We spent two nights at the Vivaldi after arriving on an early morning flight from Brazil. We had contacted them in advance to ask about an early check-in and were told it should be okay. When we arrived around 10.30am we were told it would be about an hour which was quite acceptable so we sat in the café/restaurant just off reception to wait. And wait. And wait. About 1.00pm the staff member we had spoken to, and who could see us for the entire time we were waiting, went off to get some lunch. An hour later he came back from lunch. Around 2.30pm we again asked about checking in and were told it would be another hour. When I then asked if that hour would be the same as the hour which started at 10.30 and was still going [!!!!], suddenly rooms were found for us.||||Unfortunately, we had booked a double room, only to find that they had put us in a twin. Back downstairs to complain. This time they moved us straight away and from there we had no real problems with the hotel at all. The pool area on the roof was very nice and the hotel is clean and comfortable in the rooms and the restaurant which serves a good breakfast selection. Some of the staff were very helpful, others not so, although there was a little trouble with language, but I blame us for that rather than the hotel – we speak no Spanish at all.||||There were a number of very good restaurants within easy walking distance, and the hotel was easy enough to get to by taxi from the main part of the city. All in all I would recommend the Vivaldi as a reasonable option for an inexpensive stay but keep onto them about checking in or you will just be...

Read moreI stayed 5 days at the Vivaldi Hotel in Montevideo, Uruguay and definitely recommend this hotel. ||a 2 minute walk from Punta Carretas Shopping Centre and a 15 minute walk to La Rambla. ||The room was terrific! Double bed, very comfortable, bedding clean and crisp. The room had a microwave, sink, crockery and cutlery for those nights where dinner in the room is needed. Bathroom was a good size, very clean and bright with a good strong shower and plenty of towels. ||The room faced onto Jose Ellauri with an opening window and street noise was minimal. Opening the curtains during the day allowed plenty of light and when closed at night provided a wonderful sleeping environment.||Close by are several restaurants, cafes and a convenience store for those last minute goodies or much needed bottle of water for those hot summer days. ||The only downside was the television not picking up all channels....||Front desk staff were fabulous. My Spanish is limited and they took the time to entertain this as well as speaking English. I didn't eat at the hotel restaurant however it seemed very popular and their cortados (short white coffee) were delicious. ||Great price and overall value.....|Am returning to Uruguay and will definitely...
