My son was shopping out of town when he discovered a boutique called Wood and Thread. He found a shirt he thought I would like so he purchased it and gave it to me for my birthday. It was too small so I called to see if I could return it and get his money back. The clerk who identified herself as a manager, told me the only way to receive a refund was to return the item in person within seven days. I explained that I live two hours away and I requested that I be able to mail the shirt back and receive a refund issued to my son's credit card. The clerk told me I had to return the item in person within seven days for a refund or after seven days she could only issue a store credit. I explained that I live two hours away and asked asked if she could make an exception and extend the time by a few days to allow time to travel to Winston Salem. She said "no, I can not, that's our company policy". I then asked for the owner who was not presently available. The manager said the owner would be in the following day. I asked her if she could leave a message for the owner to call me the following day and she said yes.
At 4:00 PM the following day, she had not returned my call so I called the store again. This time I was abbe to speak with the owner. I explained the situation and asked for her to extend the time by a few days to allow time to get there. She said, "no I am a small business and this is my policy". I asked her to please make an exception of a few days and she again said "no".
So I got in my car and drove 114 miles to the store and spoke with the owner in person. She asked to see the receipt. I didn't have a receipt because our son was not provided with a receipt, the transaction was provided by Square. The owner asked if I could call our son and see if he had received a receipt via email and he had not received a receipt. So without a receipt, after driving 114 miles she did not allow me to receive a refund and I was forced to exchange the shirt for a larger size. This was one of the most inexcusable customer service experiences I have every had. My husband and I have a small business and as a business owner I can't imagine treating customers this way. Obviously, I will...
Read moreIt’s taken me a couple days to write this because honestly I’m saddened that this exchange even happened. I have been in this store at least 5 times and bought from them in a couple of those visits. My last visit I bought an adorable tule strapless top excited to wear it to the Nashville Taylor Swift concert. I tried it on and really thought it fit great, but when trying on my whole outfit a few week ago I realized that my bust was not secure in the top. I definitely would not have been able to dance, jump, anything at the concert without having an issue. Sadly, my mom broke her ankle in three places leaving her completely wheelchair bound to the point where she needs a 24/7 caregiver, which has been me. I have barely been out of the house except for my mom’s surgery and picking up her medicine and grocery orders in over a month, I’m even having to work from home. When walking in this week when I had 30mins to go pick up food from Di Lisio’s I was met two steps in the door with an empty boutique and the owner telling me about the 14 day return policy which had never been communicated, especially because they don’t provide paper receipts. I explained all of what I just wrote above to the store owner almost teary eyed asking if I could at least exchange the brand new with tags shirt that had only been tried on twice for other store merchandise. I was very coldly and bluntly told no, then afterwards she asked me which concert I was going to again as if she was trying to connect with me after not even saying sorry for my situation with my mom. I am all for small businesses having return policies and operating in a way that allows them to be successful, but when you are just plain inhumane to someone who still wants merchandise and never asked for actual cash back, and when the item being exchanged is still 100% in season and unworn, and you take absolutely none of their situation into account and don’t even let them get in the door to the counter before turning them away, it’s just cold. I love Di Lisio’s next door and go there often, but sadly I won’t be back to this boutique because it is very obvious that they could care less about...
