It was very busy out, Michael's was very busy, there was still plenty of parking. I was hired to refinish a guitar covered in signatures. The signatures are in both oil based paint pen & water based paint pen.
Michael's was the only place I could find both kinds of pens and the proper polyurethane that wouldn't melt the signatures.
There is no supply chain shortage in this store. They had everything I needed with options as well as a LOT of other cool stuff.
This Michael's is heavily stocked and would be overwhelming if it was not so well organized with plenty of signs instructing you exactly what is in each isle.
Even though they were clearly very busy and understaffed (not their fault) as I was slothing around for two $4.00 markers, a manager was in a rush towards the personnel office with a set of keys in her hand and she briskly walked by me, stopped and turned around and asked...
"Are you finding everything okay Sir"? I really appreciated that attention and care for her shopper's even though she was very busy. Then at the check out line, yes there is plexiglass that is crystal clear and clean all through checkout The cashier was really friendly and jovial, signed me up for rewards and saved me 3 bucks.
I didn't know that Michael's had so many hard to find, specialty hobby & professional craftspeople mediums and tools.
I highly recommend the valpo Michael's. Lots of parking, handicapped and curbside pickup. Clean Well stocked Well...
Read moreFunniest experience at the Valparaiso store. My sister and I can spend hours looking at the paint supplies trying to figure out what we want to buy. The first employee you sent to make sure we weren't stealing was obvious but we understood cause you have a couple of people in an isle for a while can be questionable. But then your security guy needs to be a little more stealthy and blend in more. Because his pacing around us and stopping behind a display staring was hilarious. After the second employee was sent to watch us we decided to have a little fun besides laughing at you. We decided to take even longer to buy what we wanted just to see what more you would do. And boy you didn't disappoint. After you noticing us looking at you and laughing, you decided to send another employee to come and ask what we were doing. She was cool and we had the same conversation as we did with the other 2 about deciding on what paint we wanted. Sometimes people like to take their time and decide what they want to buy. But after working in retail for many years and working with store security it wasn't hard to see that you thought we were stealing. No, just buying paint and messing with you a little. For future reference, get your store security some more training because he is not that great. Sorry. But hey, thanks...
Read moreMy son, husband, and I signed up for the pumpkin event today. Store manager Karin seemed to be frustrated that customers were early. We were a total of 3 minutes early. At that time she was setting up tables in the front of the store and gathering supplies. Another customer came up to me asking where the event was. I politely guided her to the classroom so she could talk to Karin. The event was poorly planned for how simple the event was. There was no hot knife to cut through the top of the styrofoam pumpkins. Instead customers were handed non-self retracting knives (blue and black in color) by the store manager Karin and asked to cut the top off themselves. Not only did my husband and myself struggle with using this unsafe box knife but so did another lady, her daughter, and an additional customer. The lady with her daughter said multiple times that the knife was unsafe and the store manager brushed it off saying “I thought we had a hot knife but I guess not”. After being a Michaels store manager myself for 3 years I would never have handed one of those non-company approved knives for this event for guests to use on their pumpkins. As a store leader you are required to uphold the highest safety standards. I would recommend that the district manager address this issue with the store...
