Our stay at Econo Lodge Elmira was nothing short of horrific and absolutely unacceptable. This all began with the swipe of my room key when I was immediately hit with an overwhelming brick wall of think cigarette smell. Every porous surface was soaked with this offensive odor that for certain came to be from years of uncleanliness. Half a bottle of extra strength Febreeze and a few air fresheners later the smell in the room was barely tolerable. This and other cleaning supplies were purchased at your local Walmart. The carpet was clearly not vacuumed, TV console had a layer of dust, the inside of the fridge and microwave were deplorable as evident by spilled food debris that had not been cleaned up in quite awhile. Cob webs cascaded from every corner and one of the wall outlets was out of the wall with the wiring exposed. Said outlet was right next to my roll away bedroom which I will elaborate on later. Moving along to the bathroom area I was met with more filth. There were greasy, black finger prints on the doorway molding. The bathroom wreaked of urine that no amount of Clorox could remove. There was hair in the cigarette burn stained tub. I showered with my flip flops on. It was very clear that the hotel's version of 'cleaning' happened before we entered our room however. This was evident by the decoratively folded end of the toilet paper roll and stock of Econo Lodge branded complimentary toiletries. On top of the presenting filth, the air conditioning unit was not functioning to par as no change would happen with the increase or decrease in the temperature setting on the unit. Uncomfortable with the cleanliness of the bedding, I requested a roll away bed. To no surprise to me the bed was broken. No only did my feet dangle down to the floor through the mattress but the blanket had cigarette burn holes in it. My family and I survived our visit but walked away both shocked and appalled. Checking out the next day when I briefly described our stay to the employee at the front desk we were reimbursed 30% of the room rate for our stay. Maybe because our room was "next to a 'smoking' room" or the fact that 'a maintenance worker had worked on the ac unit immediately prior to our say" were both suggested reasons for the room's condition from the front desk staff. While this was appreciated it in no way made the situation "right". I will never stay at an Econo Lodge in the future and have made certain to share my experience with anyone who...
Read moreRooms weren’t very clean. Water marks and build up/residue on the shower fixtures. blankets had cigarette burns in them. dirty towels hanging on the back of the bathroom door and urine all under the toilet seat. The a/c was off when we arrived. was very hot. once turned on the a/c did not work well. warm was on and made sleeping uncomfortable. Uncomfortable beds. Bad air quality. no roll away cot (which I was required in the app to pay for because of the number of kids) in the room. Employee app was old and that they haven’t had them in over two years (my husband and sister in law saw one thru the window before we left). I was still charged for it and had to call because I was charged for it. The credited me $30 but that would’ve been only 2 nights worth of the charge not 3. In the end they still charged me more than my quote and that quote included the cot. They also didn’t send me a receipt until I requested one after the price discrepancy. I was expecting more of the Continental breakfast based on the website pictures. They only had coffee, juice, cereal, oatmeal, refrigerator omelets, some granola bars and some small pastries. The app and website said they had cookies and popcorn in the afternoons but when I asked they said no and looked at me like I was crazy. They do not have daily maid service which is fine but when I went to the desk to ask for more towels they acted like I was inconveniencing them. As far as security, there was a front door bell and the door room looks worked however no one was ever right at the front desk when we passed by. I guess it wasn’t a huge safety concern but the hospitality was certainly lacking. We only stayed at this hotel because there were no vacancies for this weekend. We were attending my husbands grandfathers funeral service so we couldn’t change dates. We also were visiting his other grandfather who is passing away from cancer. The bad experience certainly didn’t help us as a grieving family. It would’ve been nice of we felt we had more lodging options for when we visit family but we will never return to EconoLodge...
