Super 8 by Wyndham Valparaiso — Hotel in Valparaiso

This place was disgusting. We checked in & the first room had coffee spilt on the nightstand & notebook, wrappers on the floor & some shredded cheese on the floor next to the bed. We went down to the front desk & asked for another room. She gave us a key & the next room was just as bad, the mattress and box springs were in horrible condition (some rooms do not have covers on them, just sheets) the mattress has huge dark stains & box spring was falling apart. We went back to the front desk. The lady informed us that we could only get the key to one more room & there would be no refund (I didnt request a refund? I just wanted a clean room) she then said she checked the first room and didnt see a problem, that it was clean! So I showed her the pictures & asked how she missed the shredded cheese, wrappers and spilled coffee. The 3rd room was ok, it wasnt vacuumed but didnt smell as bad as the other 2 and had mattress covers over the mattress and boxpring. How clean can it be for so cheap, right? Well the next night around 10:30 PM my daughter was getting into bed when she noticed a BUG. It was a cockroach. I trapped it in a cup & called the front desk. The lady LAUGHED! I was speechless. She did apologize for laughing & said "it's been a day of hell" she said no refund, but gave me 3 different rooms to check out & we took the "best" (still gross) of the 3. I let another worker know that the roach was under a cup & she confided that she was glad because the owner never believes them! She said it has been an ongoing issue for a couple months that seems to be on the west end of the building. (If it's on the west end, its everywhere- the place is not that big) I did not sleep well. It was a very nice hotel for a Super 8. I went on a large trip across the nation and this was the only hotel that I did not have to change rooms because something was wrong with it. The room was clean. The pool was decent and well-maintained. There was some debris in the pool. The furnishings in the room were not super awesome, but you don't expect that from a Super 8. The staff is very friendly and had a breakfast to set out as well as coffee 24/7. The location was great - right next to the highway and near all the different things that we were going to see and do in Valpo. The restroom and sheets were clean. The little refrigerator and microwave worked nicely. There was a bench outside for smoking a cigar. The neighborhood was safe enough where I felt comfortable sitting outside. The TV worked fine, though it was not a smart TV. It did have cable and the children watched cartoons. There are no elevators, so we took a room on the bottom floor. They had a display of local things to do in Valpo. The deck of the pool had not been swept or maintained properly. There was vending and ice available. We reserved 3 rooms for our trip on Oct 4-6th. The first room was great, room #2 had full construction going on with a sink on the floor (they moved us), room #3 is the most concerning room I have ever stayed in. My 2 boys came home with bed bugs, they started getting sore throats within hours (I didn't think much of it at first), on the last day one son showed me the sheets that had blood on them below where his knees were (it was not his blood), and the bed had been made with the sheets inside out. That just seemed odd. By the time we arrived home after 2 days there, the boys sore throats had worsened, they were congested and it turned into sinus infections. They had to be prescribed antibiotics twice, and ultimately the dr had to slice open one boys ear drums to drain the fluid from the infection that he ended up with as he just couldn't kick it fast enough on his own. He missed 2 weeks of school. I called the hotel later and was informed that there was nothing they could do as they already rented the room to the next guest and the manager assured me they would bring in an exterminator after that guest checked...
