I would give this hotel 3.5 stars.
Reception and door staff were very polite, friendly, and accommodating.
I was giving a 5th floor room right on the other side of the elevator. Which man it could be quite loud at times. Housekeeping also like to yell at each other in the hallways and run the vacuum before 8:00am in the morning. Otherwise the room was off the main road and I definitely appreciated the quietness although the windows were locked I never wanted or needed to open.
The room is bright with the large window with light although in shades of purple which is definitely not my favorite color. The rooms can be dark due at night duee to lighting controls. I found the room overall to be stuffy and warm which can make it uncomfortable to stay in at times. Although there is a temperature control in your room you are really not in control because I had mine set at 22 (which is the lowest it will go) and set to cool - it never cooled off it was warm and stuffy the entirety of my stay.
The room includes a room safe, hangers, extra pillows and USED slippers. There is a mini bar and snacks for purchases which are extremely overpriced. At a hotel spa down the road they were charging 40 whereas here it's 85 and 65 Dong. There are waters were also 20 dong where is here for the same water it's 85 each. Room includes two (but different higher quality for purchase) waters along with a couple flavors of tea and instant coffee with kettle.
The bed is fine for night or two as you can feel the coils in certain positions. There is a single pillow for each side. More pillows are located in the closet but I'm hesitant to use those pillows as you never know when those cases have been changed. They should be placed on the bed as most hotels have two pillows on each side. It's obvious they didn't want to change the cases. The bed had a squeaking to as well.
The bathroom are extremely small and fits only one person but had ample amenities and a standing shower. The issue with the shower is that it has an overhead rain shower in desperate need of cleaning and would drop ice cold water on you as you took a shower and it came from dark grimy black mold area. I tried to wipe it down so it would stop dripping on me and that didn't make things any better as it continued to do so and I was too short to put any real effort into removing the blackness.
The restaurant food was a bit of a mixed bag. Their drinks were good although not strong for the amount of liquor that supposed to be in them. I should not be able to feel like I could drive a car after drinking one of them. Sea bass was excellent I ordered it twice. Although the sides were not ever what was on the menu but I don't complain as they were still good. The club sandwich came with mayo although it wasn't listed in the menu. Although where things really fell off the rails was the beef burger was literally the single most disgusting thing I've ever had in a long time. There's no way that that is beef that was so gross I couldn't finish more than half of it I took about three by to the beef and I couldn't finish.
For breakfast there is a number of options and someone making made to order eggs. I would have tea and toast each morning but everyone seemed to enjoy the breakfast.
Twice I had to request the breakfast staff not loudly announce my room number, as I solo female traveler, basically across the room. I very politely tried to explain for my safety I needed her to stop yelling my number. Although I politely requested her to stop doing it she did it again the next morning. Luckily I was checking out but it's unnecessary and not taking female solo traveling safety under consideration because you never know who's listening.

I had a truly pleasant stay at Mercure Hanoi La Gare, and it quickly became one of my favorite hotels in Hanoi. From the moment I checked in, I felt welcomed—the staff were warm, attentive, and always ready to assist with a smile. Their English was excellent, and they made sure I had everything I needed, whether it was recommendations, arranging transportation, or answering questions about the city.
Room: As an Accor Gold Member, I was upgraded to a more spacious room, which was a wonderful surprise. The room was modern, spotless, and very comfortable, with all the amenities I needed for a relaxing stay: a cozy bed, strong air-conditioning, a clean bathroom with hot shower and quality toiletries, plus slippers, complimentary water, and a well-stocked minibar. On top of that, I was greeted with welcome goodies and fresh flowers—a thoughtful touch that made me feel extra special. When I decided to extend my stay for another night, they kindly let me keep the same upgraded room, which made my experience even more seamless.
Location: The hotel’s location is one of its biggest strengths. It’s right by the Hanoi Train Station (perfect for catching trains to Sapa or other destinations) and only a short walk or quick Grab ride to the Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem Lake, and many of Hanoi’s attractions. At the same time, it’s tucked in a quieter spot, so you can rest peacefully away from the busiest streets.
Service Beyond the Stay: One of the things I appreciated most was that the hotel allowed me to leave my luggage safely stored for three nights while I traveled to Sapa. This was incredibly convenient and made my trip much lighter and easier.
Overall Experience: What I loved most about Mercure Hanoi La Gare was the combination of convenience, comfort, and excellent service. Whether you’re staying for business, leisure, or as a stopover before heading to Sapa by train, this hotel is a fantastic choice.
🙏 Special thanks to the staff and to Manager Ngoc Nguyen for the warm welcome and for accommodating all my requests so kindly. You truly made my stay memorable.
💡 Suggestion: It would be even better if the televisions were upgraded to Smart TVs, so guests could easily play YouTube or Spotify, or connect their own devices for a more personalized entertainment experience.
✨ Highly recommended if you want modern comfort, Accor benefits, and thoughtful service right in the...
Read moreThe Mercure Hotel in Hanoi is by no means the best option for a few days in the city. Although the attention given by its workers is excellent, and its breakfast service of great quality, the fundamental service that must provide any hotel, the rooms, leaves much to be desired. We have spent two non-consecutive days staying in this hotel within a trip organized by Vietnam and our experience has not been good at all. The first night we were offered a standard room in which the main problem was too small a bathroom and too limited space for suitcases. There was only room for one, and the other had to be on the floor cutting an already narrow space. But the fundamental and serious problem occurred on the second night we spent in it. It was a half-room with significant damage: A single bedside table on one side. Just a night lamp. On the side where the bedside table was, if you wanted to charge any electrical appliance, you had to disconnect the night lamp. On the other side of the head of the bed, not only is there no bedside table or lamp, but there is not even a socket to charge a piece of equipment. The floor of the bathroom was the one of the shower, this one did not have any screen, reason why when showering you leave the bathroom flooded. The only outlet in the bathroom, damaged. The faucet in the washbasin leaked. The drain of the "shower", in bad condition. Spalling in the walls. Halogen hanging from the ceiling. And to finish off, when we complain, we are told that there is no other room, that there are no complaint sheets. They try to compensate us with two free drinks, or a lunch... But also letting us know that no client has complained before, and that all standard rooms are the same... One lie after another, with an incorruptible smile on the face of any of the workers or hotel managers. We will complain to the tour operator and we will do everything we can to assert our rights as consumers and prevent more people from having to suffer this...
