We recently stayed one night at the Residence Inn Washington Capital Navy Yard for the PiNKđ©· concert on Monday August 7th at the Nationals field in DC. This concert was a Christmas gift for my husband as I'd wanted to see PiNK in concert for years. I immediately went out to locate a hotel within walking distance of the venue and typically have always had amazing stays with Marriott and it's affiliated hotel so after seeing this hotel was in walking distance, with valet parking & free Breakfast I immediately reserved a room. After what should have been a 2-hour drive we arrived in DC over 4 hours later and worked our way to the hotel with little over an hour until the concert began. Imagine our surprise upon arrival the chaos surrounding the hotel with nowhere to pull over & NO VALET in sight in order to check in, but instead guests were double parking blocking traffic even further. Upon my arrival at the front desk which was not on the street level when walking in, but an elevator ride to the 2nd floor. There were two people working the front desk and what appeared to be unhappy guests, as I would soon find out why. When I was being checked in the associate advised me there was no parking available as they had run out of spaces. When. I asked how this could happen I was told this hotel does not have their own parking, but instead rent spaces from another company. Nowhere online or under amenities was anything mentioned regarding the possibility of not having a parking space. Nor did it state their was a $55 parking fee per night, however in our case it didn't matter as we were told with no empathy or remorse that we did NOT have a place to park. When I asked where we should park I was matter of factly told I would need find parking elsewhere. And when the Valet came to the front desk he had an attitude and literally ignored any guests requesting for assistance in locating parking. Not being from DC I was at a total loss. As we drove around in the chaotic traffic & closed streets due to the concert and numerous concert goers any parking lots we ran across were sold out due to the concert. Frustrated I went to turn around in a residential parking lot and while working our way around we were lucky enough to meet a very kind gentleman directing traffic who felt sorry for two women just trying to make it to the concert and find somewhere safe we could park overnight, as we still would need to walk back to our hotel (13 min walk) with our luggage in tow in a torrential downpour and high winds that had begun while searching for parking. Once we parked we had to trust that my truck would be there on the morning. Arriving back at the hotel we and our luggage were soaked. We made our way to the room, which was clean & very nice, opened our luggage and had to blow dry some of our clothing and shower so we could try to make ot back to the venue before PiNK took the stage. We were able to make it to the concert in time to see PiNK đ©· however it would have been nice to have had the full experience as we missed seeing Pat Benatar her opening act. Later that night back at the hotel to my surprise I started receiving alrerts from my bank regarding unknown charges from the hotel that the bank was declining as they were not authorized. In total I received 2 messages regarding unauthorized charges on a credit card I had not provided the hotel at check in. The next morning breakfast was nice and loved running into a few fur babies and upon check out I asked how/why the hotel would be processing charges on a credit card I had not given them only to be told it was on file. However I showed it was not saved in the app to which they couldn't explain. Long story short if you have a need to stay in DC near the Nationals field make a reservation at Hampton Inn & Suites Washington DC-Navy Yard next door as they have their own parking area and valets happy to assist...
Read moreI stayed here for two weeks for business. It is located at a convenient location with Metro within short minutes walk as well as a few variety restaurants. This is a new area, so many locations are still under construction and are yet to open. I enjoyed walking along the waterfront. There are stores and restaurants that are sill opening at those locations as well. A Harris Teeter grocery store is two long blocks away.
The kitchen includes soft or slow close hinges on cabinet doors. The rooms have hard floors which are easier to clean. There is a Master Light switch at the entrance door so you can leave one or more lights on in room, touch the Master light switch to turn them all off and when you return, you can turn them back on again with the Mast light switch.
My room was very clean, the hotel is less than a year old. The alarm clock can dim or turn off and includes time on three sides. The TV is a smart TV with access to YouTube, Netflix and other services. The thermostat has an occupancy sensor and does tend to reset at a warm temperature. The shower is a large walk-in. I'm not used to that!
There is plenty of space in the room and might still get crowded if you use the sofa bed.
The laundry room has enough machines for my stay. The machines do take credit card.
There is plenty of shelf space and room in the refrigerator. Three people easily sit at table, might be crowded for four and four chairs are at the table. But there is plenty of room in the kitchen and dining area.
I like that this Residence Inn has a normal couch rather than the armless couches at other locations.
My complaints or suggestions include having hooks or locations to hang coats by the door. Counter space is a little limited.
Be aware that you use one elevator to reach the lobby from the street and other elevators to reach your room. The valet and loading/unloading isn't clearly marked (for me), but it is located next to a construction zone.making it more difficult. The entrance is a small store...
Read moreWe stayed here while attending a conference. The hotel decor is simplistic and pleasing. The valets are superb. Friendly, helpful, impressive. In fact, so was the front desk. I checked in early through the app on my phone and left car with the valet around 8am. (We checked in in real life around 9pm). They gladly held our luggage for us all day. I'm always a fan when all the staff are genuinely courteous and friendly. There is a little 24hr market kiosk next to the front desk, btw. The room has an ice maker, so turn it on as soon as you walk in if you want any ice. It doesn't take too long, maybe half hour. The kitchen area was surprisingly spacious and had several coffee choices. Be aware the light by the sink isn't the overhead light; there's a garbage disposal. Also be aware that if the master light is off, not even the bathroom lights will come on. Very cool feature if you're aware of it! The reading light by the bed is a great design as well. There is a safe in the closet. The bathroom shower was great. Shower gel, shampoo and conditioner in the stall, and they all smell great. There is a black washcloth specifically for make up removal! How efficiently handy is that? They had an extra blanket and feather pillow waiting for us in the room as I requested. The bed was ok, slightly firm. The sofa bed pulls out very easily. Bedding is in the closet. Temperature control is by thermostat and responds quickly and efficiently. There aren't enough blankets to keep it very cold in the room, though. I really liked the location by the stadium. Easy to walk there. The room was better than I expected and a wonderful value for the money. I'd definitely stay again I'd I ever have to go to another baseball game and seminar. Hopefully not, though. The Nationals did win, I hear, but I'd personally rather watch paint dry than go to another...
