Please don't think that I am stereotyping or slurring anyone. I simply don't do that, nor do I tolerate it from others. I'm referring to something that is a cultural thing:
For some reason, I have never experienced a motel or hotel owned by Middle Eastern or South Asian folks that was just okay.
Most are reasonably well maintained with a few corners cut. They usually are immaculately clean, have great staff; and provide excellent, friendly service. Those are the good ones.
The bad ones, a minority, but unfortunately not at all uncommon, are poorly maintained, especially when it comes to anything that costs much to repair. Housekeepers are required to service so many rooms that it is impossible for the most dedicated housekeeper to do an adequate job of cleaning and deep cleaning seldomly is done. They also tend to pay the least, thereby getting the employees that nobody else wants. Management tends to have an attitude in these hotels. They operate as if the best way to make money is to spend as little as possible because guests usually only are there one time. Theirs is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Unfortunately, this Super 8 is one of the latter. It's maintained poorly. The sink was cracked and the ceiling tile where the light and exhaust was in the bathroom was badly damaged and did not fit into place. Two sides sat on top of the metal grid rather than inside it. I appreciated being able to get a smoking room, but the room still was carpeted and the carpet had many cigarette burns. A simple, inexpensive update to a vinyl, tile, or laminate floor would bring the room into the 21st century and solve the problem with burns.
Maintenance is done throughout the night, making the place extremely busy when added to the noise from a great many construction folks who work late and go to work at 5:00 or 6:00 in the morning.
There were construction workers hanging around drinking beer outside.
The single worst thing and the most unforgivable was the rudeness of what I believe is the owner. We stayed here for two months a couple of years ago and have stayed several other times. The staff has always been incredibly friendly and helpful. This joker thinks he is someBODY. I went to pay to stay for an extra day and this rascal told me that I would have to leave the room while it was being cleaned. I said that I always sit in the corner of a room that is being cleaned and ask to have the door left open. He told me that I could come and sit in the office if I wished. I told him that I have servere COPD and the room was at the back of the property. He could see that I was out of breath from walking up there. I was not rude, nor did I even show annoyance. I was being careful to behave toward him in the way that he should behave toward guests. I wasn't even particularly assertive. When I asked why I had to leave the room, he showed that he has no customer service skills. The weakest thing one can do is to tell a customer, "It's our policy." This translates to, "There is no reason, it is just a policy." I told him, calmly and politely, that that was a terrible answer. He never batted an eye and said, "You can check out." I asked again what the reason was. He said, "It's for the safety of our employees and you." First, what he told me was a lie. He wasn't worried that the sweet young housekeeper was going to do me harm. What he truly meant was that he was afraid that I would harm her. I won't put up with that kind of insult. A couple of decades ago, I would have demanded that he retract his statement or come outside to discuss the matter.
I was quite ill and we were only staying for one more day, so we didn't leave immediately. We will, however,...
Read moreI had a two-day meeting in Fayetteville and dinner plans in Bentonville so I stayed half-way between at the Super 8. Most everything about my stay was great. The lady at the desk was very friendly and she let me check in a little earlier than 3 pm. I reserved a handicapped king room so I could be on the ground floor. It had been renovated and was quite clean, except the carpet needed a shampoo. The room was equipped with a 3.1 CF mini fridge with a freezer, a microwave, iron and ironing board, and hair dryer. A washing machine, dryer, and ice maker were near by. The king-sized bed in my room was very comfortable, which my bad back appreciated. A grab & go breakfast of a small muffin, jello cup, yogurt, and bottled water was available. The A/C was cold but you might need earplugs because it was loud all night. Full cable TV and nice outdoor pool. My car was parked in a space that was right outside my door. The motel is about six miles from the very good Arkansas Food Hall of Fame member, The Venesian Inn, where I dined by myself the first night. As I said, I was solo & am an older female but I felt safe. My only issue is that the room cost $116/night with no known special events in the area. That’s way too much to pay for a Super 8, even a good one,...
Read moreThe beds were like sleeping on Jello and so uncomfortable. The pillows had zero support. I had the handicapped accessible room and honestly, there wasn't a whole lot that was accessible about it. The bathroom was so small I couldn't get my walker in it and there were no grab bars around the toilet. There were grab bars in the bathtub, which are mounted too low if you want to take a shower, but fine if you want to take a bath. You still have to step over the tub to get in, though.
The TV remote didn't work. We had to take it to the office to get it replaced.
This is no fault of the hotel, but the outside noise was horrendous. McDonald's is right next door, which was convenient, but a semi parked in the lot and ran all night while we were trying to sleep. The hotel is right along the main drag, so noise from Sunset was prevalent, as well.
The bagged breakfast was pretty good and the front desk people were pretty nice. The room was also neat and clean.
I think the room was overpriced for what we got, but the taxes and levies on tourism added...
