When having my first booking confirmed by SPG, when checking in, I was redirected to the opposite Montevideo Sheraton Hotel. Not clear for me what reason and an unexpected surprise. But Montevideo Sheraton was great with 100% staff. After 2 nights I booked again for Aloft and was welcomed with my child in a great way (thanks Marcelo reception!). The hotel is very stylish, everywhere music, recently built and nice rooms. Some things however went 'wrong' with design. Control for airconditioning not to be found, I had to call the reception. It is hidden in a dead corner (room 1109) behind the 2nd bed. Swimming pool on the 15th floor; there should be toilets around but the door to the meeting rooms where the toilets are located we found it locked twice. So no toilet visits possible while swimming. No soap dispenser in the swimming pool shower room. The 3rd night the fire alarm went of at 04.00 am. Speakers notified us to stand by. After 2 minutes the alarm was cancelled but despite waking up it gave a good feeling there is a modern adequate fire alarm system. Food & Beverages for surprisingly low prices and perfect quality. Staff like Cecilia in the restaurant and her male colleague: Chapeau!
One point of criticism which really needs improvement. The security/luggage staff at the lobby with the ear-sets in; they are mainly busy with themselves and hanging around. When checking out as well not one helping hand from the man. When reception called a taxi for us. which he heard, he even flipped away and I saw him coming back from a door, exactly when we stepped in the taxi with our luggage (Sun13MAY 09.00 am). When the moment came to give a hand he deliberately dived under. He should be trained by Montevideo Sheraton staff at the entrance. They do know how to help a customer upon arrival...

Dear Mr. Walter,
When I made my reservation, I specifically asked for a room on a high floor and away from the elevator. We (my husband and I) asked for this at check-in twice, and nevertheless, the attendant purposely (because I complained that there was no one to meet us at the entrance - with the car) gave us room 504, right in front of the elevator. So, I spent every night without sleep due to the LOUD and annoying noise of the elevator "PIN", "PIN" and the street noise, also very loud.
The hotel has rooms from the 3rd floor up to the 14th... that is, the 5th is a very low floor! And quite noisy!
If all this was not enough, the reception service is terrible. One day I complained that at 4:00 pm the room had not yet been cleaned and the attendant simply said that "the Hotel is full". If you don't have enough staff to clean the rooms, it's not the guests' problem.
Thus, the service is poor, the room is noisy (you can hear it until the elevators open and close) and we were very badly treated / served. They don't even say "good morning" when you pass the reception.
In short, you were supposed to do the guest's request and mine weren't. They couldn't even clean the room.
This was the worst stay of my...
Read moreGreat location in Punta Carretas. Safe area with a clean mall across the street with a money exchange and plenty of atm’s and a great grocery market “Disco” next door which was perfect for stocking up on water, snacks and wine. There are several good restaurants as well within walking distance and the ramblas is just down the street so you can get out for a walk or run or head to the beach. Although about a 15 minute cab/ Uber from the old town, this was fine as we were able to take in some museums, port market and have coffee to experience the area but then head back to the comfortable, clean and safer feeling Punta Carretas area. Ask for a higher level room if available and you will have a nice view of the ocean. Breakfast was included due to my husband’s bonvoy status which was ok- highlight being the fresh squeezed orange juice machine. The rest of the offerings were hit or miss and the quality definitely depended on how busy they were. Our first day had a nice variety of pastries and sandwiches in addition to eggs and such but then a big tour group came through and it became wonder bread and no pastries. Overall a...
