We contacted the property directly through WhatsApp to help them avoid paying the big booking site commission. The person we spoke to told us to come by the next day since many guests were checking out. We even confirmed and asked if we should just book online, but they assured us it wouldn’t be a problem to come in person.
When we arrived, a different staff member at reception was extremely rude and dismissive. Instead of helping us, she blamed us for not booking through the website and even started blaming the girl we had spoken to on WhatsApp — saying she was new and from Cuba, and that “Cubans speak a different language than Uruguayans.” That comment was hilariously wrong and showed how little she actually knew about the world.
All they needed to do was apologize and help us find a solution, but instead they chose to blame the customer when they were clearly in the wrong. The manager sitting nearby looked visibly embarrassed by her behavior. Easily the rudest receptionist we’ve come across. Definitely not how a place in hospitality should treat guests..
Edit after owners reply: There was absolutely no shouting from our end - only frustration at your complete inability to take any responsibility. Your own staff member explicitly told us we could arrive the next day and that it wouldn’t be a problem. We were actually trying to save you the booking commission, not avoid paying it ourselves. In fact, the booking site was €20 cheaper than your own website. Clearly, we should have just booked through the site - it would have been cheaper for us and avoided this mess caused by your staff’s poor communication. So for example, they stated at the time of booking they accept card payment costing me an agreed average of $9.50 per night (they later tell me they don’t accept card payment). Later (to cut a long story short) they overcharged me $13.30 per night - 45% price increase on the agreed booking.com listed price. Despite a call from booking.com customer services towards the Hostel, the Hostel still refused to give a partial refund on the overpayment. The staff just don’t care.
Location is poor - most other Hostels are located in a much better area, as this Hostel is far away from the bus station and the main attractions. A homeless man harassed me at a nearby ATM cash machine.
Other much nicer Montevideo Hostels (for a cheaper overall price) provide a free breakfast. When a simple Mcdonalds meal here will cost you roughly €/$8 (Uruguay is very expensive) choosing to stay at another Hostel will save...

Tentamos informar que estava muito barulho se teria outro quarto, e não tinha. Decidimos então cancelar nossa reservar e procurar outro lugar, ja que estamos de ferias e procurando um local para descansar, nos foi informado que seria cobrado somente o dia que ficamos. Achamos outro local para ficar, e decidimos cancelar, na hora do cancelamento a mesma pessoa que informou que seria descontado somente o dia que ficamos, decidiu descontar dois dias, sendo que havia passado outra informação, tentamos dialogar, mas não adiantou. Além de que, ele foi EXTREMAMENTE estupido e grosseiro, nunca vi um atendimento tão ruim, quanto o atendimento desta pessoa. Resumindo foi com toda a certeza o pior lugar que já estivemos, visto que viajamos muito e ficamos em muitos lugares. Não indico a ninguém, e com toda a certeza não voltaria NUNCA a este lugar.
E para finalizar, além de tudo, eles são mentirosos, comentando depois desse comentário aqui que ouve insulto, o insulto veio da parte deles, do recepcionista deles, muito mal educado por sinal, mas pelo que entendi, é normal mentirem assim como outras pessoas ja disseram aqui, já é algo de costume. Además, fue EXTREMADAMENTE estúpido y grosero, nunca había visto un servicio tan malo como el de esta persona.
