PSA: YOU DO NOT NEED TO PAY ANYTHING TO ENTER. IT IS A FREE ATTRACTION! SAY NO IF ASKED TO PAY. READ UP OTHER 1 STAR REVIEWS FOR REASONS.
If I could, I would have given this many negative stars instead.
TLDR, ok to come by when trains are not expected to arrive but once they are, DO NOT COME. THE SHOPS THERE ARE SCAMMERS! Shop people touting, being greedy and saying blatant lies to scam tourist money, policing who can and cannot come in when its supposed to be a free attraction! Easily 100% more ex than stores not along the tracks. Nothing special as well. Instead, i feel it is much nicer to watch from below. I WILL NOT COME AGAIN AND WILL TELL MY LOVED ONES NOT TO AS WELL. Its not about the marked up prices but is the blatant lies and the pushy upsell behavior that I heavily dislike. Not worth at all!! -1000000/5
Detailed experience: Entered with no issues on a whim since i was nearby and walked along the tracks during the period where no trains were scheduled to come by anytime soon. Left the tracks and came back again as i was nearby as i realized the train will be arriving in 5mins. However, as I was about to enter the same way I did before, I got stopped by a lady. Telling me that to enter, I have to purchase a coffee orsomething before im allowed to enter. But wasn't i able to enter with no issues earlier??? Was so perplexed and asked is it really a must to buy a coffee just to enter as per earlier?? and then she said, yes yes need to buy before can enter.. so I indeed thought perhaps that timing (nearing dinner time) had such a rule.
How wrong was I when I went to looked up reviews after that and all low ratings mentioned this. Regretted not looking it up and thought hey why not go since im nearby sigh.
So, unfortunately i ended up buying something, and then waited an additional 20mins despite them constantly telling me it's coming its coming..
The train eventually did come by but wasn't at all impressive. The train was a normal train, and the sides were so crowded with people squeezing and phones raised up because the scammers were greedy and lured unsuspecting tourists in knowing that there isn't much space left for people to stand or sit at their tables and catch a view of the...

Train Street in Hanoi, nestled in the heart of the city, offers one of the most thrilling and unique cultural experiences in Vietnam. Located in the Old Quarter, this narrow street is famous for its train track that runs right through a residential neighborhood, allowing visitors to witness the spectacle of a train passing just a few feet away from homes and local businesses.
The excitement peaks as the train approaches. Tourists line up along the tracks, eagerly awaiting the rumbling sounds of the train’s arrival. With the street barely wider than the train itself, locals and tourists alike step back, experiencing the thrill as the massive train squeezes by, creating an unforgettable moment. The local residents have adapted their daily lives around the train schedule, adding an authentic touch to the atmosphere.
Along the street, charming cafes offer seating just inches from the tracks, allowing visitors to enjoy a coffee or local delicacy while anticipating the train. Train Street is not just a tourist attraction but a vivid portrayal of Hanoi’s vibrant spirit, blending the old with the new and showcasing the adaptability and resilience of its people. For anyone visiting Hanoi, this experience is an...
Read moreA must see if you are in Hanoi as this street is one of a kind! Cafe shops setup right next to the train tracks for a maybe 500m section of the Trainline. The coffee shops are bright and colourful with lanterns, lights, paintings and more to make the whole street feel magical. Train comes through every 4-5 hours so it not like you can't enjoy a peaceful coffee here, but if you do want to see the train go by then be sure to check times... I have seen the train go through as early as 11am but also as late as 11:45am so can be some delays. But nothing a few coffees or beers to help pass the time while you wait. When no trains are coming through you can freely walk on the tracks and everyone is super friendly and welcoming you into their cafe. I did not actually stop here for a drink but even though this clearly a tourist hot spot the prices did seem fairly reasonable where I did look. Loads of cats and dogs in the cafes all the way down the street so for animal lovers this is another bonus...
