Every time I visit the Grand Canyon, which has been numerous times, my husband & i stay at the Red Feather Lodge. We have never been disappointed, which is why we come back. We stayed there recently, on Wednesday, August 6th. This review is on the young man, Marion, who checked us in at the front desk. KUDOS to him for the EXCELLENT customer service he gave me. If I could give him more than 5 stars, I definitely would. Many more!! I'm a stickler when it comes to customer service, especially nowadays when you don't find it much anymore. Not the case with Marion. I had 3 front desk people to choose from & I truly believe the universe pointed me to him. He greeted me with a smile, a "how are you doing today" & i could see & hear his genuine caring for me "the guest". Since they weren't busy at the time, we were able to have a very nice conversation. Considering that he was a lot younger than me, I'd say maybe early 20's & I'm 71, i enjoyed the fact that yes, two generations so far apart could have an interesting talk like we did. One thing led to another & he told me that he was Navajo. I asked him questions & it was a delight to hear about his culture & the fact that he started learning early in life what's important & what's not. Lots of young people don't feel that way. I told him that no matter what, never, ever forget where his roots are planted. No matter what people may say to him to always hold true to his culture's ways. Nowadays, in a world where some parents do not teach their children the "right" way to be, it's a blessing to hear about Marion's life. I hope the powers to be at the Lodge appreciate the fact that I, a returning guest, enjoyed my experience with Marion as the one who checked me in. Please let him know about this review. I'm sure it will warm his heart & make him feel great. Sometimes companies neglect to tell their employees about reviews. :( If you choose employee of the month, at the Lodge, I vote for Marion. :) Also, last but not least, I loved our clean room & the smiles from the housekeeping & maintenance people we came across. Keep up the great job you are all doing. I totally appreciate each and everyone of you. We shall return. Have a...
Read moreWe live in Arizona and visit Grand Canyon very often and stayed here before with no issue. This time we visited and booked deluxe hotel room just to sleep in the night, late checked in just wished for good night sleep and we were off 4:30 am for sunrise view of Canyons. But the AC was not working at all the whole night I kept playing whole night with buttons on ac unit as well as on wall controller but didn't help. I called the front desk and informed about this to see if they figure out but got the same response that it is controlled from wall. Leave the AC, even the fan on the AC was not running at all, the room was suffocating, there was some mould smell and we couldn't sleep the whole night, we were already tired due to whole day walking in canyon. We had to leave early morning for sunrise , I was so tired and had headache. In the morning when we checked out at 9 am I told the whole thing to lady named Maria on front desk to which she didn't trust and said she had a engineer in the room now he confirms that ac and fan works, she then asked me to follow her to room and she will show me. I went to room and showed her , the engineer was still there and the AC and fan didn't run. She finally agreed to this after wasting so much of time and then offered me a ridiculous 10$ off on the room that I booked for 140$ This was very insulting. I walked out and told her that I won't be back here in future. While I was driving back to home she called me after one hour to say that another senior engineer checked and found that there was an issue in ac unit in the room I stayed in and offered me another 18$ I was really not happy her way of dealing with my issue, not trusting me and offering installments in 10$ back. Instead as a good and honest business you should just refund the money and you will earn much more business. It was a torture to stay in so called "Deluxe" hotel room which was no deluxe at all. I don't know if this is what we had to suffer in Deluxe room, what would be the case in lodge room that are in next building. Also forgot to mention the mattress is like cheap foam, if you have back pain issues...stay miles was...
Read moreWe stayed a few days and had a number of interactions with staff, from the front desk to maintenance and housekeeping. Simply put, my wife and I agreed, that was the best service we have ever received anywhere. Friendly and fast. Had a minor issue with the shower (turned out to be operator error) but the maintenance staff was there in less than five minutes. I am sure we will return to the Grand Canyon and we will certainly stay here. Hospitality is a hard job and you usually run into someone who is unhappy. Not here. My cis ompliments to everyone from the owners on down. The employees are empowered to take care of guests and it really shows. I cannot say enough here.
We really liked the location. It is just outside the park in the nearest very small town. Every business in town is within walking distance. We saw elk by McDonalds. There are a number of small stores that really do a decent job of covering the needs of the massive influx of tourists. There is plenty to do there and people are really friendly. Countless tour opportunities. We didn't want to drive the hour from Williams on a two lane highway so this location was perfect. I cannot imagine making that drive in high season.
Wonderful experience.
Update*. Reading another review prompted something I forgot and that is the lack of continental breakfast. As all the hotels are there, Red Feather Lodge is more expensive than hotels not situated within a few miles of the Grand Canyon. It was $90 a night cheaper than Holiday Inn, my normal go to hotel which was right next door. They do have a continental breakfast, and it is not worth $90. Still, most hotels provide it, other than the Motel 6's of the world, and I definitely noticed it. Given the seasonality of their business, I have no idea if it is fiscally possible to provide. They didn't really seem to have the infrastructure to host it. Perhaps negotiating a better discount at the incredible breakfast all day restaurant next door is an option. I absolutely still thought it was a good value for our money, but just food...
