One of two of my shopping experiences with Books A Million was a easy going (Dec 20, 2024) pleasant delight. The young lady Stephanie was so helpful and knowledgeable. She found what I needed and had it on hold for me upon my arrival. Once I got there, Krystal checked me out with no problem. And I was on my. The other visit (Dec 23, 2024) was a test of all the customer's patience to get through the checkout line. One of the young ladies at the register that night was trying to get membership sign ups. And stated that's what they trained her to do. Push customers to the point where they feel forced to join the discount club. What was a problem was she would tell you, you only have to pay $8 and 10% off your purchase. Then it turns out to be $25....... All the while, holding people up who apparently had other places to go 2 days before Christmas. I do still recommend Books A Million because they are very kind and do their best to assist you. I'm just not feeling the idea of them training the cashier(s) to force you into...
Read moreUpdate (after going to new store): They changed. The vibe now sucks. Totally different. I'm removing a star.. gave it 4 at first. No Joe Muggs at all! No chairs that I can find. This is no longer a bookstore for people who love books. Cannot, I repeat, cannot get lost in here on a rainy day. The selection even looks dumbed down. Where are the larger history, biography, psychology, new age, reference, political science sections? Just mostly fiction, kids stuff, and aisles of religious books now. What the entire what!!!???!!! This is the Wal-Mart of bookstores. But... know your market I'm assuming. They must have been responding to sales. Either way, this won't be my store of choice anymore. What kind of bookstore has no seats for you to peruse books??? Downvote!!!
Always courteous, super helpful and knowledgeable.... they just moved to old hancock fabrics bldg. Have to get over there soon. Needed more tables and chairs throughout older location. Great coffee too. Good sales. ...
Read moreI went in the store today to exchange a book. I told the gentleman behind the counter what I needed to do and proceeded to get the book I needed. When I returned he told me a manager would have to do it- not a problem. He called for the manager and I waited for over 10 minutes for someone to come up front. The manager had to be called twice and I heard her tell her employee I would just have to wait. While I waited I heard her employees say the managers do not care about the customers and were amazed at how they treated people and what they got away with. The lady who was sent up to help me- finally- was kind and apologized but stated she was not a manager. Regional management needs to step in and train their managers and employees in good...
