My mother booked my room here because, out of all the hotels under $100 in the area I needed, it had the most and best reviews. I have stayed at other Candlewood hotels, in other cities, so I kind of knew what to expect room-wise. The gentleman who checked me in was pleasant and explained everything. I did not know about the $35 deposit, but since I did not book the room myself I am not sure if that was mentioned on the website my mom booked from and she possibly overlooked it. He did say the amount was just a hold and would go back to my account after 10 days. I received the refund this evening after checking out this morning. The location was convenient. There are plenty of food joints, and the mall, within walking distance (I arrived on Sunday and didn't get to visit the mall unfortunately.) They don't have a continental breakfast, but they do have a little "store" you can purchase snacks, drinks, and other things from for under $5 each. They also have a cute little "Lending Locker" where you can borrow small kitchen appliances like a blender, crock pot, toaster, etc along with some family board games. I have never seen that before in any hotel I have stayed in and thought it was a neat idea. I wish I could have given them a 5 star rating, but unfortunately my room did have some minor problems. The door to the room's refrigerator would not shut all the way. I checked to make sure nothing was in the way or blocking it, but nothing was. I didn't put anything in it anyways, other than a few cans of Dr Pepper, so it only bothered me because of the light shining, and it made the humming noise louder. I did let the front desk lady know when I checked out, and she wrote everything down and apologized. I also had a few issues of housekeeping not cleaning well enough. The suite I was in had a peninsula type desk connected to the kitchen counter with a dining chair on one side and an office chair on the other. When I was getting ready to eat my dinner, I was going to sit at the desk and pulled out the dining chair to sit down, but the seat on it was covered in red spots of stains from what looked like pasta sauce. These were not stains that had been there a while and previously attempted to be cleaned either. The sauce stains were still globby, like you could have taken a fork or something and scraped them off of the cushion. The office chairs also had a few white stains on it's seat, but they appeared to have been there awhile, or at least rubbed into the fabric more. There was what looked like melted candle wax dripping from the front of the night stand between the two beds, and another red stain on the door of the closet. The room overall was great, aside from these few stains and bits of things that just needed a more thorough cleaning. The bed I used was comfortable, the linens were soft and just the right amount of heaviness that I like. I liked that the shower had 12oz bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash that I could use as much as I wanted of. I have long hair and the travel soaps other hotels provide are never enough. The minor problems I had with my room will not deter me from booking with Candlewood Suites in Texarkana in the future. I look forward to...
Read moreWe had never stayed at a Candlewood Hotel and we travel quite a bit. We were on a long trip from Houston Texas to Erie PA and a reverse trip 3 days later. As it was a longer trip, we decided to break it into several nights. Having decided this, we used a google map to carve out the 4 days that we would be staying overnight. Several of the places we had never passed through before. Staying at the Candlewood Hotel provided us a unique stay. After being greeted, we went to our room, and opened our door to quite a surprise. Not only the normal king bed and chair, and not to forget the TV was there but there also was a complete kitchen for our use during our stay. Wonderful after a long days trip. As we enjoyed our first stay, we decided to stop on the way home. Now that was a surprise but what happened during and after checkout was amazing. I had lost my wallet somewhere between our last stop and the hotel. Nope, my wife happened to use hers at check-in. I found I had lost it about 15 minutes being in the hotel and my first thought was dropping out of the car. I went to the car, no help.. I scoured the parking lot, no help. I asked a few customers, no help. Well, having not known where I lost it, we decided to check one more time after a good nights sleep before we moved on. We notified the front desk just with hope someone would find it and then headed to our next stop and went on our way. Unable to know where it was lost, we took an inventory of what was in the wallet and started calling all the vendors to stop payments. Two days later, I received a call from the hotel indicating my wallet had been found by a staff member. I was asked to identify some of the contents so they could verify I was the true owner. They had found the wallet in a chair which would not have normally been used (I use the bed immediately to plump down on). Obviously this also was an exception for us. We had never checked the chair in our hunt. Upon verification of my being the owner, the wallet was sent to me with a tracking number. A few days later I once again had my wallet and all my contents. I immediately told my wife, Candlewood Hotel is at the top of the list for places to stay if in the area. Not only for the built in kitchen even for an overnight customer but also the pride the hotel should have in their staff for the honestly shown by turning in the wallet. WELL DONE...
Read moreI couldn't be more than thrilled with my interaction with the folks manning the front desk. They couldn't have been more enthusiast and friendly. It was a lovely welcome and that alone made me feel good after a long day's drive. As for the the room, good size, nice layout, no bells and whistles but the rate speaks to the representation of the room. My concern, which was hard to get over and kept me up for most of the night was what I like to refer to as 'surface cleaning' and an off putting bed visual. As soon as I entered the room, the first thing my eye is drawn to is the torn cover nearly touching the ground (it was touching the ground at the middle and elsewhere sporadically). This stunned me as I was puzzled how the hotel still has a metal frame that allows loose items to roll under there than the platform base that most properties use. I lost sleep as my dog played with his ball and it rolled under the bed. I cringed bending on my knees and quickly looking under. It would be near impossible to retrieve something under the bed as the torn cover touches the floor in some areas. It freaked me out and left me wondering what is under there that cannot be accessed by a vacuum cleaner. It was a tough night, platform beds are a must have for this and any hotel. That said, when I was able to get a couple of hours of shut-eye in, the bed was indeed comfortable as were the pillows. Since the room was a little warm upon arrival, I took to the AC unit, and the access door was broken to the point it fell on the floor. When grabbing it, there was a fair amount of dust at the baseboard and a couple of bug carcasses. It wouldn't take much for a solid swipe of the vacuum to make a marked improvement here. Another plus is the acceptance of pets. This was great as I found it difficult to find another local hotel that would accept them at a decent rate. I do have a concern that they charge the rate per day and per pet. At the end of a week, that's a hefty tab. Lastly, in my opinion, if a hotel accepts pets, at the very least, pet stations should be installed around the property. While walking my dogs, the lawn was littered with dog feces. People are lazy, but at the very least if the lack of picking up was due to not having a bag, stocked pet stations would...
