think lovingly curated sitting rooms straight out of a magazine, perfect for curling up with a book or pretending you're in a Nancy Meyers film.
But beneath the polished surface, the experience quickly fell flat. We were promised drinking water on arrival, only to find the guest fridge consistently empty. When you're paying premium rates, “just drink the tap water” (chlorinated, by the way) isn’t exactly the welcome I had envisioned.
Our room? Darling. Immaculately clean, wonderfully comfortable bed — credit where it’s due. Sadly, that was where the hospitality seemed to end. Breakfast was... peculiar. A self-serve coffee bar with no coffee (or mugs), and a host who reluctantly fetched some with the energy of someone deeply inconvenienced by a guest's existence.
The actual breakfast was a minimalist masterpiece, if you're into that sort of thing: a single slice of toast wearing a whisper of avocado, two cherry tomatoes, micro greens, two eggs, a modest scoop of fruit, and the ambiance of being a bother. Salt, pepper, sauce, or even a simple “is everything alright?” — apparently too extravagant.
Interacting with staff felt less like staying at a B&B and more like interrupting someone's afternoon. If you’re not up for hosting, perhaps hosting isn’t the calling.
We polished off our meager plates and went elsewhere to feel human (and full). The building may be warm and inviting — shame the...
Read moreOur first visit to South Haven. I booked rather late but found prices for Yelton Manor to be comparative to others and similar to Hampton Inn. We aren't usually bed-and-breakfast types and this was only our second bed-and-breakfast experience. Located a block from Lake Michigan, and easily walkable to a small beach. As others have mentioned, it looks a bit time-worn. However, our room was clean and charmingly decorated, if that's your thing! Rooms are all different. Many little nooks to enjoy coffee, a snack and many books to dip into. Choose your room wisely; there are stairs to climb if you choose other than ground floor. At times difficult to have needs addressed. You are to call a phone number but we tried several times and the phone hung up after four rings. Breakfast was good but the same three choices during our stay. A small fridge has water, juices and coffee creamer, but no place if you have leftovers to store or reheat. (This is stated on their website but good to know.) A place to hose off sandy feet and deposit beach towels; that was nice. Easily walkable to a couple of beaches and the downtown area. Lots of cute shops and places to eat. Around the corner a small store with sundries available and delicious ice cream. Also a place nearby to rent beach chairs and umbrella. Being an avid gardener, I was disappointed with the landscaping. Lots of weedy plants and very unkempt. Simplify the landscaping and it could look very inviting and mean a lot less work for someone. I would recommend it, we...
