Food is a subjective thing. While there are technical aspects to certain dishes, how they are enjoyed or appreciated can vary wildly from customer to customer. Banh mi is not a food with a limited set of technical requirements. Crusty french bread? Definitely. Various meats, pickled veggies, sauces & chilis? Usually, but not always. At the end of the day people might fight about which banh mi spot is the best in Hanoi, but your time would be better spent trying out several and discovering what you enjoy yourself.
I enjoyed this. A lot.
Small mom & pop shop. AC & fans on the inside. Cooking on the outside. A relatively simple menu of soups and banh mi options, along with beverages. Cash payments only (I think). No English spoken I was aware of, but the owner/operators convey a lot with a smile and a nod of the head.
I opted for the roasted chicken banh mi, a change from my usual pork go-to choice, and well rewarded. Pair that with a delicious rice noodle bowl and you're in heaven. Drinks included various juices as well as coffees. The egg coffee is seriously delicious and very traditional. The homemade lemonade is refreshing - a good balance of sweet, citrusy-tang, and cold.
It wasn't the banh mi I am used to but it was excellent and I would gladly eat here again and bring friends. ...

Even if there was a remote possibility that any other visitor had stolen it, the behaviour of the young girl at the front made it extremely evident that she had stolen it. DO NOT...
