As I arrived in Viet Nam, the Pacific Star Hotel (32 Cua Nam Str, Hoan Kiem Dist) was only one of six Hotels I used in three weeks. It was the most expensive but also the best hotel in Viet Nam (the other hotels was also good).||||The staff in the Hotel can speak English good and they are very nice. The hold the door open for you if you enter or leave the hotel and they try to help you if you want book a trip, train or bus. ||||The rooms are big with own toilet and good showers. As I checked-in someone knocked on the door and there were fruits for free. The rooms have: AC, TV with much canals (even HBO and an other English pay-tv-canal), full fridge, security safe, hairdryer, box for dirty clothes, telephone, information about rules (no guests in the room and so on) and data (how does work the telephone, when is breakfast and so on). ||||In the hotel you can have Breakfast. It is simple but included in the room-price. My room was 15 US-Dollar for one night. There were three computers with free internet and they make photo copies for you (Pass, Visa and so on). ||||Of course, there are better locations for a hotel (in the old town, for an example), but it is just a few minutes away from the train main station and to go to the Hoan Kiem Lake you need not long for a walk. A supermarket and restaurants are close to the hotel. There was a little bit street-noise but not much. I had no problems with sleeping. ||||The room was clean and every day they cleaned it good. ||||I have booked the VIP Ha Long Bay tour with one night and two days (they told me about a cheaper tour, but I wanted the good tour). It was a little expensive (79 US-Dollar), but it included everything (but not the drinks on the boat). We paid more than other tourists, but the most told us: “The food was bad”. In our tour (we was just three tourists on a very very big ship with nice crew, staff and guide) the food was perfect and there was almost too much food. And: I do not eat seafood or fish. I told them and only for me they have made other food! You can drink everything you want. The ship is huge and very clean. There was even a flat-screen-tv for entertainment in the night (we watched James Bond). The room on the boat was amazing. Better than in the hotel! Fridge, sweets and such stuff and the best toilet/shower I had ever in holydays (see photos). Just see the photos of the boat. And we were just three tourists! There was more crew than tourists. ||||Also for the private trip to the Chua But Thap about one hour and 30 minutes away from Hanoi, the hotel booked for me a taxi-driver. He was very young and could not speak English, but he was very nice and helpful. He paid every thing. To enter the temple, drink and snack on the temple and eat much in a local restaurant. He paid all. No cheatings. I think he was first time on this temple (he watched it also). This was a very nice trip. ||||And even for the train soft sleeper ticket I booked on the hotel. Of course, if you book in the hotel, it is a little bit more expensive than in the train station, but you do not need go there and there and it is much easier. I get what I wanted: A cabin with AC and four people on the train (not covered windows) with soft sleeper. ||||I can tell nothing bad about this hotel. If you go there, you should have no problems and every thing should be good. ||||You can see photos, videos and information here:||http://www.syzygy.50g.com/vietnam_2007/html/vietnam_photos.htm||||If you want see our big and nice boat (we were just three tourists!) and the rooms, see the video (the Ha Long Bay tour was booked by the Pacific Star Hotel):||http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJVRTurATFc||||I would go again to this hotel, if I should go one day...

It is located in an affluent neighborhood with many restraunts, coffee shops and bars within a short walk away. There are two Buddhist temples overlooking the lake a very short walk away. Along with the hop on and hop off bus stop. From the Hotels roof top Summit bar you can get a spectacular view of the lakes and city along with the yellow river in the distance which runs thru the city. There are heaters and couches on the summit bar for those chilly nights. Head waiter Gnut and his staff are at the ready with blankets to warm couples. It is a highly recommended night cap place.||Standard rooms are very well laid out and daily room service is excellent with coffee and tea available. ||The serviced apartments are the best deal and excellently managed by MS.Tran Thi Hue, the rooms are apartments with large full kitchen with all the cooking utensils needed, a large refrigerator, washer/dryer ,king size bed in one room and couch and breakfast bar in the other, and a TV in each room. The bathroom is big and the bathtub is huge.||Closets are big and there are storage closets through out the apartment.||Staying here is like you are living at home but with room service!||The lobby has a very competent staff and the bell hop Mr. Dinh along with Mr Da and their coworkers will go out of there way to help you in any endeavour. The lobby also has Airline and tour offices along with a very fairly priced gift shop that met all my shopping needs.||The Food;||The breakfast buffet on the first floor is to die for, if You name it, they have it, and if they don’t just ask.||Being in the serviced apartments I had access to the exclusive 17th floor. Breakfast there is a small buffet, its private and to order so you can eat at your leisure, with a chief awaiting your order and a great view of the lakes and city in front of you, with personnel service from there excellent staff who include Ms. Trang, Tham, Huy, Tra, Tuan, Judy, Jen, and Thinh all gave me great service. With a big thank you to Quynh Trang who greeted me every morning like family and made me a great cappuccino to wake me up. I also recommend the Vietnam Ice coffee for those slow to wake mornings.||I forgot to mention the 17floor also offers a happy hour from 0530pm to 0730pm with freeflowing wine, Liquor and beer along with great finger food, fruits and deserts. || After staying in many hotels in Hanoi , The Pan Pacific is in my opinion, by far the best Hotel and value for money in Hanoi|| Regards, Steve Lundy...
Read moreI'd read the reviews on Trip Advisor about the Pacific Star and thought I was onto a winner when I booked it for three nights in September 2009. How wrong was I!||||We were really disappointed. The staff were friendly but a little pushy about taking tours with them. I popped out to grab some chocolate for the kids and the people on the desk seemed put out that I hadn't raided the mini bar. When I explained there was no choclate in there they seemed to think it was ok then.||||The hotel seemed to be in the heart of Hanoi’s florist, alcoholic spirit and tyre district. We were five floors up from the street and approaching midnight the horns were still honking.... and kept honking waking me up at 4.45 am.Not too good when booking the hotel I asked for a quiet room.||||Now onto the room. The décor was an interesting blend: pine furniture from 1982 and soft furnishings from the same era, a dodgy bathroom renovation from 1994 and a computer with a pink monitor screen and slow as hell internet connection from 1997. The door on the balcony couldn’t be locked either. ||||We were still in a junk food fix (a week eating just Vietnamese food will mean the odd Western binge) so we ordered 'garlic french fries' from room service.' Sounded good I thought but gee was I wrong. I could've done better with a packet of frozen chips (which is what I think they were).||||I’d tried to save a few bucks and was paying the price. I was up until almost midnight trying to find someone else to stay. I ended up finding the Asia Palace Hanoi 1 Hotel in the middle of the Old Quarter (better location), it seems to have been renovated this year and is in fantastic condition and would you believe it, for half the price of Pacific Star. Honestly, why...
