This a public square (plaza) built to honor Bruno Mauricio Zabala who founded the city of Montevideo back in 1700s when he was a Viceroy representing the Spanish crown

The Plaza itself was not established until 1890!when the equestrian statue was installed. But it was not until 1931 when the Plaza was officially inaugurated.

La Plaza Zabala, ubicada en Ciudad Vieja, es un espacio verde encantador que combina historia, arte y un ambiente peculiar. Su belleza radica en sus esculturas bien conservadas, la abundante vegetación y los numerosos bancos que invitan a descansar y disfrutar del entorno.
