I’m not going to go into a long introduction—let’s get straight to the point. This review is about the steak they use in burritos, steak nachos, or tacos. Because let’s be honest: everything can be very good and tasty, but if the meat is cheap, full of gristle, fatty, unpleasant, made from leftovers or scraps of taco meat, then—at least for me—it completely ruins my meal, kills my mood, and no salsa or other topping can make up for it. The meat is, unfortunately, the essential part of the entire dish if you’re eating something with steak.
I’ve lived in Chicago for 25 years and have tried many Mexican restaurants. I used to have a few favorites, but most of them are now gone. Honestly, for a long time I’ve been struggling whenever I want to buy a steak burrito—it’s always a gamble, and it’s almost never truly great. Especially now, with prices going up across the board, every restaurant is looking for ways to save money—usually by cutting quality or portion sizes (or both).
The steak at this restaurant is outstanding. I’m very glad I stopped here on my way home from work—you have a new regular customer. Usually, when I try a new Mexican place, I first order a veggie burrito so I don’t risk ruining my meal with bad meat. After that veggie burrito, I know whether I should come back and try something with meat. I know it sounds strange, but it works every time—if the veggie burrito is low quality, the meat burrito (especially with steak) will be even worse.
Here, the vegetarian burrito was delicious, and so was the steak burrito. I highly recommend this place. There are very few like it. Owner, please don’t change the quality of the meat you use or the way you prepare it. The steak is nicely cut—no huge thick chunks—has a slight grilled smokiness, and is simply good: no weird textures, no unpleasant pieces. It tastes great, is well-seasoned, and there’s really nothing to complain about. I’m very happy I found this place and I recommend it...
Read moreBe careful with your card info here!!! Their Apple machine kept saying my card was declined. I asked if I could Zelle one of the workers they said no but I could give them my card number. This was a red flag. I then called my bank and asked why my card wasn’t going through and they said there wasn’t an issue on my end. I had Chase on speaker phone and told them the problem wasn’t on my end. That’s when the workers started changing their tune. They admitted the problem was with the machine (at first they made it seem like the problem was with my card) and then they asked for my debit card number AGAIN. I said no I’m not giving you my card number for a $13 bill. Then all of a sudden the lady behind the register said I could Zelle her. Very weird and suspicious behavior. Looks like they wanted my card info to steal. I’ll be reporting to better...
