I normally do not leave reviews, but my experience here was just so unexpected, memorable, and delightful that I feel compelled to! Most of which can be summated with our server's name - Ksusha!
I was recently staying in the area at the nearby Ritz Carlton where my dinner reservations at their "upscale restaurant" had to be cancelled due to a spontaneous conflict with my son's fixation to go to a Cirque du Soleil show. Dinner plans initially turned to disappointment on my part, yielding fully to the opposing delight of my son. It is funny though how fast disappointing situations soon lead to the best experiences.
I have come to find that service is the true experience we seek out in dining places. And it is often an expectation that the experience match the price you pay. Sometimes.. You make reservations months ahead paying thousands for a dining experience to eat at a 4/5 star venue: the food is bland/tasteless, the chef fancying themselves more an artist than a cook, the atmosphere cold and dark, the service is absolutely absent, children are not allowed, and the experience is completely lost. However.. Sometimes.. You stumble upon an unexpected place where the filet with mashed potatoes and lemon garlic roasted broccoli is perfectly seasoned and cooked, the chef is happy to take back the steak cooked medium rather than medium rare, the atmosphere warm - comforting - full of life, and you share an experience with your entire family unlike any other. A place like Founding Farmers where you find the latter experience and it is primarily through the efforts of a complete stranger - all thanks to a young lady named Ksusha.
From the moment I entered the venue and briefly glanced at her laughing/smiling with another family til the moment I left the venue - I do not think she ever stopped laughing or smiling with people around her. She was so positive that I immediately hoped she would be our server. Additionally, she made perfect dinner recommendations on the steak and crop list sides based on knowing so little about my unique preferences. In fact, I left without regretfully wondering whether I could have made a better choice as I typically do at restaurants. I was so content! The dinner and side choice recommendations were PERFECTION! Almost like she could read people while talking to them and know exactly what suited them!
Conclusively, Ksusha was so eager and successful at making my family's dining experience at Founding Farmers a memorable one. She made everyone in my family feel like they were important and valued. I cannot recall having a comparable dining experience, nor coming across an individual so infinitely positive and eager to provide a service and share in an experience with customers. She truly made my family's dining experience at Founding Fathers one worth taking my valuable time to leave a review for.
Thank you so very much Founding Farmers and Ksusha for the great dining experience! You surpassed all of my admittedly high expectations!
If you are in the area, dine here and ask for Ksusha. You wont regret...

Everything Matters
At Founding Farmers, Everything Matters. Nothing is too small. If something can be made better, smarter, healthier, that’s how we want to do it. For us, this means we make everything from scratch from our bread to our booze. We thoughtfully source all of our ingredients. We have active recycling and composting programs that divert about 90% of our waste from landfills. We design and operate sustainable restaurants. We earn LEED and Green Restaurant Association certifications. We started a nonprofit – Our Last Straw – to expand our sustainability efforts beyond the walls of our restaurants. We actively support our neighborhoods and our communities. We grow our people, providing hands-on training, mentorship, and opportunities for continued growth. Our business model, as a farmer-owned company, is designed to ensure American family farmers earn a larger share of the food dollar.
Everything is Personal
For us, Everything is Personal. We are led by restaurateurs, Michael Vucurevich and Dan Simons, in partnership with Mark Watne, farmer and President of the North Dakota Farmers Union, and the more than 50,000 American family farmers who majority own our restaurants. We are a learning organization of like-minded people, individually and collectively committed to creating delicious and sustainable food and drink, an atmosphere of genuine hospitality, understanding and developing our people, and doing the right things for the right reasons. Food and drink are the fuel on which all humans run. Through learning and teaching, we strive to provide this fuel in ways that align with our principles. Our guests take comfort in knowing that we pay attention, so they don’t have to.
Made from Scratch
EVERYTHING we serve, all of our food and drink, is made from scratch in our restaurants. Our Co-Owner Michael Vucurevich (known as Mike V.) and Chef Joe Goetze are continually developing our menus, crafting new and delicious ways to serve our guests, starting with simple, high-quality ingredients. That English muffin? Made in our bakery with North Dakota flour and served with jam, also made here. The burger? All-natural beef, ground daily in our restaurants. Those fries? Yep, made fresh each day from the highest quality potatoes. That ice cream? Hand-churned here. Ginger Soda? Our bartenders are also chefs. We boil and reduce fresh ginger crafting our own ginger syrup. Our booze? That too. We have our own distillery, Founding Spirits, located in the heart of our Nation’s Capital inside one of our restaurants. Our award-winning spirits use all American ingredients harvested by American farmers. Originally created for our restaurant craft cocktails, our spirits are available to enjoy at home, including Founding Spirits Dry Gin, Vodka, three types of rum, and a...
Read moreMy husband and I are definitely fans of Founding Farmers. It is a fantastic farm to table chain originating from North Dakota. We had visited the downtown DC location pre-COVID and the experience was worth the 45 minute wait for a table. The nice thing about the Tysons Corner location is there is ample parking and we smartly made a reservation days of time; so no waiting. I think we could have shown up without a reservation and still been seated promptly, even with coronavirus restrictions, but we knew we were attending a holiday lights event nearby; so just made a reservation to be sure a table was available. The staff were very friendly and helpful with menu suggestions; especially seasonal specials. Our server had a lovely conversation with us and even complimented me on my necklace, which led to a conversation about her friend in Hawaii who makes necklaces like mine, which was awesome because my necklace was hand crafted in Hawaii. On to the food....the craft cocktails we tried were delicous...the chestnut whiskey sour was so good! The Cape Cod spritzer was yummy too. My husband ordered a classic whiskey sour, which is why I ordered the chestnut sour...lol. We ordered the ham and biscuits appetizer. Definitely get it...the hams, biscuits, jams, and mustard are a really good combination of flavors. The biscuits are always delicious, even with out the ham. I ordered the rack of lamb entrée and oh my gosh, if you like lamb get this. They cook the meat to your preference...mine is medium rare. The flavors of this dish are awesome. Just get it, you won't regret it. My husband ordered the prime rib and again, amazing! The meat was cooked perfectly and the ajou sauce really stood put to me because it was really flavorful and thicker than other places we've ordered prime rib from before. If you like prime rib, I'd say Founding Farmers is the best I've ever eaten. Then, not that we needed it, but we ordered a slice of cheesecake and pecan pie for dessert...and our server thought we'd like to try some fresh dark chocolate bark fresh out of the oven. Top that off with some espresso shots and oh my gosh, let's just say I'm glad we were going to be walking around looking at holiday lights for the next couple hours because we were so full. We had an amazing evening at Founding Farmers and plan to comeback soon. Thanks and happy...
