DO NOT BOOK!
The door wouldn’t open to our room, in another building, upon arrival. So I had to go back to reception to ask for help. Guy seemed to mock me that if both the lights are flashing then of course it’s open and i just need to turn handle and push 👎. I said I did that but it’s not. He eventually said he would come up in just a minute. 12 minutes later he arrives at the room 👎 and agrees that it’s virtually impossible to open without putting whole body weight on it, so we have to then wait for maintenance guy to come resolve. 25 mins of day wasted 👎.
What other people say about general cleanliness is true too. Every time of day there are stinky black bin bags left in the corridors 👎.
There are only plugs on one side of the bed 👎.
Mattress is comfortable, sheets weren’t 100% clean though 👎.
AC works but it’s noisy 👎.
We didn’t touch buttons, let alone set alarm on the cheap clock device and yet 06:00 alarm rang, horrible 👎 👎 👎.
Take shower and there is no body wash, bottle fixed to the wall is completely empty 👎 👎 .
In-room coffee machine doesn’t work 👎 . Keurig machines are dire, but this one I couldn’t get any coffee out of, despite going through multiple cycles of light flashing sequences.
After pre-paying for stay with Expedia, charge for one night on card came to $27.73 👎 when according to the Expedia « taxes and fees » it should have been much less. The check-in woman mentioned the card is for incidentals, not for any fees. I tried to get in touch - I check the email saying « Dear William, Welcome to The Squire at Grand Canyon - Holiday Inn Resort. Thanks for choosing to stay with us. If you need anything during your visit, please don't hesitate to contact us. » and it’s from a no-reply email address 👎 and the person who picks up the phone says there isn’t anyone available for me to enquire...
Read moreIf it weren't for the specific room we were given, this would be a 5 star rating review with nothing but good things to say.
But, we were given room 2124. This room is all alone in the entry corridor of the building we were in - there are no other rooms by it.
This was by far the noisiest hotel room I have ever stayed in in my entire life.
The entry door to the building is less than 5 feet away from this room's window. There were people coming in and going out of this door all night long, with the door slamming shut, and often times wheeling their luggage on the cobblestone walkway right outside our window.
People also congregated and talked right by our door, because it looked like an empty hallway with no rooms. We could hear every word of people's conversations. I really hope Ron and his wife (I didn't catch her name) figured out what to do at 6:15 AM - Ron wanted to go to the Grand Canyon first thing to beat the crowds, while his wife wanted to eat breakfast at the restaurant here at the hotel and go to the canyon a little later.
But the pièce de résistance was the fact that the ice machine was directly across from our door. I could literally touch the ice machine with one hand and our door with the other. People get a lot of ice at all hours of the night. And people going to the Grand Canyon early (like 4 AM - 7 AM) get even more ice. Have you ever noticed how loud an ice machine is when it is used?
Needless to say we got zero sleep to be ready for our one day at the Grand Canyon.
There is no way we have been the first guests to stay in this particular room, and I am 100% sure other guests have complained about the noise in this uniquely located room. Please, for the sake and sanity of future guests, DO NOT ever give out...
Read moreOn arrival, our check-in took a full hour, where a huge line piled up, because we had booked through Expedia and they had lost the reservation in their system, luckily we had the booking confirmation, but was a huge inconvenience, and we were supposed to get two rooms together and got two rooms on different floors instead.
The rooms were clearly recently renovated, and look nice, important in Arizona, the air conditioners in both of our rooms were very old and didn't work well at all. Hot!!
A high degree of care was not taken when setting up the rooms for our stay. We were promised complementary waters that we were not given. All the bathroom dispensers were at most half full, and the body wash was empty on arrival. The blinds in my room were messed up, it was all stuck up in the roller thing at the top, I like to fix things so I got it working, but it breaks easily, and should have been checked and fixed before our arrival.
After housekeeping came through, they did not refill any of the bathroom things, nor the coffee station. The coffee station also for some reason had 3 decafs and only 1 regular coffee.
Finally, the walls were pretty thin, as there was always a lot of noise from the adjacent rooms.
I also thought my first floor room felt like a basement, and the cement brick style felt more like a prison or grade school than a nice hotel.
Besides the rooms, the lobby was beautiful, the staff were kind, and the pool area was very nice, with both an indoor and outdoor pool and hot tub, that are adjacent so you can go between all of them. The arcade and bowling alley bar area was very fun, lively and popular. Good...
